Worst hotel I've ever been to. Could get more amenities at a motel
If i could give it a 0 I WOULD. The hotel took the money out for the room a few hours before we got there (which was fine) but then we get to the hotel and they say they can t accept our debit cards after they already took the money out of my account. After 20-30 minutes of just standing there, one guy finally gives us a room saying he could lose his job over putting us in a room but continued and did it for us anyway. And from there on they were super rude and un-accommodating.
(While staying) Staff was as rude as it can get, our room smelled weird, no mini fridge or microwave, one outlet worked, ZERO hot water, they were super sketchy and almost watching us to see if we were doing something wrong and we didn t, they accused us of smoking in the room; which we did not, the shower handle was broke, the tv didn t have a remote, the volume on the tv controls the channels, the tv looks like someone took a magnet to the screen and when we told the staff what was wrong they replied back with a rude and completely irrelevant question which led us to going out for the day without showering. There s no restaurant, pool or bar here.
(After staying) I wake up to see the hotel tried to steal money out of my account THREE times, for THREE DIFFERENT random amounts. I call the hotel; as we are already back home and what sounded like an older lady was VERY rude saying considering myself lucky bitch WE WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL OR BOOK THROUGH YOU GUYS AGAIN! THEY BLAME EVERYTING ON BOOKING.COM
WiFi did not work. One of the wall plugs did not work. Called to fix but didn't resolve the issue. Very Very under staffed. Does not do morning calls or room service.
A lot of character, amazing view of the River, and friendly staff.
Terrible, bar is closed, very dirty. Was over 80 degrees in my room and there is no air conditioning. Went to front desk and complained and she asked if we wanted to rent a fan for $15. On top of the "resort fee" when the bar and pool are closed. Would not give me a refund
Where do I begin, when we first got there the staff was really nice. But when I got to our room is was really gross and filthy. We asked politely if they had any other rooms or if they were going to clean it. They yelled at us and said they had nobody to clean it and we could either sleep outside or in filth. And I did not get my money back. Worst hotel in Detroit!
The hotel is outdated
There wasn t a proper door knob or blanket
The front desk attendant had us waiting for nothing because no one was there, it s in a bad neighborhood, strange people was hanging around
There was construction with no heads up
Very dirty room, we slept with our clothes on
The room smelled old and musty
I could keep going
I wouldn t stay there FOR FREE
Pretty scenic location but no amenities and no information from staff to help out of towners find amenities needed. No services available ie working house phone if needed, no cups in room and you re SOL because none are at front desk either! No clue if they re is a restaurant around even as no information was given. Overall cleanliness of room was below par.
Couldn t wait to get out of there would never go back unfortunately.
Nice location.
Unfortunately, the hotel has its best years behind it. It must have been great in the "wedding".
The porter was very rude.
After waiting over an hour and a half for my room, they finally "upgraded" me to a smaller room that faced the parking lot instead of the riverfront view room I booked. The bed was comfortable enough but had a second sheet instead of a comforter. The pull out couch did not have any bedding on it. The next morning I politely asked if I could be reimbursed the difference from the room I booked to the room I got but was told they can't do that at the front desk and I would have to call the manager the following day. I wish I could say a redeeming quality about this place, but there are non. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.
Don't believe the hype! Want ALL my money back! it's not like what they advertising. Old, run down and not up to code or standards! Roberts needs to come and stay in it himself and then things will get better!! Brand New Management was hired the day before, tried to be nice and sympathetic, said I would get a reduced rate but THAT didn't happen. On top of that Travelocity didn't respond either to my complaint. I spent big money for a "suite", no AC (gave us 2 fans), TV's didn't work, no microwave or fridge, lied about the Riverview, windows were dirty and way too high to see out of.plus only open halfway! Ruined my romantic anniversary night with my husband! Phone was located in the bathroom and it DIDN'T work so I had to use my cellphone to call the front desk or walk down to complain!!
If you want to get robbed book a room here, no security, employees have no control over the security cameras a big inconvenience. Also no refrigerator or microwave and the t.v. Visual is terrible.
This hotel is nothing like the pictures or they are significantly outdated. The wallpaper is peeling in the rooms. There were ashes on the tables and corners. The bathtub was stained. The tables had a sticky residue on them. The heat didnt work well and there was a small space heater for a large space. They charge a holding fee for damages, and I'm not sure anything further could worsen its current state. I would not recommend this place or return.
The place was absolutely filthy and there is no shuttle service.
The worst hotel I ve been in my life. Old hotel and Creepy place, smells weed everywhere, all the rooms smells on cigarettes. The parking was dark, and there was security watching the cars. I was praying to find my car next morning. Avoid this place.
Nice grounds. We were just out walking along the river. There was a really beautiful wedding that was taking place on the hotel grounds. Everything looked very nice and well taken care of
I like how you can see the Detroit River View through the window, but other than that it's a nice building with decent rooms.
Quick overnight stay. Room was good, ceilings were tall, everything seemed clean, view of the river was cool.
My first time visiting this Hotel was for the Certified Praise Fest Featuring Vickie Winans. I really enjoyed myself there and would love to be able to shoot my music video there.
The staff was very polite and was also upfront and apologetic regarding the issue with their check-in and key system being a problem. The room itself, once we got in, was a bit warm. I don't think the AC worked well. It never got below 76, and it was nearly 80 outside that day. The room was clean enough, but a little rundown. Parking lot is not well lit. And the shower head was at about chin height on me (I'm 5'10"). Not a terrible stay, but not worth the final bill of $184.
This hotel is terrible never in my life send anything like it period it need to be rebuilt everything is old nothing works properly n they are cheap I wanted to support them how things getting done it's not right and sad
Poor customer service & unprofessionalism from staff members, Manager, & Owner. Dirty freezing room, signs posted no weapons, park @ your own risk, guest service agent folding bed linen @ front desk. If you ask for refund due to not occupying or utilizing room it takes 7-10 days to process. Poor rating on other hotel review sites. The good ratings that the hotel has received is from close friends & family members only, believe me. Please be aware & stay away from this wretched hotel. You will be wasting your time & money. 2.9 rating means something....
Never again ...
- Reached hotel around 6.30pm
- opened the main door and the next moment was like 'gosh I made a mistake'. The floor carpet was horribly stained with dirt and smelt like mould
- Spider webs, fused light bulbs, filthy songs on TV
- It took almost 70 minutes to complete check-in process. I was 3rd in queue waiting to check in.
- While checking in, I asked the staff whether my room is cleaned, air conditioning working and does it have a river view? I paid extra for a room with view! The staff replied: please go to the room and check for it and if anything's wrong then come back to front desk and let's see if we can help.
- I complained about this at the front desk and I was asked to check out if I am not happy or to downgrade to some other room.
- I opted to check out and still waiting for the hotel management to accept for refund.
- This hotel is almost 110 years old (came to know from one of the staff working there). - - - So, please don't expect flashy and fancy and new or upgraded rooms.
- The is no restaurant either inside the hotel.
- I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel.
You can never go wrong with Live Jazz by the river!! Love it
I am an event planner Wedding coordinator. I was going to have a client rent their space for a party. Their staff was rude, nasty hotel, prices are high, it's old looking,, very unorganized... Just pitiful, road to the hotel has a lot of potholes, smell, they charge for towels and linen. Who does that??? The only reason I gave them one star is because it's near the water that's it. I would never go there again. Damn shame Hall of shame.
Just stayed here over the past weekend. A quick pro/con list:
Pros:
- Affordable - only cost us $300 for 2 nights on short notice.
- Great location - literally steps to the riverwalk, which gave us easy access to the entire city.
- Friendly and welcoming staff - self explanatory.
- Blackout curtains - let me sleep in!
Cons:
- No hot water - the shower set up (in our room at least) left a lot to be desired. The overhead light was out, so we had to shower in the dark. The water was barely warm, unfortunately. The water from the sink was scalding hot, but the shower was cold.
- Paper thin walls: my wife is sleeps like a rock, but I'm quite the opposite. All night long I heard whatever was going on around us. I could hear our neighbors and the people outside talking/partying all night, which made sleeping really difficult.
- Parking lot: as many have mentioned, there are many pot holes, there are no lines to guide parking, and the "park at your own risk" sign can be intimidating for soft individuals.
- Grainy TV
- Poor WiFi
- Old furniture - all chairs/ottomans/desks are very old, rickety, and sketchy. Not a fan.
- No mini fridge - we ordered a pizza before getting to the hotel, then unfortunately had no way to store the leftovers. Our mistake for expecting the fridge.
- No socket covers - none of the outlets had socket covers. I'm no electrician, but this seems like a hazard.
- Chain lock installed wrong - self explanatory - just didn't work properly.
Overall, we'd only stay here again if we had too. If you can, go with a name brand hotel. This is bottom of our list.
It took over 45 min. To check in. Room cards not working, only 1 person checking in then walking you to the room to make sure clean, room smelled horrible, very small room not like photos. 4 lights in bathroom only 1 worked, air conditioning did not work. Totally disappointed that Travelocity even has them on their listing. We checked out after 40 minutes in the room. BEWARE. HORRIBLE. DOES NOT EVEN DESERVE A 1 STAR!!
First the drive could have been plowed, the entry was so slipper that I saw numerous people almost fall and it was never taken care of after reporting it. Out of 4 front desk people, the "I don't care" attitude was overwhelming and unappealing, more important things on their phones. Room temp went no higher than 59. All the things needed for coffee except the coffee maker. A request for both heat and coffee make fell on deff ears. Would not stay again for any reason.
I stayed here back in June 2013. Everything was nice (view) except NO AIR ....Staffs were un professional...I have to requested more than 3x to get our champagne and fruit deliver to our room. When check out, they over charged and said charge has been credit...NOT!! I had to complaint to Better Business Bureau and my credit card company. Finally after 3 months, the credit has been applied back to my card. Please DO NOT STAY here...
False advertisement no room service no bar no restaurant unprofessional on all levels unorganized, 90% of facility doesnt have air, and they run a scam. Charge you and after make excuse and say you will be discounted and never discounted
The worst hotel i had before. I reserved online a room river view for two nights, when i arrived the lady in the resorption did not accept that. After I show her the paper she gave me on on the first floor. We I went there i saw there is nothing in the room except 2 beds and TV with local channels. It was 11:30am and I was tired so i didnt return back to her. Next day, In the morning i was going to have a shower, the water was cold the temperature outside was 28F. I called the reception the sent someone he open the water and told me to keep it open until he back. I wait 30 minutes no one come. I went to the front disk to cancel my reservation i saw him around and the other lady accept my cancelation but later i know they didn't refund my money for the second night. I called them many time they said there is no big reason for your cancelation. Bad hotel.
I visited with family and had lunch there to see if we wanted to have a celebration there. Food was wonderful but they never returned emails our phone calls so that the date could be secured. We felt like we didn't have to beg them to take our money. So unfortunately for them they lost our business.
The service was extremely terrible. They always double book people, then get an attitude when you want YOUR money back. NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!
U could tell the room wasnt being cleaned properly the bed was barley made the sheets came off as soon as I sat on it the covers were stained and so were the towels I paid for a suite and I felt like it was very low class I was upset there was no microwave or fridge in the room the ice machine was broke and spit ice everywhere they had old used shampoo and lotion in the bathroom barley any tissue and NO hand soap very unsatisfied
Very Rude behavior from the Manger and staff while attending the Thursday Jazz concert. To purchase food and drinks takes almost a hour, they will send you to several different stations and no one wants to help, going to the manager did not help because his attitude was worse then the staff. I see why so many people bring their own food and drinks. When we finally got our food everything was cold..smh. Love the Jazz but will never ever order again from them. Deserve No stars.
Not a good place to stay didn't even have pillows for the bed
Clean, scenic, and the quietest hotel I've been in for a long while.
Not a good experience. As soon as we entered the lobby there was an old fat man laying in the lobby with no shoes on watching TV. The clerk Tia was very nice, but the other workers were rude and didn't help me. Now my sense of smell is not very good and as I walked down the hallway to the room, it was just like the Colt 45 song where the blind man is walking through a fish market. If you look at the chandeliers they look like they are about to fall off. We entered the room and I made sure to take pictures because most of the furniture was old, worn, beat up and dirty. I would recommend taking pictures of the room before settling otherwise they might charge you. Sheets are dirty, floor looks like someone secreted on it. We are not staying the night. We are checking out. I don't care if I don't get refunded, I'm not staying where I dont feel safe or comfortable. Please read the reviews before staying here. I would only stay here if I had no other option and totally out of necessity. The only good thing about this hotel is the fact you can walk out and be right next to the river.
Worst hotel I have ever been to paid 128 and a hundred dollar deposit no remote for TV when asked was told they couldn't find it the HBO guide was from April no soap and bathroom was nasty when I went to check out had to wait an hour to get my deposit back very rude people overpriced the restaurant wasnt even open for dinner
Attended for work event. Service was laughably bad. They tried to serve more than 90 guests romaine lettuce and cheese as a lunch. Breakfast took 90 minutes and some others never got their food. Others had credit card charged twice and others were prematurely checked out and couldn't get into their rooms.
Great atmosphere with a wonderful wonderful band. My third year in a row only getting better and better
NO STARS
HORRIBLE
I'm still trying to reach the supervisor that no one knows when he/she comes in.
its was hot air not working
hundreds of bugs on the ceiling
there was no toiletries in room, I guess the housekeeping was scared of the bugs and hurried up and got out of there
hair all in bathroom
room phone didn't even work, I could of had an emergency situation and couldn't call no one
and they think imma pay full price for that... hell no
I booked on Priceline, apparently the stay for $100/night was a non-refundable ticket. Upon checking in, the 2 receptionists were overwhelmed and struggling. The first 2 rooms I was given had visible yellowing stains on their comforters. The rooms are minimally cleaned and kept. The building is old and outdated, not intentionally retro like the St. Regis hotel. It s ok the Riverwalk but you won t see the river. You ll see a giant garbage can. After 2 rooms with dirty comforters, they refused to refund me and I was forced to stay there or pay double to stay elsewhere. I assumed this hotel was ok par with other hotels downtown, it s not. I caught a deal and paid the same amount to stay in the Crowne Plaza downtown. Even a bit more expensive is more worth it. I don t live in Detroit, so I had to stay in a hotel. If they would ve agreed to refund my room even at a later date, I would ve paid double and waited for the refund. But I had to choose to risk just losing my money. Any place with a conscience would ve refunded it for having a poor quality service. I was given a corporate number written on a ripped piece of paper and it is a google voice number. There s plenty of signs around saying they aren t responsible for theft. This is the ghetto of hotels downtown. If you want a historic stay, go to the St. Regis hotel. Otherwise, go to a major hotel chain. This is not a hotel you can t see before you book.
We were very excited to stay at this hotel. However, when we called, we were told our reservation wasn't visible. We asked how that is, and she said they were full and that it didn't go through. We weren't upset, we found a cheaper hotel room that would cost us less money anyway. Waking up the next morning, after being told they would not pull funds out, of course you can guess what happened. The rude woman on the other line was of course incorrect!
Saturday, 9/3/2017:
After noticing at 9am that the funds were pulled out of our account we contacted out to this hotel, telling them what had happened. All we were told is that there wasn't a manager available, and that they had "a bunch of new staff, who didn't know what the hell they were doing". We left our name and number and asked that we get a call within the next hour. She assured us this would get done.
10:10am -
We called back, upset that still no manager called us to get this straightened out. We got ahold of the same rude employee who sighed when we stated who we were, and handed the phone over to a male manager. He told us that he has started looking into this matter and that he just wanted our patience. We were OK with this, even though their lack of caring caused us to not get tickets to the Saturday day game for the Detroit Tigers, and left us no money to explore the zoo. This was hard for us to accept (we work hard, and the little money were able to save after all our bills has been going towards this trip). The manager assured us he'd call us back, however failed to do so.
4:47pm:
I spoke with a Terrence, who had undoubtedly the worst customer service I've ever experienced. He was very rude, and he had a very condescending personality. He didn't even try to act like he cared. He told me the manager wasn't there, then changed his story after I asked why his manager came in at 10am, stating he was now in a meeting. I of course told him I'd call back.
5:47pm:
I called and upset at this point asked to speak with any manager possible there. He said he's still in the meeting and didn't know what time he'd be out. I requested again that I speak to him right now. That he needs to pass a note to him in the meeting or tell him right now. He said I understand your frustrated but I won't be doing that. I told him I'd call back in an hour, and with a smart smug tone Terrence said "I look forward to hearing from you".
7pm -
I spoke with Tanja. She claimed to be the supervisor at this location, and was very apologetic, and understanding. She wanted us to get this resolved, but couldn't do anything herself she stated. She gave us a phone number to their corporate offices, and told us to call and leave a message, then also left an email address for us to contact them immediately. I told her we'd go this way, and call her back if there were any problems.
9/5/2017 -
1pm - I took my whole lunch break at work trying to contact their corporate office. I've also emailed them on 9/3/2017 with our issues. However, no response. Their phone number goes to an automated answering service, and doesn't get us directly to a person who can give us answers. We will call the hotel again tonight, and record our progress!
After all is said and done, we ended up getting our money back. In order to do so we had to file a BBB complaint. If you want your money back, follow that procedure, and they'll jump immediately through the hoop to resolve it.
Could be great. Needs TLC. Was very loud at night with a lot of partying and the distinct smell of grass, which doesn't bother me unless it's accompanied by loud noises and alcohol. Excellent location and building, but not all it could be. Decent value for the price.
Cheap but that's all I can say bout it. You pay for what you get really. Staff was friendly but needs training. Luke warm water, no microwaves.
I dont think they have a cleaning service at this hotel. The carpet is disgusting. I wouldn't walk on in with stocking feet. I could tell nothing had been cleaned or wiped down in the bathroom, or tables by the bed, nor the carpet was vacuumed. The ice holder had water left in it . The wi-fi did not work. The tv only had 3 channels that worked. No cups available for coffee in the morning. No soap, The sheets and bedding seemed clean..I hope it was. When I got home I washed everything . I guess you get what you pay for . The staff at front desk were very nice. And any other hotels closer to down town Detroit were in the $300-$500 range . So I guess you get what you pay for but for $135.00 a night I was expecting more cleanliness. I would not come back to this hotel.
The rooms were nice and the dining was good also. However, everything went well with check inn. However, at checkout, MAKE SURE you have something signed and a copy because they'll ask you for a hundred dollar deposit which they'll claim you never put a deposit down. Either the front desk pocket the money or the management just trying to rip you off. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN! !!!
Love this hotel. It is so pretty. It is a shame it is ran horrible. They overbooked and didn't have a room for us for 2 hours. All of downtown was booked so we had to wait for them to make it right. Then the temperature dropped to 50 that night and the heat in our room didn't work. Then security came into our room at 3pm to see if it was occupied. Horrible experience. They refunded 30% so that's why they get 3 stars. I would never stay here again. Comfort inn down the road is way better... Just not as pretty
Overpriced terrible hotel...... No air in my room ALL WEEKEND.... Bathroom sink keep stopping up remote didn't work... Housekeeper brung a fan that didn't work and had dead bed bugs all on the base......3 people at the desk have taken my complaints and my number saying they would contact me and change my room.... No one has called me.... Housekeeping came to tell me she was checking to see if other rooms were available amd hasn't been back in 3hrs...... I will DEFINITELY NOT COME BACK HERE..... I was promised a refund here it is 2 months later still no refund and every time I call they just take my name and number tell me they're going to handle it and that they'll follow up with me NOTHING HAS HAPPENED.
The staff here is great. They go above and beyond to accomodate their guests.
The Jazz is Impeccable. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable and a mature crowd. I TRULY Enjoyed myself, there is dancing during intermission. I Will be BACK.
i just stayed at the riverwalk resort in Detroit and it was the dirtiest hotel i have ever stayed in here in the US and much dirtier then most hotels in other countries. everything in the room was filthy. it took an hr to check in, there was toilrt paper in the toilet when i got to the room the air co dirioning was broken the tv remorlte never worked and was filthy. the staff just did not care one bit. the resturant was out of milk in the am not even for coffee. the bed and bedding was so dirty i literally slept in my clothes on the sheet and did not pull the covers over me. no shampoo in the room the list goes on and on.
coon location, and with a staff that had ANY BASIC PRIDE at all it would be a fun spot. but not now. this is the first review i have ever written.
Absolutely horrible. Our air conditioning didn't work and they never switched our room. There was garbage on the floor in the stairwell. Linens were dirty and they never changed them. TV was broken and fixtures were hanging off wall.
Surprisingly nice hotel ! Great customer service and close enough to Cobo.
It had a bed.
Don't schedule a wake up call or plan on eating at the restaurant. They never called and the restaurant was never open
Great hotel but for the price should include some breakfast or a place whre to sit and have one!
Everything was broken including air, could have been a beautiful place, back parking is very dark and scary
Hotel staff were nice but not necessarily trained well. Took several hours to get towels. The air conditioning was not working in the lobby. The facility is out dated with no secure parking. My car was struck in the early am...a hit and run...I've never experienced this. The phone in the room was not working. Outlet covers missing and door knobs falling off of doors. At the least, proper repair should occur before charging any guest to stay at this hotel. Js.
Total Nightmare! Outrageous charges and horrible customer service. This experience should be a crime. No respect for guests, fake fees, rude staff and old dated decor!
Dirty , place water damaged in our room paint bubble up ,carpet coming up (20) years old , elevators noisy not inspected no tags ,room was very noisy old furnace ,staff was useless ,nothing like the pictures show ,except the water front only nice thing other wise disappointing had 2 night stay but left early don't even want any refund because you won't get it back being they are not franchise and foreign owned.
The service was awful! When we arrived we were told if we took our car to leave again there may not be a parking spot left for us as there was a free Jazz concert on the river that night. Our room was wide open, moderately clean but no towels, toilet paper, tissues nor a way to lock the safe. We were charged a resort fee there is NOTHING about this hotel that makes it a resort. The best thing we can say is we had a river view room so that was nice. Wanted to talk to the manager upon checkout but was told she wasn t there yet and that she was 2 hours late for work today. RIDICULOUS
Worst two days I've had in a long time. Check-in was at 3:00 p.m. did not get my room until 4:30, and that was after paying an early check-in fee. No A/C the whole time we were there, and they didn't have enough fans. Room did not get cleaned on the second day and when I spoke to management all I was told is that they were understaffed and that "I did not understand the business". Would not even fix my sink when it would not drain. Will not return, and will make sure no one I know ever goes there.
Worst hotel ever only think that was ok was the. Rude staff dirty tub and no ac
