Great family place -- kids love the animals, all seems clean and well-treated, and the mini-amusement park next door is always a hit. Staff is great too -- Jeff Patterson, an EMT and fix-it guy there, helped jump-start our car one day and gave our daughter some extra hand stamps she was begging for the other day. Everyone cares!

Great entertainment for any age group. The new predator exhibit up on the hill from the gondola seems a little sparse but should improve with time. Would highly recommend this zoo as opposed to the SF zoo.

It is a great place to get your walking in. It is small inclines in areas. The animals look good. Some areas are overgrown with bamboo so you can't see the animals very well. This is likely for the animals sake. The sky tram thing they are building looks like it will be great as long as they keep the glass clean. The only animal that seemed not happy was the Sun Bear. I think this a great zoo with lots of potential for greatness. I gave 4 stars cause there is always room to be great.

What beautiful animals are preserved very well by the chubby lions, the hyenas presiosa. The best area is where the wolves, bears, huge buffalo pumas and beautiful view in front of the restaurant.

The Oakland Zoo has really come a long way! Don't expect the caged monkeys in the parking lot! The Oakland Zoo has really taken steps to create a more "natural" environment. The enclosed gandala up to the "California Area" is a nice alternative to the ski lift that's older than my parents. You don't have to pay zoo admission to get into the kiddie land, but be prepared to pay for ride tickets. In the end a zoo is a zoo. They really aren't that great for anyone and most of the animals are given literal trash to play with. Gatorade bottles do not appear in the wild to entertain anyone! My 2 year old enjoyed herself though, so whatever.

I love this zoo! I think they did a wonderful job in creating this zoo. It is clean and well-organized. As someone who worries about the animals and zoochosis, I think the animals here seem well taken care of and have generally large enclosures. I really enjoyed the new gondola ride to the top of the zoo! I had a great time with my family here.

I would have given this zoo 5 stars but the staff arent very happy to be there. Most of the staff look bored and are on their phones. The facilities are SPOTLESS and the gondolas are SO MUCH FUN!!! The only downside to my day at the Oakland Zoo was the staff. Get some stuff that are happy to be there and enjoy their job!!

I wanted to go to Africa for my 70th birthday, but my wife only stays in 4 and 5 star hotels these days. So instead, since we were in Frisco, my daughter and Scarlett, our new grand daughter, took us to the next best thing: the Oakland Zoo. All the usual suspects were there in the African Savannah: lions, tigers, elephants , zebras and giraffes. We had a great time and saved about $20,000.Mon

The Oakland Zoo is nice, but Indo wish some of the animals had larger areas. There are rides for the children in adventure landing that cost a little extra, but not to much. Overall I recommend going a few time.

The Animals are always great and the sky tram has some fantastic views. The food is school lunch quality however and there seems to be garbage everywhere. Great if you love the zoo but given the choice I would go to the SF zoo.

Amazing. The animals looked healthy and treated well. Gondola was nice, unfortunately the new area of the zoo (at top of gondola ride) wasn't open til the next day. Grandson who is 9, loved it and wrote this review.

One of the best zoos I have been to. The zoo is not too big or too small for you to cover. Just the right size for you to cover in less than a day. All animals look like they are taken care of pretty well. The new California trail features wolves, Jaguar, bears and American bison. Amazing zoo definitely worth a visit.

This is a great place to bring your kids. They have so many animals and if you come in the morning they are usually active. The gondola ride to the top is also very good as you get the view of the bay. And the ride is free! You'll get to see the bald eagle, wolves, jaguar, bears and mountain lions. This is a fun place for the entire family!

What a wonderful place to spend the day! Take a casual stroll and enjoy the wide array of animals that are housed here. Plenty of places to sit and take a break or have a snack. The grounds are nicely kept and the exhibits are designed with the animals in mind.

Kids really liked the zoo. The zoo has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are very courteous and helpful. It is great place and we plan on definitely going again. I didn't give 5 stars because I felt the train ride to the "Australian section" wasn't worth the time standing in line or the fare cost. The train ride itself was fun however it was too short and the Australian attraction itself was few and far and in between.

I've been to quite a few zoos over many states and even in different countries, and I have to say the Oakland Zoo is my favorite. The animals just seem happy. I always have good sightings of lions, tigers, elephants, hyenas, and lemurs. Now, with the new California Trail it's even better. I was so impressed on our recent visit about the areas for the grizzly bears, mountain lions, wolves, jaguar, and bison. I love how the walkways at this Zoo wind around with all the trees and through the hillsides. It never seems crowded because it's so spread out. There really is something for everyone at this zoo, highly recommended.

Although several areas were still closed where social distancing is not possible, we were still able to enjoy nearly all of the zoo. Staff were plentiful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Habitats looked so nice I could live there. And the burger and fries at the cafe were awesome. The hills can be a bit steep for mobility challenged patrons, but there are plenty of benches and lots of shade to rest a bit. The animals looked happy and healthy with many enrichment activities and areas for them.

Nice spacious zoo with petting and wild animals. Lots of rides for kids. Giving 4 stars only as the food options were too bad. Nothing to eat in the zoo. Not even coffee or tea. Just soda churros and pizza. Great zoo wish they had some good food.
