But it all depends on the barista's skill and the store. The original Vine St store is pretty consistent in quality with some outdoor sidewalk seating...local hangout for decades for some who are now gray haired...a nice location, but parking can be challenging. Walk there if you can.
Several good quality boutique stores nearby and Gourmet Ghetto's sought after eateries .
The Shattuck downtown store is a different environment...and they always have an insufficient amount of chairs. There you have to have a code for the bathrooms.
More street people around, virtually no parking but a hop , skip and a jump from downtown BART stn. With Berkeley's downtown at your doorstep, including 2 3 movie theaters!
The Solano Ave Peets continues to be ,a good place to stop over for a relaxing cup. Recently remodeled there's ample seating inside and on the extra wide sidewalk there. Lots of shops and eateries nearby.
Finally, the Telegraph Ave site....pkg again a chore so best for walkers. Cal student area including student oriented casual eateries and shopping. Very little left of Telegraph of the 60's...this Peets is fine..again, coded bathrooms as this area is part of the street culture hub..

Private equity forms keep churning, stopping off value, flipping once premium places like this. The clerk's fly through the revolving door and know less and less.... Are replaceable widgets in toxic capitalist's were dreams. Sad. My Peet would be unhappy to know what happened to his impeccabley integrity, high quality gem.

If you love pretentious clientele, or a snooty "better than thou" for profit company that fires employees that work for them for over 25 years without decent severance then yeah, this is your shop.

Still the best in America. Excellent traditional cappuccino! Alfred Peet's original store on Vine and Walnut, appropriate that it is katty-korner from the Berkeley Friends (Quaker) Meeting house, as coffee is so often the beverage over which friendships are grown! #kahvehkahveh #coffee #espresso #cappuccino

Peets is the best! I was so happy to walk into the original Peets. They are very original and authentic, and by that I mean that they do not sell hot food only pastries for any of those who are wondering. During my visit today the cashier was very kind and informative. I felt very welcomed.

A slice of Berkeley's history you sit outside and you talk and if somebody doesn't like what you said they turn around and attack you with a level of vitriol that belies the low amount of sophistication of regulars. As a new comer you may find it close to impossible to make new frienda

I'm normally not a fan of Peet's because their coffee is too dark and bitter for my liking, but this store is great. The employees are all friendly and helpful, the drinks are consistent and good, and the store itself is well-decorated and welcoming.

Love Peet's coffee. The original location has a little museum in the back which is wonderful and charming. A coffee lover's must go-to destination for a brief history of coffee, old world makers and the story of Mr. Peet himself. I love seeing the collection of the different company logos and coffee packaging throughout the years.

This is where it all started. Different vibe now within and without - I can only imagine the craziness that would ensue if they ever tried filling the neighborhood with the wonderful aroma of roasting beans again as they did back in the day, and who serves brew in ceramic cups anymore? However, staff remains friendly, service oriented, and knowledgeable. Coffee remains excellent, the best you'll find, and in recent eons the company has become quite serious about encouraging their growers and supporting marketplace reforms to further assist them. Brewed coffee reflects the business' global vision so maybe not the exact same thing day after day but you can learn a lot from drinking their varying selections and asking questions of the baristas. The baked munchies are always on with the quality and tastiness in my experience.

Absolute awful experience paid for my coffee gentlemen behind me was not social distancing, staff does not care then they gave guy that was not social distancing coffee to him before me and then argued with me and I just left and they did not even offer me a refund before I left I went back in and told them what the situation was seconds later and they still did not offer me a refund this Pete's coffee is the worst The staff is rude it's happened several times and I will never go back again,P coffee isn't that great in the first place but to have to put up with this kind of customer service during pandemic times is ridiculous!

Had the orange chocolate mocha--in a land of syrupy drinks, this stands apart. To die for! Plus, this is the original Peet's and it has a special charm that's lacking elsewhere. This Peet's still feels like a neighborhood coffee shop. They have gorgeous stoneware and mugs, too.
