Disgusting. We came by boat from Miami traveling around the key largo area. Called burgee bar in advance, asked if they had dockage for food. Not a single word was mentioned about having to be members of the ocean reef club in order to go here - in Miami and palm beach, visitors at on the water clubs are able to pull up and pay daily fees. Pulled up at 10:30, and were kicked out in the middle of the night. After calling back 2x during security telling us we had to leave, woman who originally answered at the restaurant continually hung up bc she knew she messed up. Whoever answered the phone at 7:30pm and 10:30pm should be FIRED not only for failing to mention or ask membership information which we had NO IDEA WAS A THING BECAUSE WE ARE FROM NORTH MIAMI AND NOT KEY LARGO, hence the reason for us CALLING IN THE FIRST PLACE TO CONFIRM DOCKAGE. I m completely disgusted by what happened. It s now 11pm, dark and we re trying to navigate a large boat which is dangerous in these shallow waters. Should we run aground or experience issues as a result of this mistake, we will pursue legal action.

I worked here for a few months and could not bear to complete my season. Working at ocean reef club is something like indentured servitude. I am a fun loving traveler who has worked in many bars and restaurants across the country with great experiences. ORC is like a Pleasantville where drunk billionaires can treat the men and women working there like dog poop on the bottom of their Sperrys with no accountability or repercussions whatsoever. If you d like an old woman to ring a literal bell at you for her 7th glass of wine before the sun sets, go work there. If you have any dignity and self respect, save yourself the trouble and go work in a mountain town for the winter where the elite tip well and treat you like a fellow human being.

Ocean Reef Club was a paradise. All the restaurants are top notch and the staff are always at there best. There are plenty of things to do here including, but not limited to: the pools at bucaneer island, the lagoon on bucaneer island, the Ocean Reef Club Cultural Center, the Ocean Reef Spa and much, much more.

Did not feel welcome at all.
We felt we were in a police state.
Residents were hostile, I didn t feel comfortable explaining my presence to residents at the club..
I would definitely not recommend it to my friends or business associates.

The food and staff are top notch. The Reef is extremely well maintained and everyone is always friendly. I've been coming here since I was a kid and not once have I had a bad experience.

To the people that are complaining about how restrictive it is....its a PRIVATE club and you have to be invited to get on. They are restrictive with their members because they only have the highest standards.

"Classism" at it's worse. Workers and contractors are subject to intense and unfair scrutiny ( Are the guests or members subject to the same standards??). The OR Administration is causing good people to lose their jobs. One look at the incredibly long lines to enter will tell you that something is very wrong. If anyone or any company would care to join me and BOYCOTT Ocean Reef please Email me. I will respond!!

Security officer Betancourt is a real unpleasant person to deal with. She is very cocky and treats you very unprofessional, she treats vendors like if they were dirt bags. She does not act like the Ocean Reef employee requirements and she should be investigated.

Great place for fishing. However, idiots when it comes to people at the front desk. Didn't put lobsters in freezer, as was asked, and instead put them in a cooler for 5 days.... Potentially lost 34 tails.

My family has been visiting ocean reef since 1961 and members since 1964. Every time I visit the staff is very nice and always accommodating. The food is great there. The ocean reef club is a truely unique way of life and I even refer to it as my heaven. Truly hope that I can someday become a memeber.

My wife and I went to the Ocean Reef Club for a 3 day meeting. We really enjoyed the first evening and were looking forward to the rest of our stay but had a family emergency at home. We informed the front desk and the girl working assured us it would not be a problem to check out early. At the time we were only charged for the one night.
They ended up charging us for all 3 nights and when I called and explained everything they said there was nothing they could do.
They could correct it and do what they said if they chose to do so. Very disappointed.

Closest I think i will ever be to feeling like I am in Prison. The nicest person working there was the woman at the gate. If you are not a member they treat you like peasants. It is also a very, very, very racist club. My wife and I were asked to leave a restaurant on our last night because she had a hole in her jeans, but just the night before when we had dinner there (Giannis) there was a table of members and 2 of the people in their party had holes in their Jean's. We will never be back. We left the resort EVERY day so we didn't have to spend a dime of our money there. 6 nights of prison is finally over.

THE two girls who work in the offices where they collect the passes to work in the club ARE EVIL EDUCATED! HEAVY! How is it possible that such an exclusive site, and of good reputation, could have that kind of employees without education ...

Let me just start off by saying that this club is literal paradise. I ve recently joined here as a member, and it has been the most wonderful experience. The staff is always so friendly, and will be there to meet all of your needs. I love the spa, and would recommend for anyone needing some downtime. The food there is amazing as well. One of my favorites is Roys Fiesta Bowl! It was so amazing that my friend and I wrote a script about it. Please, please, please, if you re thinking about going here, do it. It s amazing. Have a great day everyone!

I have been lucky enough to have been invited down a few times, by some friends who are members, and find the place to be one of those hidden paradises you normally only read about, the staff excel themselves and go out of their way to make sure your stay is unforgettable. It is so clean and well kept that my overall score is 12 ( yes 12 ) out of 10 for this place, i can't wait to go again................

The negative reviews on here are ridiculous and not to be even considered. This is a closed club that is exclusive to the wealthy...and for those wanting to visit, guess what you're not welcome unless you're being sponsored. This is not an open access club. As for people in the club checking credentials, never happened. I've been a member for 4 years and the membership are the nicest people around. There is a club within the club that you can't enter unless you are a member of that club. It's a golf club within. Honestly, if you don't like an extremely safe and well maintained proper club don't come visit. Actually, if it were my choosing I wouldn't let any guests in at all, except guests supervised by members. I only want people that will add to our membership. This place is amazing in every way and needs only a few improvements in a few areas.. an the wait list is like 3 years, btw.

You can t say enough about the community, outstanding is the simplest way to describe Ocean Reef. Yes I agree the gate staff is tough, however, I give them 5 stars for being that way for the safety of the residents and guests.
Great people, great food, I felt welcomed and can t wait to go back.

This is the nicest and most upscale private club community certainly in the country if not the world. The members are extremely friendly and out going. The amenities of the club are unparalleled with a fantastic marina, 3 fabulous golf courses, over a dozen restaurants, a private airport that accommodates jets, a cultural center with world class entertainers and top notch medical center. It is member owned and its own security team is vigilant to keep it safe. Most recent presidents and vice presidents have come to visit and the secret service has stated it is one of the most secure places they have served. The governors of the club keep updating and improving it constantly. Of course equity buy in and dues pricing are commensurate with the quality of the experience. Any negative reviews here are probably from contractors and service individuals who are working at the community and do not reflect the experience of members and their guests.

Based on the pictures this looks like paradise and a place I would want to live... but they are so damn restrictive by saying that only members can live on the club property and that membership is by invitation only.... and the fact that they have a strict dress code that doesn t really seem appropriate for a tropical resort-like community in Florida... and the fact that they ban cell phones in their restaurants... it s a damn shame....

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE/CUSTOMER SERVICE...iPad stolen...

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE/CUSTOMER SERVICE...iPad stolen out of room & no resolution.

I recently visited Ocean Reef Club for 2 nights to attend a work conference & stayed at the Inn. My experience did not end well. The grounds are immaculate & the club is gorgeous, however service ended poorly. As I was packing up to leave & putting things in my bag I noticed that my iPad & Beats headphones were missing. I got on my phone & went to the find my iPhone app (which also tracks iPad & computer) to see that my iPad was pending reset/erase . This made it clear to me that it had been taken as this was pending, meaning they didn t have my password to be able to clear everything off the device.

As we were leaving we stopped at desk to file a report & the security team came to get information from me. They let me know that they would start an investigation & be in touch. 2-3 days after we checked out & I made the report I received a call from the director of lodging letting me know he was aware of the issue & would contact me within the next day, two at the most to see what type of solution he could come up with. I never heard from him so I reached out & was told to contact the security team. After trying to contact them multiple times I was finally connected with someone who told me they had concluded their investigation & that as soon as the iPad was turned in they would call me to get it back to me...I explained that someone that stole the iPad is not going to later bring it back...he then told me to reach out to lodging to see if they could offer any compensation for the issue.

I tried to reach lodging multiple times & was ignored. Finally sent an email that was pleasant, however let them know that I was frustrated. 3-4 days after I got a call from lodging & was told they weren t going to resolve the issue, so I explained I would be sharing my experience.

It is unacceptable for something like this to happen at such an affluent place & then for them to not recognize the issue or correct it. I gave them ample opportunities to make things right & they were not interested. I would have loved to return, however that will not be happening after this experience.

Staff is 5 star as well as Ocean Reef Club, but some of the residents were extremely rude and unwelcoming. The residents would walk up to your unit and ask for your credentials(what are you doing here? I want to see your parking slip on dashboard!, etc), and they werent even staff, which was awkward. That's only con about the place, and thats why I gave it 4 stars. Highly recommend ORC to anyone that wants to experience an amazing weekend, with an amazing staff.

We arrived in the evening, after a rough passage from Key West. In KW We had removed all the food onboard the boat, because the plan was to leave the boat at ORYC. I call ahead to make sure the crew & I would be able to have dinner upon arrival, I was told yes. After arrival we headed over to the Club to get dinner. We were then informed that they wouldn't accept Cash or Credit cards, this was news to us, we explained our situation & were told that it was our problem.
We asked if we could get food to go & we'd eat on our boat, we were refused again. We ask for advice they said go to Denny's on Key Largo, BUT we would not be allowed to reenter until "office hours in the AM". We were not rude, dirty, drunk or anything but polite. Sadly we were not treated the same way. I have been a professional boat Captain for 27 years & by far this is the rudest marina complex I have ever encountered. I will continue to relay this poor experience to everyone in the boating community

I'm sure members and residents love the Ocean Reef...

I'm sure members and residents love the Ocean Reef Club. First off we stayed 6 nights and drove all the way from Texas. We brought a very small box trailor with our jet ski in it. They had us park it in the business center but then gave us a citation on it which read over stayed welcome. Not only did it hurt our feelings but we parked it where they told us! Our first night our a.c. did not work and it wasnt repaired until the next morning. We didnt even complain, but we were givin a bottle of wine and cheese spread for sweating through our first night. My main complaint is every security guard we encountered when entering the club was extremely rude, never smiled, and never said your welcome when we thanked them. One lady guard we encountered literally frowned and made us feel extremely unwelcome. You can't miss her because her attitude was atrocious every time. It was also strange how the guy at the tackle shop was really nice every time we went in until there was a member in the store at the same time. Then all of a sudden he was very smug to my kids. The place is beautiful no doubt, but watch out for the salt water crocs lurking around also. We went paddle boarding and snorkeling in the water and three nights later we saw a 15 foot salt water croc snatch a shark that was being caught right in the fishing village. There are no signs warning about any crocs! I would give 5 stars for all the maintenance help. The islanders that are on premises as maids, maintenance workers, waiters, etc. were all lovely and extremely hospitable, but I wasn't impressed with most of the other employees especially the guards which are the first and last impression. I'm sure the residents and members are never treated so poorly, but they also have a tag showing that they are members. I would definitely choose to stay elsewhere and be treated as an equal. It doesn't seem like residents like the resort guest either. I like to feel welcome when I go on vacation and my family felt the opposite.
