About Oregon zoo
Welcome to the Oregon Zoo, a place where you can experience the wild side of Oregon. Located on 64 acres in the West Hills of Portland, this zoo is a world community of animals and humans that is dedicated to animal care, conservation, and wildlife education.
The Oregon Zoo has been around for over 130 years and has become one of the most popular attractions in Portland. It was founded in 1888 when Richard Knight purchased two bears from a hunter and displayed them in his drugstore window. The bears became so popular that Knight decided to build a zoo to house them.
Today, the Oregon Zoo is home to over 2,600 animals representing more than 200 species from around the world. Visitors can see everything from elephants and lions to penguins and otters. The zoo also has several exhibits that showcase different habitats such as Africa Rainforest, Amazon Flooded Forest, Great Northwest, Pacific Shores, Primate Forests among others.
One thing that sets the Oregon Zoo apart from other zoos is its commitment to animal welfare. The zoo's Animal Welfare Program ensures that all animals are provided with proper nutrition, medical care and living conditions that mimic their natural habitat as closely as possible.
In addition to animal welfare programs at the zoo itself there are also many conservation efforts underway both locally and globally through partnerships with other organizations like Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), International Rhino Foundation (IRF) among others.
The Oregon Zoo also offers educational programs for visitors of all ages including school groups who come on field trips throughout the year. These programs include hands-on activities like feeding giraffes or petting goats which help visitors learn about different species while having fun at same time.
Another unique feature of this zoo is its focus on sustainability practices such as recycling waste materials into compost or using solar panels for energy production which helps reduce carbon footprint while still providing high-quality experiences for visitors.
Overall if you're looking for an exciting day out with family or friends then look no further than visiting "Oregon Zoo". With its wide variety of animals exhibits showcasing different habitats along with educational programs it's sure be an unforgettable experience!
