Part of a current 5 year study. In the fifth year. Data is important to this study to be able to address some anomalies.

2000-2004: At the time, it had a good research program in obesity genetics. The research facilities were about 3-5 years behind industry standards but adequate for most purposes. Pennington had/has a significant endowment, which covered non-research facilities and administrative staff. However, all researchers depended on soft money, although overhead on grants was relatively small (<<50 ). Junior faculty were treated with respect, something I didn't appreciate until I moved to VaTech.
IMHO, it's major fault was poor integration the main LSU campus. It was 4-5mi down the road with no shuttle service (and practically no parking w/o paying for a separate pass). This made collaborations difficult to maintain and even harder to initiate.
This info is 15 years old so things may well have improved.

Really important and interesting work being done here on a wide variety of things including diabetes and metabolism.
