I resided at PEC in 1995; I was 18-years-old at the time. I have since excelled in life. PEC was a fresh start, a new beginning; they showed me how to stand on my own two feet. I am grateful to the shelter.

A business that has helped me out countless times. I found out about this place, I believe online, about 5 years ago. Jasmine Hunt was my Career Developer before she transitioned into a new role. So, later that year I met Joe'Nell Williams, who is has become like another Mother to me. The next year, I also got to meet with a beautiful African woman to get more literacy on Credit. The only person I still have been in contact with during visits of the Center for the past few years is Joe'Nell. It may be a business as far as the dorm setting that caters to females only. I just happened to be introduced to the resources aspect of the company at a time where they helped Men too. One of the best businesses in aiding me into dealing with young Adulthood. A blessing

About People's Emergency Center

People's Emergency Center (PEC, PECCDC) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community for over 40 years. The organization was founded in 1977 with the aim of providing emergency shelter and support services to homeless families in Philadelphia. Since then, PEC has expanded its services to include affordable housing, job training, education programs, and community development initiatives.

PEC's mission is to nurture families, strengthen neighborhoods and drive change in West Philadelphia. The organization believes that everyone deserves a safe and stable home, access to quality education and job opportunities. PEC works towards achieving this by providing comprehensive support services that empower individuals and families to achieve their full potential.

One of the core programs offered by PEC is emergency shelter for homeless families. The organization operates two shelters - one for single women with children and another for families - which provide temporary housing along with case management services such as counseling, job training, financial literacy classes etc.

In addition to emergency shelter services, PEC also offers affordable housing options through its real estate development arm - People's Emergency Center Community Development Corporation (PECCDC). PECCDC develops high-quality affordable housing units that are accessible to low-income households in West Philadelphia. These units are designed keeping in mind the needs of residents such as accessibility features for seniors or people with disabilities.

PEC also runs several education programs aimed at improving academic outcomes for children from low-income households. These programs include after-school tutoring sessions, summer camps etc., which help students develop their skills while having fun at the same time.

Another important program offered by PEC is workforce development training which helps individuals acquire new skills or upgrade existing ones so they can secure better-paying jobs. This program includes vocational training courses such as culinary arts or construction trades along with soft-skills training like resume writing or interview preparation.

PEC also engages in community development initiatives aimed at revitalizing neighborhoods in West Philadelphia. These initiatives include beautification projects like planting trees or creating community gardens along with advocacy efforts focused on issues like affordable housing or public safety.

Overall, People's Emergency Center (PEC) plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable populations in West Philadelphia through its comprehensive range of support services including emergency sheltering options; affordable housing developments; educational programming opportunities; workforce development trainings; community engagement activities focused on neighborhood revitalization efforts – all designed specifically around empowering individuals & strengthening communities alike!
