Great local museum! Was able to visit multiple historic buildings for one entrance price. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon while visiting York.
If you love history, you'd love this. Definitely do the tour if your in York, Maine. Cheap and has so much history to offer you.
Nice town. Lots of history. Great little walk. If your in the area you should stop and take in all the history this town has to offer.
This is a review of the Jefferd's Tavern special culinary events.
A couple times each year the Museum of Old York will host local chefs, which do a special hearthside full course dinner. The dinners are BYOB, so don't forget your favorite bottle of wine. The seating is family style with six people per table. The wait staff is in period garb. See photos.
These local chefs cook memorable meals. The last event we attended was hosted by the chefs from Wabi, York Maine. Their menu included Bellini cocktail, open hearth wood fired pizza, open hearth grilled Caesar salad, black and white tagliatelle primavera, open hearth grilled lobster and sea scallop thermidor, and baked Alaska for dessert.
You'll find these culinary events memorable, gastronomically satisfying, and well worth the price, which is all-inclusive.
Half dozen restored buildings within walking distance from each other. Guided tours are fairly good. Reasonably priced.
The Old York Gaol in York, Maine, is one of the most authentic and fascinating historical sites to visit in Maine. Make sure you have time to enjoy the knowledgeable staff when you are in York.
There's a lot of old history in the town of York village Maine you must go and visit the old gold Museum the old Cemetery it's very interesting I give it a five stars.
It's a fairly interesting property for which really nice is the location and how quiet it is. It's also a good value as there are three properties they're they're all covered under one admission fee if you take the package which was $15 from recollection. The prison was no more interesting part to me and more unique part. the main house has a guided tour but I think they would do themselves well to add a guided tour to the prison as well.
The old buildings serve as an excellent way to facilitate learning about colonial life and York s renowned history. Definitely worth a stop, especially on a rainy day. Bet you don't know why it's spelled "Gaol" instead of jail!
