I was in this facility for 22 days to rehab from fractured bones. Couldn t walk...by the third day of therapy, I was walking again. The food is almost a five star restaurant. The head of the dining room should be applauded. He will get you anything you request. The facility is lovely..everything you could need..hair salon..rehab equipment.. The staff is all very caring and compassionate. The physical rehab section led by Jeff is A-One. Best in the business..and very kind and outstandingly capable. They had me walking in 3 days. I needed a walker..but when I left..I could walk out of there without assistance. I can t say enough about how wonderful and skilled that staff is. Jeff sets the tone and works with each patient to develop an individual plan for their specific needs. No place is perfect...and complaints are to be expected..but they are handled right away. Having been in the Healthcare field for over 30 years...I can say that I would highly recommend it. I thank them all very much for my care!

Nice place for patients but bouncing payroll checks and then not paying staff,,, you can't keep good staff that way,,, then who is going to provide that care... where is the money NuVista????
My mom was in extreme pain. We called the nurse desk and they said they would be bringing her pain medication immediately. 45 minutes later the medication has not been delivered. I go to the nurse desk and there were 8 people talking and joking. My mom in excruciating pain and the whole Sunday afternoon shift being lazy. I dont want to paint everybody with the same brush. However this place cost almost 600.00 a day! Totally unacceptable.
Just like I complained above two days ago. To be fair I also have to post the positive things that resulted out of my complaint. The CEO of New Vista Donna Lee contacted me the next day! She met with me and with Linda the Chief Nursing Officer and immediately had a meeting with all the staff in the facility and addressed our issue. Just a fantastic response. Also Tom the Dining Room Manager is amazing at his job. The center has exceptional employees that go far and beyond their call of duty. People like Amy, Amanda, Tandra, Ashley, Marisol, Justin and sooooo many others. I know I complained about that shift however the facility as a whole is top notch. Always a few bad apples anywhere you go! Thanks to everyone. Hector Santana.
Great facility (more like a nice hotel instead of a cold hospital setting) and staff. The physical therapists here are professional and dedicated. My therapist Dawn worked with me every day for two to three hours and in a short time I was able to walk and perform many of the tasks I had lost after the operation including the ability to navigate stairs.
The nurses and CNAs are empathetic and provide a level of care I haven't seen in other institutions. A special shout out to Ashley, Jamie, Kevin, Ana, and Michael. They made my stay comfortable and saw to it that the littlest thing I needed was done. On days that I felt I just couldn't go on they were there to help me get past my depression and keep trying.
Not once did I ever hear a staff member say oh that's not my job. Instead they would jump in to help the patient. From the employees in the dining hall to the administrative staff. Speaking of the dining hall the food was excellent. A true surprise and a hundred times better than the usual hospital fare.
If I ever need to have rehab again or if I know anyone who does I would highly recommend NuVista.
This is a review of communications with the facility - in the end I decided against going there.
I was given very conflicting information about coming there - my insurance covered me, then it didn't. They would take me on a wound vac and on IV antibiotics, then they wouldn't.
They would not cover my pain medication or blood thinning medication, it was too expensive. In the end they would not accept me if I was placed on IV antibiotics or a wound vac. Luckily I had neither.
This is a FOR PROFIT rehab center. It is about making money for them. If your care requires too much cost and they will not make money off of you, they will refuse to accept admission. Be forewarned. The bottom line for them is money, care is secondary to what they can collect financially for your stay.
My mom spent 2 weeks here for physical therapy only. She was treated like an invalent. All staff seemed to think she could get up and walk by herself when clearly she couldn't . If I wasn't there she would of peed her pants many times waiting on them to come. She would of never eaten either as they just forgot her in her room. Oh AND she brought bed bugs home, with her that will cost a ton to get rid of! Disgusting!
My mother in law is currently a patient there with a broken hip. This week when I stopped in to see her, she seemed a little agitated. I asked her what I could do and she said "I've been waiting 25 minutes for someone to help me to the bathroom." It only gets worse from there and she is only on her 6th day. 8/2 update: From One Star to Two Stars. I was asked by management to have a meeting and this should be done today. My mother in law is being attended to now in a manner that is expected. I see that they do read these reviews and take them seriously. I hope that they also continue to take their patients seriously so I am able to change this from One Star to Five Stars. Thank you for giving her better care - please continue. They also fixed the issue with her a/c. Luis was diligent about finding the issue and it is much more comfortable in her room now. Thank you, Luis!
Well it's been 4 years ago that my Dad stayed at this facility!!! YOUR CUSTOMER as you refer to the patients as. Long story short I took care of my Dad for 2 years and keep his legs clean and FREE of infection. He was in this facility and I asked EVERYDAY "Can you PLEASE change his bandages?" The reply for a week was "WE NEED DOCTORS ORDERS." Within one week of having wet bandages on his legs an intern came and said his leg is infected!!! I went crazy!!! I was so UPSET! I wanted to file a complaint! Well the director at the time Mike had other ideas. He called the Sheriff on me and wanted me locked up under the BAKERS ACT! Yep that's correct. How ever coming from a law enforcement family he didn't succeed. So he stoooped so low as to put a NO TRESSPASSING in effect. That was the last time I was able to see my Dad! Other then getting my belonging out with an escort from the Sheriff. Within 2 months my Dad passed away at that facility. I made a PROMISS to my Dad that I wouldn't leave him. I have NEVER got over NOT being by my Dad's side! I filed many complaints with everyone I could get a hold of. At the time my Dad was in there a lady across the hall another CUSTOMER said her leg got infected there too. She was meeting with a social worker that day. After reading all the complaints by Customers and employees I felt the need to post about the infections so you keep an eye on your loved one cause it's just another CUSTOMER to them. Sad but TRUE! God works in mysterious ways! RIP POPS I MISS YOU EVERYDAY!!! I have a heartache that won't go away. How would you like it if someone put a no trespassing on YOU?
The rest why I gave 2 stars is because every single time me or my mother or uncle go see my grandma we get kicked out of the donning room when there is many family or many chairs. We don't stay long at all only like 30 mins or so and your gonna say you can sit in there because it's for patients only. I've worked at many nursing homes and they encourage family to visit and be with them when they eat. I don't see what the big problem is when only we get kicked out for some reason. It's not like we all go in at one time no it would be me and my 2year old son only and we get kicked out by Holly. I told her straight I only come once in a blue moon because I live so far and you kick me and my son out while there was over 20 chairs for you patient. It's sad that my grandma is loading her memory and you treat patients family like nothing.
I believe in balance so I'll say 3 positive things: it's nice looking, the staff were very kind/caring in how they treated Mom & Mom said the food was good. But that's it. At least twice Mom didn't get a shower in over a week, despite Lutz Rehab's twice/week shower schedules (Wed. & Sat.). The first time almost 2 weeks went by & when I was there on Sat. I asked the nurse why. She then asked an aide do you know how to work the shower & the aide said no. I was about to say get her in the bathroom & I'd do it when finally they found an aide to do it. The second time Mom missed the Wed. shower due to being at a doctor's office. Then Sat. she wasn't showered so it was now over a week since she'd showered. When I called that Mon. & asked the nurse she said "let me check the book" then told me there was nothing written there & she hadn't worked Sat. so she didn't know. I was angry & said so, especially since Mom has had UTIs that actually led to hospitalization so lack of proper hygiene was concerning. Finally she offered to get Mom showered that night, Mon. Then Wed. THEY DIDN'T SHOWER HER again! No reason given! Every time they miss a shower they put her at risk for another UTI & another hospitalization.
Mom wore a large clam-shell brace after major spinal surgery for part of her stay. Sitting up in it was very uncomfortable. She was supposed to be up for 1 or 2 hours at a time, but on 2 occasions they left her sitting in a wheelchair by her bed for 3+ hours. This despite her hitting the call button many times for help getting into bed. They also left her in a wheelchair sitting outside the dining room after meals for extended periods of time with no one taking her back into her room. She had no way to call staff for assistance & had to just sit there until someone finally got around to moving her.
We had to do a 24 hour urine collection to take to her oncologist. I told them a week in advance that she needed to be catheterized because she is incontinent. I confirmed multiple times that instructions were in the system. But they didn't do it on schedule claiming they needed a doctor's order. When I asked why no one TOLD me this, I got no answer. I finally spoke with nurse Emily who eventually got it done & finally catheterized her 23 hours before we were picking her up to take her & the urine specimen to the doctor. When I showed up that next morning at first they wouldn't remove the catheter because the order was for 24 hours & it had only been 23!! I had to insist.
We had an appointment for chemo at a Cancer Center. I told Social Services at Lutz Rehab & 2 different nurses a week in advance & made arrangements for wheelchair transport. At 4 pm the NIGHT BEFORE I got a call from Bonnie & Matt who said Mom needed a private room after her chemo & they didn't have one, so they had CANCELLED her appointment & her transport! They claimed they weren t told she was having chemo. As I stated, I told at least 3 people at least a week in advance.
When Mom was discharged, they asked me to make transport arrangements to pick her up after 2, which I did. The pickup time was set for between 2:50 - 3:20 pm. I told Lutz Rehab of the time & Social Services there told me they d make arrangements for her permanent wheelchair/oxygen to be delivered prior to discharge. The MORNING OF discharge Taquoia called to tell me the oxygen/wheelchair would be delivered close to 4 pm. When I reminded her of the transport pick up time she said no the pickup time was 4. I called the transport company and was told Nina at Lutz Rehab had changed the time to 4 WITHOUT checking with me! I picked the time so Mom would be home before end of day & I could meet her at Lutz Rehab to get all her stuff & still get home in time for a 5 pm work conference call. Making changes without consulting me messed everything up! Then when she was released to her assisted living facility the discharge notes didn't match the meds list they provided, which didn't match the stack of prescriptions they gave us!
The staff is all very nice, but the care definitely sub-optimal.
NO BUENO!! Rude night time staff seems like there here to get money but not earn it! Bad attitude when we asked for water for my dad and for help to go to rest room , the visit from doctor was a joke my dad was in bathroom and said he would be back and never came back its obvious this is another scam type place just another way to suck the ins system out of money its a shame because our love ones depend on these services but dont recieve them !!! Im sure the doctor got paid for the 1 visit he never gave to my father in 3 days !!! Word of advice THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING YOUR LOVED 1 HERE!!!!!!!! They should be ashamed period point blank!!!!!
I have never seen so many complaints, I thought the people posting were at some other facility. As a retired nurse I didn't expect I was going to Trump Tower for rehab but I was most pleasantly surprised by Nu Vista. The place is very clean and the staff mainly are very pleasant. Medications were given on time, my dressings were changed everyday. The physical therapists are wonderful even when you don't feel like going they encourage you to go. They were all extremely professional and very pleasant. The food was very good and the dining room staff went above and beyond their duties to see that you were satisfied. I saw many of the waiters helping patients with their food. I have seen many other nursing homes I hope the complainers never end up in one of those. Thank You Nu Vista for a pleasant stay
Horrible.Night staff very rude and ignore patients needs. Friend of mine was there two weeks without a bath or shower I spent 14 hrs a day with him and witnessed Bad attitudes from the Nurses and aides
Dad was again not feeling well so he was once again put in the hospital where he stayed for almost a week. The Doctors suggested a transfer to a rehabilitation center. So he was sent to NuVista Living on Dale Mabry for three days. The nursing staff neglected Dad he became Oxygen deprived, and completely dehydrated. These so called Healthcare providers could not simply even hook up his C-pap and could have potentially put him into cardiac arrest. He is resting comfortably tonight back at the hospital with mom overseeing everything. UNBELIEVEABLE!! You all should have you license suspended and turned in to the powers that be. SHAME ON YOU...i pray others read this post and think twice before the put their loved ones in this facility.
My mother had to stay at NuVista to build her strength up before returning to her Assisted Living Facility. We arrived at 3:30 pm to a rude and condescending male nurse who made my mother (age 86) feel threatened. The admission went rough because the floor nurse kept demanding paperwork from the hospital that we did not have. It was eventually discovered that the hospital faxed the information to the front fax machine and office did not forward the paperwork to the nurses station. The nurses were not interested in listening to what we had to say regarding my mother's health.
At 8pm when I was leaving, I told the rude nurse that my mother was scared and agitated. All he did was shrug his shoulders.
We were not provided any tour or information on the facility. Did not receive any activities sheet until the third day. On the second day when signing paperwork with admissions, we were promised a tour at 1pm, but the lady never came back.
The rehab folks are great. If your not doing rehab, then you are sitting in your room with nothing but a tv. The tv requires you to hold a speaker up to your ear to hear. Additionally most rooms are not private.
I do not recommend NuVista.
Because of the attitude of a couple nurses and techs, we do not recommend NuVista.
My Father in Law, spent some time here after back surgery, the staff was very helpful, big shout out to Nurse Glen, he was amazing with keeping us informed, and he spent one on one time with him.
Staff kind and considerate. Had a couple issues that were taken of immediately once management was made aware. Rehab is hard but effective. The food is very good and the staff in the dining area are top notch.
I worked at this facility. The concept was lovely but the problem was that the paychecks were, on more than one occasion during my short time there, inconsistent with availability of funds, being frozen and unable to be cashed for 10 days. (I kept the email thread in the event of necessity since check fraud is not a good thing). Now, the Tampa facility has been sold and will change hands. Ask as many questions as possible before admitting a loved one. During the time that I worked in Lutz, the facility was short staffed consistently. The beds did not have alarms and many times, there were falls. It was and is a very unfortunate situation for employees and patients.
I was sent to Nu Vista Dell Mabry location. It was so Wonderful after being in a Hospital for two months. The one on one care was so welcomed. The Private room was so Beautiful and much needed for what I was recovering from. I had surgery to remove a Cancerous Tumor and the privacy was comforting for my issues at hand. The nursing Staff for the most part was very nice and attentive. I say that because as usual you always run into one or two who are not so nice. The facility had the Rehab that I needed to get back to where I was before the full three months on my back. The Therapists were Wonderful and worked everyday with me. Not pushy at all. The fact that I was having so many issues, they allowed my meals to come to my room. That is a No No, they want you to go to the Dinning Room. I tried once, but although it is nice, it was not for me at that time of my issues. I did better on my time and eating in my room at my pace. If ever I had to go to Nu Vista again, I would go with no Hesitation. The meals are Great, but no Salt and or Pepper is supplied so some like myself needed to have a Family member bring some from home. I was not restricted on salt or pepper in my diet. It is a nice quiet place for a wonderful recovery. I Highly Recommend the Facility. It actually looks like a High end Hotel. You won't be Disappointed. Thank You Nu Vista for all you helped me accomplish in my much need recovery.
