About Ontario Heritage Trust
The Ontario Heritage Trust is a non-profit organization that aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Ontario, Canada. Established in 1967, the Trust has been working tirelessly to protect and conserve the province's rich history for future generations.
The Trust's mission is to identify, protect, promote and conserve Ontario's heritage resources. It does this by working with communities across the province to identify important historical sites and buildings that are at risk of being lost or destroyed. The Trust then works with property owners, local governments, and other stakeholders to develop strategies for preserving these sites.
One of the key ways in which the Trust promotes Ontario's heritage is through education. The organization offers a range of educational programs designed to help people learn about their local history and culture. These programs include workshops, seminars, lectures, and tours of historic sites.
In addition to its educational programs, the Trust also manages a number of historic properties throughout Ontario. These properties include museums, art galleries, parks and gardens that showcase different aspects of Ontario's cultural heritage.
One such property managed by the Trust is Black Creek Pioneer Village located in Toronto. This living museum features over 40 restored buildings from the 1800s that provide visitors with an immersive experience into what life was like during this time period.
Another notable property managed by the trust is Fulford Place located in Brockville which was once home to Senator George Taylor Fulford who made his fortune selling patent medicine across Canada.
The trust also manages several natural areas including Ojibway Prairie Complex located near Windsor which contains one of Canada’s rarest ecosystems – tallgrass prairie – as well as savannah woodland habitats home to many species at risk including eastern fox snake
Overall The Ontario Heritage trust plays an important role in preserving our province’s rich cultural heritage for future generations while promoting education about our past so we can better understand where we came from as Ontarians today
