I wanted to adopt a dog but apparently they decided that every dog I wanted to look at couldn t be in an apartment. The crazy thing is, we have every type of dog here with a huge dog park and we would have loved the dog and he would have been treated like a king. But I guess they would rather keep them in cages. Very sad, they deserve better.

Pet Pal Animal Shelter is a wonderful place. We appreciate all they do for our community, and for animals that need a home. Back in January 2016, I adopted a cat from the shelter - not long after a much beloved pet had passed away. A little over a year later, my elderly neighbor adopted a dog (a rambunctious little Rat Terrier) - not long after her beloved pet had passed away. Their impact on our lives, and that of our respective families, has been considerable. In fact, I walk my neighbor's dog once or twice a week, since it needs a lot of exercise, and even bring it over to my parent's house for dinner, on occasion. We find it amusing how this dog now has multiple families, and how she brings so much joy to our lives.

I love Pet Pal and all they do for their animals and community. My only negative comment is that I wished they had better hours for those of us that work during the day. I know they have Saturdays but maybe even one evening a week for adoptions would be fantastic. We are hoping to get one of their little guys this week if he doesn t get adopted before Saturday.

My little dog 'Princess' and I had our first obedience class at Pet Pals last evening. Pat,
our Trainer, and her lovely Assistants were wonderful!!
The first of six sessions went
well and now we're practicing the 'Sit', 'Look at me', and 'walking' instructions we learned. I'm really looking forward to the next time!

Arrogant owner and felt discriminated against because we didn't own our own home with a fenced yard. Dog bit me while we were in the play area. We had a terrible experience and would never recommend anyone going here

I went in to get help and/or advice about how to get my foster dog advertised or adopted out. Instead I got yelled at and accused of trying to dump her on them. They said she wasn't their problem and I should take her back to the shelter that I got her from. I told them this would be certain death for her and they said that it was not their problem. They were not compassionate or informative about where I could go to get help. Instead, I felt looked down upon for trying to keep this perfectly good dog alive. This charity will NEVER receive a donation from me. Horrible people.

Incredible place! Absolutely care about their animals. They do a wonderful job of finding the right companion for the right animal. Super impressed! We adopted from them recently, and just can't say enough good things. We came in to adopt a dog. They required a meet and greet with our existing dogs. We did so and discovered that my old lady did not do so well with said little dog. We recognized it quickly and the pup stayed with them. However, my family ended up in their cat room, and my 4 year old and a kitty fell in love. We happily took her home. They were amazing. They are about education and care. So impressed!

Very disappointing. I drove a little over 2 hours to get here. I was very interested in a 6 month old puppy, then I had called the day before I went & was told someone else had been interested & I asked if they have filled out any adoption papers or made any leap to show they were very interested or cared. They told me no. Then I was also told they don't do any holds, so I drove & took off work to hopefully take this sweetie to a forever home, & I get there & tell them which dog I am there to see, & they tell me they are holding for someone else to come see, & I asked "I thought you didn't do holds?" They told me we don't unless you're coming from a far distance. Which this I was NEVER told, & I said if that's the case, I could have done the same, considering I drove WAY farther than these other people. & they already have 3 other huge dogs. Now as they told me, she is very skiddish & needs all the attention she can get, I don't have any animals of my own, & I would have given her the attention & love she needs. Then the other thing that ticked me off was I never got a chance to see her, only behind the cage in the sheltered room. And not to mention, when the other people brought the other 3 dogs in for a meet & greet, she was very scared, & I think the thing that made me heartbroken the most was, even though they told me she was skiddish of people, she tried to come to me & one of the lady workers there was very snobby, honestly I think she adopted the dog out just to piss me off, & I wanted to prove her wrong with the whole thing. But as for the whole thing, I'm still very heartbroken & this happened Friday June 30th. & also to end this, they also told me she had been adopted out & brought back 2 times already, now wouldn't you think they would be a little more careful & actually look into who they are adopting this sweet baby out to? I had my money in hand, my legal papers of my land, & was prepared to take this beautiful girl to a loving home. Still very upset & disappointed. I also asked if she was to get brought back by any means, can I get a call? The lady snapped at me & said "no, we don't do things like that! Now that also pisses me off, cause they are supposed to be about the animals, if an animal doesn't like someone, why would you let them adopt them? Animals have very good instincts. They can sense the good & bad in people. But if I were her, I would have done a meet & greet with who ever was interested & seen who the dog liked the most. This is what this place is about right? The animals?

We haven't found a dog from here that we want yet but they take in all sorts of breeds here. I've seen great danes, pomeranians, dobermans, and poodles. The diversity must exist because most people go to other shelters first. The other shelters in the area seem to carry only pit bull type mixes so this place is definitely worth checking out. They keep the kennels very clean, take the dogs out to the run 2-3 times a day, and take good care of them. The staff has been friendly and funny and I feel like the dogs are in good hands here.

When pet pal called with the dog already safely in hand .. whew .. A new collar for her, and a tremendous relief for our whole family. Big thanks!!

This shelter is too small for the number of animals they house. Our "visit" was on the filthy floor of the laundry room. They have litters of puppies in one cage, and they have no idea who is whom! When my child pet one through the kennel door, a teenager snapped rudely. The volunteer told us to see the "ladies at the front desk", but she was busy arguing with someone else about why they couldn't adopt a pet if they rent a home!
There are four parking spots. Two unpleasant "workers" and a ton of clueless volunteers. No one knew which dogs had been walked and which had not. I have no idea how they keep track of which animals are eating, healthy, sleeping well, etc. Stick with the Humane Society; they run a great organIzation.

One of the staffs there is very mean and unfriendly. My girlfriend and I were willing to adopted a cat there; therefore, we had to fill in a paper about our information. First, we did not know what the paper really was because we were talking about microchip with another staff, and the unfriendly staff did not tell us what the paper was and why we are putting all our information on the paper. However, I finished the paper, but my girlfriend mentioned that she wanted to be the owner of the cat, for we amused that this might be the background info and the microchip info, so we re-do the paper work and turn it in. Then, the staff turned mad and saying he was not feeling right about this. He said he wanted to make sure all their pets go to a loving place and rejected us without further discussion. I had no problem with him being strict about this, but the way he criticized us is just harsh. On the other hand, my girlfriend and I did not give up on adopting a cat. Before we went to Pet Pal, we went to Brandon animal shelter, but we did not find one that suited us, so we went to the last pet shelter visit for the day, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay. The staffs there are so much nicer than Pet Pal. They are very talkative, helpful, and the most important thing, a smile. In there, we found a kitten that my girlfriend and I both really like, so we were going for the adoption. Same paper work and everything, and the staffs called my apartment office to make sure my place was pet friendly. Unfortunately, my place did not allow pets that are under one year old. I guess I just had to find a cat not a kitten that we wanted to adopt. Everything aside, I still could not understand how in the world a staff that mean could work in Pet Pal, and I found that he was the executive director in there. I was super shock!!!

We fell in love with Chance. He does have some quirks, but we are training him. He loves his walks with us. And is a snuggle buddy with an A+ award. The people at Pet place are great! We kept watching the website for a small dog and left right away when we knew a small dog was there. We are so happy with him. They are so professional and know what they are doing.

Mostly friendly staff. I usually try and stop in with toys and food donations for the kitties there several times a month. They are doing a good thing for the community and the little kitties looking for forever homes. I hope to someday stop by and be turned away because 100% of all the amazing kitties have been adopted

I researched one of their dogs and reached out. After communicating with them I drove two house too meet the dog. I was excited and ready to adopt. Unfortunately when I got there they didn't allow me to see the dog. Told me it was only for houses and no apartments. No where did it say this nor did anyone inform me during theany emails and calls. I waited my time and went home disappointed and upset. They brought my hopes up and crushed them. After a terrible weekend I was hoping for something to brighten my day. It hard to pick another when your heart was so set on the one.

This is a first class organization that is extremely clean and passionate in their quest in finding a happy home for otherwise unwanted cats and dogs.

For me, they came to the rescue of 3 precious cats who I was made aware were about to be euthanized. I would have adopted them but already have 3 of my own and could not possibly take any more in.

The thought of these animals being given a second chance without the possibility of needlessly dying is priceless for me.

I will support this group as long as I live and thank the Director "Scot" and his staff for their dedication and compassion.

Haven't been here yet. (I don't dare)
This place does quite a business of caring for abandoned dogs and cats. Also thanks to donors, it is very good for pitbulls. One of these days it is like we will stop in and become immediately attached to a new family member.

I was very surprised to read the negative reviews on here, so I decided to add my experience: I adopted my little one-eyed chihuahua, Abraham, from them a few years ago. The staff was extremely friendly, and seemed eager to help me pick out the perfect addition to my fur family. I have also been in several other times to drop off supplies and the staff has always been friendly and courteous to me. Never had a bad experience at this place. My mother has also adopted here and had a wonderful experience as well. If you're looking to adopt in the Tampa Bay Area, please consider stopping by this place first. They do excellent work and clearly have the best interest of their animals at heart :)

At first we were very satisfied with the staff. We called right before they closed on Thursday inquiring about a beautiful dog they had for adoption. My husband explained that we were coming from Plant City and we didn t want to drive down there if someone else had adopted him and they were kind enough to work things out. They asked if there was any kids in the home and they were told that there was 3 boys, ages between 13-18 and my husband was told they didn t need to go. Well..he got there with my oldest son on Friday and interacted with the dog and fell in love with him, then he was told he would need to bring the whole family along with our puppy. By the time he got back home, it would have been too late by the time we got back there. So, we got there this morning with the whole family and our dog and someone else was looking at him, so we waited in the waiting room, while waiting some of the others dogs were barking so our 5 month old puppy started barking and we were asked to take her out because her bark was bothering one of the employees. So needless to say we just left. If you can t handle a dogs bark, well you shouldn t be working at an animal shelter. We could ve given this boy a good home where he would ve gotten lots of love and attention.

Why do these shelters make it so difficult to adopt a cat??? Prepare to provide references, condo docs, hoa agreements, etc. It s always one more thing. Little wonder we have to sent strays out of state to find homes.

So basically my fiancee and I kept missing out on dogs we wanted to adopt from other shelters because labs, especially lab puppies are so popular. I decided we should stop looking for awhile. He was determined and came across our girl Cali's profile and loved that she had a smiling picture. When he went to go see her she was friendly and approachable. By time I came home she was there and we were both in love. She is the most precious gift to us and we are so happy that we could be her happy, forever home. It gives us so much happiness to see her go from a slightly anxious dog to a happy, go lucky dog that knows she has so much love. We do not know her back story except that she was found with two puppies but we love knowing that we can make the remainder of her life happy. Thanks Pet Pals for allowing us to adopt her. She's our fur baby!

We went to Pet Pal to look for a kitten for my dau...

We went to Pet Pal to look for a kitten for my daughter and found one she liked. After the adoption process, we left and took her new kitten home. Of course we went out and bought all the items we thought he needed and went home. This same week, her kitten looked like he wasn't feeling too well and while I was out on the weekend, my daughter called me to come home because she saw blood in his bed! I rushed home and called the Emergency Veterinarian on 22nd Ave North, near 34th Street in St. Petersburg to have her kitten seen immediately. After going to the emergency vet, we found out that her kitten had a urine infection! This cost us almost $300.00! Yes, Yes, I know, it states on the adoption papers that when you adopt an animal and walk out the door, your responsible for everything, but this happened the same week, within days that we noticed her new kitten was feeling bad. We do not have any other animals and this kitten had to have had this urine infection before we adopted him from Pet Pal! I called Pet Pal on the following Monday when they were open and spoke to a woman who answered. I told her what happened and she told me that we could have brought our kitten to the Pet Pal Clinic. I told her they were not open and it couldn't wait. I mean, what kind of pet owner would I be, to just wait until Monday?! You would think, under the circumstances, there would be some kind of reimbursement or other measures Pet Pal might make when something like this happens, considering this kitten had this urine infection from their shelter before we adopted him! I went to Pet Pals adoption center and spoke with a woman who told me that there wasn't anything she, they could do, but she would speak with Scott. NEVER heard a word back! Oh well, were thrilled with our daughters kitten, but I would NOT recommend adopting from Pet Pal. Too bad!

I don't get the negative reviews. This place is amazing. It's clean, the animals are content and not terrified lIke you would see them at a kill shelter. The staff is caring. On top of saving the lives of countless animals they are reaching out into the community to help kids earn bright future hours and other service hours. Can you imagine how busy the people who work there are; especially the owner Scott who is one of the most impressive animal advocates I've ever met. If you were denied a pet from here they have good reason. They want the animals adopted and you shouldn't take this personally. This isn't a kill shelter so there isn't a timeline on these animals heads. Thankfully. I love this place. My pets go to the clinic as well and I've been to countless fundraising events for pet pals. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for all you do!

There set up is cute but the space they have for the animals isn't sufficient enough. They have about 20-30 cats cramped in one room so they are constantly fighting. The people there are extremely rude. I had to go there for volunteer hours and the two older ladies didn't explain what needed to be done or how they wanted things done, they just expected us to do it and find things on our own. After asking for help they lady just said "I can get this room done in 30 minutes, you guys can leave". I have heard that they are like "nazis", and they don't seem like animal people. Scott really needs to whip his people into shape or hire new people, because my experience was awful and I would not recommend volunteering there or adopting your animals there! The only good thing about this place is that they are a no-kill shelter.

There's a stray cat I've been feeding that keeps getting pregnant, I would like to have fixed and adopted out. She's a super sweetheart, but the ppl in my neighborhood are idiots. I have a house cat, but she does not want anymore company. She has 2 guinea pig siblings and apparently that's where she draws the line. Anyways the front desk receptionist IS super rude, she acted like she didn't see me standing in front of her for 3 minutes. I was finally acknowledged by Scott Daly who said the shelter was full, but if I could bring her and her one remaining kitten in he would see what he could do.
