My son attends Northside and it's one of the best schools for teens with special needs. His teacher Dave is so attentive and willing to work with my son especially with his behaviors.

I love a place, where people and students treat each other like family. The principal, goes beyond bandries for students.
Students here with Down syndrome and disabilities are treated worse than animals. Just because these children have Down syndrome does not mean it is alright to send them to other places and universities to change their trash bags and do what the janitors are paid for . These are young children that should be taught kindly and not disrespected in anyway. I am not at all happy with the way a school is using their disability as a way to get tasks done for free. Very disgusting
This is a high school for special needs students. The purpose of this specialized school is to help the students be as independent as their needs allow. A previous poster commented that the students were forced to pickup garbage at NEIU. What actually was occurring was that they were being taught how to recycle and work as a team to complete coordinated tasks. The students are also taken to the nearby supermarket where they learn to shop, and to gain experience with the various jobs that people are hired to do. You might have seen some of their graduates with jobs as baggers. Not a glamorous job for most, but to them it's a great source of pride and they do it with enthusiasm. This school is important for these students who would otherwise be warehoused in non-specialized high schools in the system. When you see these groups at NEIU, tell them they're doing a great job. You'll be rewarded with some of the biggest smiles you've ever experienced. It's a top-notch and much needed institution.
I am at teacher at Northside Learning Center. It is an exceptional school for high school age students with cognitive disabilities. I teach community based yoga, intro to aquatics, and community based vocational skills. The students and staff are the best!
Great place that goes above and beyond in making sure their students are educated but are also prepared for their future
