A great place to take your family. The zoo is always well kept and is constantly expanding or upgrading. Wild turkeys and peacocks in the area. It is in the Oakland Hills, so be prepared for some steep climbs if you have a stroller or wheelchair.

My wife and I were looking at the Elephants and these two guys driving around on a golf cart came and yelled at us saying the zoo was closed however on a positive note the lady selling tickets at the front entrance this past Sunday was very nice. We think some of your people need to take a lesson in politeness to guests. We would have been happy to leave. Your employees don't need to be rude.

I liked the zoo. Lots of animals. I like the compact layout compared to San Francisco zoo. It does need some repairs like in the room where the frogs and turtles are at. It smells moldy and you can see the damaged walls.

Good zoo to do lot of other activities. Number of different animals. Went there with 2 years old grand child. At times felt that animals were at little distance but that may be good for them. Do take cable car ride up top to visit a nice restaurant.

Wonderful place for the whole family to go explore...

Wonderful place for the whole family to go explore, learn, and have fun together. There is the zoo, the panoramic gondola ride in which you can see the Bay Area (strollers and wheel chair friendly), and Adventure Landing (Kiddy amusement park for toddlers to 8 year olds).

Can easily see and experience the zoo and Adventure Landing in less than 6 hours.

#LetsGuide Tip: Be sure to ride the gondola as part of your experience, the panoramic Bay Area views are spectacular - can see all of the East Bay, Oakland Airport, San Francisco, etc. there are bears, mountain lions, bald eagles, etc. to see, a cafeteria with self serve outdoor dining area a multimillion dollar view, and a zip line for kids to enjoy.

The zoo itself is hilly (many rolling hills) so if you are pushing a stroller or wheel chair it can be a workout.

Restrooms have diaper changing tables. Lots of outdoor dining areas that you can either purchase food or bring your own and eat.

Besides zoo ticket costs, parking cost is $10/car.

During the week, the place is filled with school groups and summer camp attendees besides families. There are certain areas where there can be a lot of kids in one place because of this.

Second time we come here from San Jose & it s closed! We looked online before we came and it said open, we get here and security says it s closed! Disappointing, please call before you decide to go to the Zoo.

I was so surprised at how awesome this zoo is. I didn't expected so my different animals and other species. It was a beautiful day and A LOT of people. I highly encourage you to visit. The admission is $20+. There aren't enough water fountains and only a few food stands. Take your lunch and plenty of water.

I love this place so much more since the California addition. We got a family Membership just to ride the gondola up top. The kids have spent over an hour just up there exploring. It's still a bit nostalgic, too so I'm glad I can share this place with my kids.

Fun place and the gondolas are awesome. Animals are great but the walking has lots of hills so be ready for that. The food even at the top is meh. The food down at the main entrance food place is awful, absolutely terrible. In the Bay Area you d think they could do better.

Great zoo for kids/families or adults. Not a bazillion animals, but nice backdrop and enclosures for the ones they have. Love the new zip line above for kids. Also like the California exhibit up there too. Cafe food good as well.

Been going here since I was a baby! Still best zoo gone to a few and doesn't compare ( including SF zoo ). Still the best zoo, great layout, friendly people and wonderful selection of wild animals!

Been enjoying this zoo since the kids were little...we still love coming here and can't wait for the new expansion! Bring sun protection on hot days the shade can be hard to find in some spots.

Great zoo, new gondola is amazing! There are a lot of hills, so it's moderately strenuous to spend the day there. Apart from the zoo (separate, but adjoining) is a small amusement park for younger kids. The little train is very cool, as it enters the zoo and gives an up close view of some of the Australian animals as well as beautiful views of the whole Bay Area (on a clear day). Views from the new gondola station are great too, but it gets windy up there, so bring a jacket! Hope this helps you plan your visit.

A wide variety of exibits with plenty of fun areas for kids and interesting locations for adults, it's fun for all ages. There is a fantastic sky-lift and another under construction, the new one will be even more extensive. There is also a restaurant on a tower being built.

Overall great zoo! Nice and spacious, lots of little spots for tots to play such as, the lily pad walk, and otter slide by the crocs, and the spider web by the Bug House. Good selection of food at the cafe. Cost was a little high, however, it goes to a worthy cause so I would expect to pay a little more. Staff were all very nice and informative. Bears were a big hit and the giraffes. Loved the gondola ride up to the top.

Over crowded.

Over crowded.
They have sold too many memberships without keeping track of how many people will come on a daily basis.
Even for members it s hard to find parking or get a decent look at any animals.

Rides are mostly out of order.
Most employees are not motivated to help people. They are just giving rude answers like don t ask me why the ride is down for 3 months. I m not the CEO .

Food is pathetic. Barely anything is fresh

So not very often I would make a post like this but you guys deserve top ratings and I truly believe that the cost to enter the zoo right now is way too little it should be more.... Beautiful space beautiful animals what can I say not to mention the Skyride just fantastic.

It's only held in December, there is a gondola ride you must take, you can see the whole Bay area and it is a fantastic sight plus there is an eatery and bathrooms for your convenience at the top of the mountain, A must see and a great adventure for all.
