Gemeente Amstelveen Review

I have just been diagnosed with autism (after a burnout) and now follow therapy. I therefore receive a temporary allowance from the municipality of amstelveen. If you receive a benefit you may not vlog, not sit on instagram and especially not live. If you do, you must prepare for everything you do, and everything you put on it, analyzed by their word and used against you. They will follow everything you put on social media and they will bring that to the surface in every conversation. Even if you do this to help other (autistic) people, they will find things to bring you down.
The municipality of Amstelveen is far right as far as I am concerned and does not look at the potential of people to help them further, but especially wants to tackle them with rules. Pity.

I had an apt to renew my passport and called because I would be late due to a flat tire. Thewoman on the phone was very friendly but when I got to reception,I was spoken to by two girls, literally seemed not older than 20, who when I spoke in english, stared me down and asked 'but its for a Dutch passport I don't' understand you want to make an appointment? I said yes, a Dutch passport ( clearly didn't understand English) then proceeded say well why do you speak English and said 'Ik moet Nederlands met je praten! Je hebt Nederlandse pasport maar speekt geen Nederlands?!' I've never felt more discriminated in my life and when I said yes, and what is the problem her colleague says 'Een beetje respect hoor'. I can't believe I was discriminated and s0oken to this way, we are living in 2019 and the world is full of expats living al around who have all kinds of mixed Nationalities. I then went to the desk where a guy would help me further and he also said, 'so you have a Dutch passport but speak no Dutch?' I just replied with, yes I understand but don't speak very well if there a problem with this because you're colleague also made an issue about this?' Next time I visit, if i am treated this way again I will lodge an official discrimination complaint, this is something which should embarrass them being a governmental entity which should be there to help not criticize!

I made an appointment for passport renewal. I arrived half an hour earlier, reported to the reception who changed my appointment on the spot, telling me that I could probably be finished in 15 minutes. And indeed... And two days afterwards I received a text message, telling me that my passport was ready for pick up. Normal SLA is 5 working days, so I am delighted...

The bad example!
I pass by the town hall every morning and around 6:45 am several cars are stationary at the parking lot.
The occupants apparently cannot enter yet and are afraid of getting cold in the car, I assume.
Unfortunately, idling engines are very polluting because the catalyst does not work well at idling speed.
Blowing a lot of CO2 and other debris into the air for nothing, very bad example, I did not expect from municipal employees, so we will of course never achieve the climate targets ...
"Funny" that a number of electric cars are also being charged on the same parking lot, nicely cancels each other :-)

One of the best Gementee in Netherlands, i ever visited. Very friendly staff, walk-in is possible for most of things, good no of staff & moreover information is provided in your preferred language.

Very rude lady on the phone at the call center, she couldn't answer my question and said that she doesn't have to answer. It is actually her official job to know this information. What's the point of hiring these people?!

Passport renewal went smoothly! Made an online appointment and it is exactly up to the agreed time. After 2 days I already received a text message that the passport was ready. Again made an online appointment and that day I was outside again after 5 minutes

What an opening times. If you work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., you cannot go to the municipality spontaneously in the evening hours. If you do make an appointment on Thursday evening, you can only go if there is a place available. If you are unlucky, the only time is at 4.30 p.m.
So it comes down to that you have to ask your employer freely if you have to go to the town hall, but not after 3.30 pm (Friday at 12.30 pm) because then they will be closed. Pfff real officials.

I was helped by a girl who was constantly sucking and biting her lip (?), Which led to weird tjuri sounds. When she realized that I noticed this, she stopped it. Furthermore, it was very strange that she asked if it was a recent passport photo that I had taken with me, since I had the photo taken a day before. The soulless stare of this girl only reinforces my stereotypical image of civil servants (read: easy money snoops). I would like to put myself in the shoes of this girl so that I can better understand her uninteresting attitude. But I do not want and can not imagine what kind of good attitude she gives people who come with a serious problem.
