Maybe I had higher expectations or it has to do with Covid, it was disappointing. Except small shop (1st one at the entrance), rest couldn't impress me much. Many modern day techs present like in lighting. Accents were give away for modern americans. No children at all. Cafeteria is all modern food. More of poor demo than live village. Fees is on downside but I wouldn't mind shelling more for better experience.
Why small shop impressed me? Games sounded fun, the way presented. It'd be fun to play the diamond square game and get a taste of old times. Sadly I couldn't find those old games in gift shop. I'd have bought them if they were there.
A more hands on is definitely welcome.
Treatment of animals could be better. No warm sheets on top for horses or cows n sheeps (temp was in -ve) or maybe they are accustomed to these temps. Cow n sheeps were in shed maybe cause it was already sunset. Hope they get out in sun.
Lot of crowd, you'd see line at every corner. My first experience with live village. All the best.

Updates:
I received a warm response from Village team. I wish you all the best because covid has affected us in many unexpected unimaginable ways. I would definitely visit again with my family and have more fun next time. Thanks.

I was disappointed the place was not more bustling. They could have businesses using the, sheep wool, selling the veggies they grow, the clothes they make, etc. However, the students really enjoyed themselves and especially loved the "make and explore" workshops. So overall, Im satisfied that my students had a good day and hopefully learned about colonial life.

This place is wonderful. Enter an 1830s New England village. Employees are dressed in period clothes and extremely knowledgeable. My favorite part is the technology on display, including 3 working water powered mills using different technology, various descriptions of how the price of clothing fell rapidly, authentic cooking demonstrations, a whole museum devoted to lamps and lighting, etc.

Bring your walking shoes and plan on 2 days to see the whole thing.

Another wonderful day at OSV. Weather was perfect and picturesque. We were there to watch a performance of Big River and it was extremely well done. Many things going on during the fourth with fife and drum playing to an old fashioned baseball game. Bring the kids and enjoy the day.

Old Sturbridge Village is a great time. We have a membership but only go occasionally due to our busy schedule. We don't mind supporting such a great cause. My kids have asked that we go more often because they enjoy it that much. History is made interesting for kids because they can see the lifestyle of people in their daily routines and interact with the re-inactors. Definitely worth a look.

Haven't been here in thirty years This place is a lot more fun than I remembered. As a child I remember them being really into the role play, which can get tedious. Now, they seem more focused on education, which the kids loved.

Gets really busy just before Christmas. Get there early to avoid parking in satellite lot. Lots of walking and being outside so dress warm with comfy shoes. Can purchase cafeteria food and some [(limited) adult] beverages. Bonfires in various locations are a great place to warm up. Very festive place to visit around theholidays. .

Will take more then one visit to see everything. Very friendly staff and very knowledgeable. Respect Veterans and with admission to the Village, we can visit our fellow Americans history & way of life. Our grandchildren learned a lot of what it took for our freedom & way of life. Parking is great with Handicap accessible parking. Will return for other events as should all Americans. "Thank you all" at the Village.

A great historical re-enactment that is a live - educational experience for children - and interesting for adults too if you like the early British/European settler period in New England American history. The buildings -homes, shops, blacksmith, candle making, etc are staffed by staff in period costumes who know their crafts and history - and are charming as they answer your questions. I have gone on and off since childhood -and my classmates and friends from the New England area who have done so as well have great memories of our experiences. So - if you are bringing your children - especially grade two and older - they will remember this for their whole lives!

Lovely setting for the whole family to relax. Plenty of space for the kids to run and play, plus an amazing indoor play space in the visitor's center, set up like a 19th century village in child - scale. Friendly, informative costumed interpeters demonstrate 19th century living, answer questions, and "interpret" the living history you will see around you. Leave feeling relaxed and renewed.

I was a chaperone for a fifth grade field trip and I had never been before - wow! The experience was great - so much to explore and see. The kids had a great time and really enjoyed learning about so many different things and seeing what and old time school house looked like. We were here for 3 hours and the time flew by - we had a chance to see a little bit of everything and stop for lunch at the tavern. We enjoyed a short ride on the horse drawn carriage and saw sheep chicken cows and oxen. The sawmill and blacksmith were really neat to see in action. We also had perfect weather with was really icing on the cake.

About Old Sturbridge Village

Old Sturbridge Village is a living history museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the way of life in New England during the 1830s. It is a unique destination that offers visitors an immersive experience into the past.

The village covers over 200 acres and features more than 40 original buildings from the early 19th century. These buildings include homes, barns, shops, and public buildings such as a schoolhouse and meetinghouse. Each building has been carefully restored to its original condition and furnished with period-appropriate furniture, tools, and artifacts.

Visitors can explore the village on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. They can interact with costumed interpreters who bring history to life by demonstrating traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, weaving, pottery making, and cooking over an open hearth. The interpreters also share stories about daily life in the 1830s and answer questions about their roles in the village.

One of the highlights of Old Sturbridge Village is its working farm. The Freeman Farm is a fully operational farm that showcases traditional farming methods from planting crops to harvesting hay using oxen instead of tractors. Visitors can watch demonstrations or even participate in some activities like milking cows or feeding animals.

Another popular attraction at Old Sturbridge Village is its collection of antique carriages and wagons on display at the Carriage House exhibit hall. This exhibit showcases how transportation evolved during this time period from horse-drawn carriages to steam-powered locomotives.

In addition to these attractions, Old Sturbridge Village hosts special events throughout the year such as Christmas by Candlelight where visitors can experience holiday traditions from long ago including caroling around a bonfire while sipping hot cider.

Old Sturbridge Village also offers educational programs for schools ranging from pre-K through college level students which are designed to meet state curriculum standards for social studies education.

Overall Old Sturbridge Village provides an authentic glimpse into what life was like during early America's industrial revolution era through interactive exhibits that engage visitors with hands-on experiences they won't forget anytime soon!
