OceanSide Fitness club Review

This place is a scam. Do not go here. They lie about there membership pricing. I was told I was locked into a student discount for life. Then a few month later was getting charged full price. I called and canceled and have gotten charge two cancelation fees. The manger is rude and told me I was at fault Because I didn't watch what my credit card was being charged. The place is dirty and the bathroom always has overflowing toilets.

Certain machines aren't working properly but it's better than nothing.

Update 1/2020...
Over the past couple of months NYSC Oceanside has not improve its equipment maintainance. Last night, as the attached picture shows, THREE of NICE cardio/treadmills were in working order. While the TV's SEEM to work now, many don't have sound when plugging in a headset. This also cannot show the treadmill I tried to use, right most in the left bank, that would randomly change speed. Nor the one I did use, 3rd in from center in the left bank, that was very loose altogether.
Looking back to reviews from years past, management responded in this fourm. I'm a current member and reviewer, I've made phone calls.
To date I've had no response from NYSC, amazing.
I've been a member of this gym (this specific location) on & off for the past 15 years. I keep coming back because the high cost seems to keep out the "kids" & steroid crew. I've visited other locations where there facility is top notch. However, as other people have mentioned, the Oceanside location is generally kept in poor repair. A few new managers have come, and gone, that worked to keep things up. But the treadmills are always in troubled condition, pins are missing from machines and in the evening there are no staff members walking around keeping an eye on helping the member or maintaining the facility. The bank of 12 will have 3-4 that simply don't work. The TV's on most are hit or miss if they are working. Last month I made contact with the current management about these issues, was told new treadmills were being installed. But if I was that disappointed with the poor condition of the gym, maybe I should find somewhere else to go. Just disrespectdul.
BTW...they did get SOME "new to them" treadmills. A few are not working and NONE have working TV's, it's been 2-3 weeks. Poor management.

Staff is always friendly and helpful. They get complaints but they listen to them and fix the problem. The club just got all new spin bikes and people are always there fixing equipment when it s broken. The manager is very nice.

Good club, has steam room which I like a lot. If they fix some of the elliptical machines that would be great.

Excellent repair/maintenance work. Costs are fair and honest. Have dealth with G&B for over 15 years. Advice & recommendations have always been "spot on". High quality of work performed by very qualified professionals. Who could ask for more?

RUN FAST!!!! Do NOT join! Each day there are about 3-4 broken treadmills. Equipment is dirty and very old! And you will be overcharged. And god forbid you have a medical emergency they will continue to charge you regardless of physicians documentation. In addition, if you try and contact corporate office, they also do not allow you to speak to anyone except a phone representative to 'take your message'
The managers and supervisors there do not care about any physician documentation! They will hit you with SO many extra charges!
I have belonged to so many gyms, and unfortunately when I moved this was the local gym available, and I am SO sorry I joined. I NEVER leave reviews for anything, but this gym is so bad I feel it very important to warn everyone!

They renew my nysc family membership with my credit card without permission and without talking to me...be careful when you give your details to them.

I am still waiting for your response, it's been more than a week after I wrote to your customer service, and there is no response.
I hope that you are not going to charge me again

They still don't answer and don't respond to my complaint. They took 170 dollars without permission. It's a scam, don't give them your credit card...my club in Woodmere is close for eight months, and they charge my family membership.

It's ok. A little pricy. Equipment not well maintained and it could be cleaner

Beware - I had to fight to cancel my membership with Garden City after putting in multiple requests since April, and now I'm being charged $345 for the Oceanside gym, which is the gym I transferred my membership from when I switched to the Garden City gym. I have not stepped foot in this gym for more than a year, and have not signed any new documents allowing for this charge. I've written to them already and the Attorney General, but please think twice before joining NYSC, seems like you can never leave.

They keep charging you after you leave. They just take your money from card on file as they please and make you fight for what is yours.

The gym itself is nice BUT just be aware that to cancel a membership it is going to cost you. You have to send a certified letter to the gym and then you also have to reach out to the main organization, Town Sports International. A phone call or email is NOT sufficient. If you go with the PT package that will also cost an added fee to cancel, not mentioned in the sign up session.

Club is not kept clean and equipment is regularly not working properly.

Great gym with proactive management that makes sure everything is done right. Large enough for social distancing and sanitized beyond state standards. All equipment is fairly new and nothing is out of order like at Woodmere location. Personal training is available too.

They steal money by increasing monthly dues ($21.95 to $31.95 or more) WITHOUT telling the person. THEN (NYSC) charges you $50.00 to go back to your old rate??? ($21.95).

They even stole money from my Credit Card after 2 months when I canceled my membership. Terrible experience. Save your MONEY & TIME!

Oh and the director SAM NOAH is a nasty women with an attitude. She doesn't care what you have to say and speaks over you! very nasty women and unprofessional.

Used to be a great place, now mismanaged, a lot of equipment is broken, TVs are in poor shape, lockers are dirty, shower soap is toxic. Personnel is friendly, though.

I had been to NYSC about a year ago with a friend that went to sign up but I loved my gym and had no intention of switching.

Fast forward to new years eve when I realized my gym was a bit pricey and wanted to save some money on something cheaper, after all, its just a gym, as long as there is equipment, treadmills and classes, what else do I need, right? So I signed up for $19.99 per month and went home.

Today I went to workout for the first time and boy was I wrong. 5 treadmills were broken, the place was extremely dusty and when I walked to the back for the free weights, there was a very strong sewer smell, I finally got a working treadmill but I was already disappointed so I decided to go to the front desk and cancel my membership. Luckily the process was easy and they refunded me the $19.99 as a 10 day trial ( i didnt know this but was pleasantly surprised) the manager asked my why I was cancelling so soon so I was honest with him.

I wanted to like this gym and im hoping they take care of it and keep it in better condition and clean it up. It has potential but management has to get it together or they will lose customers.

My son said the place smell really bad please members wear deodorant and cologne thanks

Overall this gym is pretty good. There are a few things that need work, like the treadmills which always break down or other equipment. They re always fixing something.

The water from the water fountains taste very old and definitely need new filters.

However, clientele is much better than other gyms in the area, especially compared to the Hewlett NYSC. For the price, this gym is pretty great. I also love the Sauna and Steam Rooms they have in the locker room!

THIS WAS THE 12TH MORNING THIS YEAR THAT THE PERSON OPENING UP WAS LATE... I WAS ONLY AM ABLE TO GO AT 5AM AND NOW I COULDN'T GET A WORKOUT IN AND THE ONLY ANSWER I GET WAS IT WAS A MISS COMMUNICATION AND SOME OTHER PEOPLE WHO WERE OUTSIDE SAID IT WAS MORE THEN 12 TIMES THAT IT DIDN'T OPEN UP ON TIME.

I've been a member of NYSC for many years and this gym has never disappointed me. The staff is courteous and helpful and the members are always willing to lend a helping hand. The new Mgr Stephanie has been a breathe of fresh air. She has been asking members for their input and is working diligently to make this gym even better. Whether you are a beginner or a gym bro I recommend NYSC as a place to meet your fitness goals.

I noticed most of the tv's do not work on the elliptical machines. I look forward to watching TV while working out. If they don't get new equipment, I will terminate my membership.

Never seen a gym where people dont rack the weights.and employees dont seem to care about it...

Not a fan of this gym and location is ok , Parking lot is packed and tight. Expect your car to get hit at some point. They will say anything to get you in. But can t say too much cause you get what you pay for. I know my value and I took it cause it s was cheap and wanted a change of scenery from another gym. Kinda worth paying a bit more from my other gym. At lease I know I was being ripped off by a shady cars sells man lol. It s a gym!! Worth $10 yes $20 maybe $30 hell no. I still come here but I m waiting for my year to end so I can go back to my other gym.

The cardio and total body conditioning classes on Tuesday and Thursday night @6:30pm has the best instructors.
The gym is keep well clean and very friendly staff.

Clean, open and usually empty. Great place for a quick workout! However, it can be pricey if you don't have a membership.

Four stars. I go very early in the morning so experiences for others may vary. Each morning I go it has been opened on time and the only two issues I've had is that sometimes I have to press the button for the steam room myself and some of the equipment has been squeaky for months. Other than that, the gym is just great! With a large choice of equipment, it is easy to work on whatever you would like.

Place is gross and managements are beyond irresponsible. Would never recommend this gym to anyone. They don t reply to emails, cancelling your membership is incredibly hard and they make it as hard as possible. Even their website doesn t provide a corporate number. Avoid at all costs.

Trainer David Daoud is excellent. Great motivator.

Half the equipment is broken. You need a bathing suit for the bathroom. Almost every window leaks when it rains. The staff is chill so they get one star.

Only my second review ever. NYSC Oceanside s General Manager Eric Roberts. Unprofessional. Unwilling to help. Unwilling to solve a customer dispute. Hostile and aggressive communication style towards women. Unwilling to even listen and acknowledge there is a problem.

I called to cancel my husbands membership because we moved and joined TMPL which was closer to the new house and was accepting NYSC members at a deal in their buy out from NYSC. He should have said thanks for being a customer for 4 years, hope the move went well, Maybe one day you will come back to NYSC. But none of that was said. Instead he insulted my intelligence, my husbands intelligence, was rude, and the list goes on.

NYSC this one employee that needs to be evaluated as his corporate cultural approach in not in line with the recovering brand image and corporate culture you re putting into the market.

I hope the new owners see this. I hope they reach out to me. I hope they have a sit down with Eric Roberts.

Steer clear. Been a member of several gyms - this is by far the shadiest and most deceptive. The gym itself is average but dealing with the billing and nonsense is 100% not worth joining.

Staff very pleasant. Excellent exercise classes. Parking can be a challenge during peak times, such as Saturday mornings. Instructors top notch.

One of the dirtiest gyms I've ever been too. Equipment is always broken or missing something. Mens locker room is gross. I finally had it when I saw mens face shavings in the sink that sat there for days and days without anyone cleaning up. Bathroom floor is always flooded. Treadmills look like they havent been WIPED down in who knows how long. Dust balls everywhere on the gym floor. Staff is nice but is it that hard to take care of a gym? Im looking for a new gym to workout.
