Just adopted a dog on my 3rd visit. The staff was extremely helpful in counseling me about a good match. My new best friend is a 7 year old terrier mix and very well behaved. He is a real hit with the kids in the neighborhood.

We've been here a few times and tried to find a match. Their approval process is arcane, you cannot get a straight answer without filling out an application, waiting an hour or more, then speaking with an adoption counselor. Huge waste of time.

Also, some of the volunteers need to get a clue on how to speak & work with potential adopters. There's a great degree of arrogance and disregard in the way they respond to legitimate questions.

The MSPCA at Nevins Farm or Angell are far more accommodating and helpful. Look there first.

They are amazing here!! Everyone is so friendly & they take such great care of all the dogs & kitties they take in! We adopted our amazing dog, Tucker, 4 years ago - they made the process so smooth & made sure we picked the right dog for us. He is the love of our life - so grateful for everything they've done & continue to do for animals in need!! We try to bring in donations at least a few times a year.
PLEASE, ADOPT DON'T SHOP!!

Todays date : Sunday March 26, 2017. First off i will say that this shelter is very clean and well organized for the animals. As far as trying to adopt, terrible! My family and I wanted to have the chance and adopt a dog for our first time. We are very well experienced with animals especially dogs. We have 2 yorkies and i have a 2 year old daughter who is great with our dogs and wanted to adopted a 3rd dog for our family. We have our own house, fenced in yard, but more importantly this dog would of had a loving caring home with both my parents home everyday while I work so the dog would barely be left alone. I seen a 3 month old lab who my family and i instantly fell in love with and was great around my 2 year old daughter. Not only did we have to wait about an hour-hour and a half for a "counselor" We also had a 2-3 hour drive there for them to tell us that if we had dogs that we would have to bring our dogs which i had called the previous day and they did not mention i had to bring my dogs even though i told the staff member over the phone that i had 2 dogs. So we had to drive back another 2 hours and drive back another 2-3 hours which literally took up our whole day of driving back n fourth, waited another 15 mins for someone to get the dog so he could meet with my 2 yorkies, brought him into the room we were in and literally not even 2 minutes later one of the staff members came in the room and told us that an unfortunate problem came up and that all the puppies there had a virus, which wouldnt affect older dogs or humans, and rushed the puppy out of our room telling all the staff and people there that ALL puppies CAN NOT BE RELEASED FOR 2 WEEKS. I believe they only did that because one of my yorkies was barking, which OFCOURSE he would because hes a dog! At first they were concerned that the Lab puppy would go after our dogs, which he did not, my female yorkie was great but my male just barked. Didn't even give us a full 5 mins with the dogs together or asked if we wanted to see another dog! For being animal experts they don't understand that dogs can be a little vocal with seeing and meeting different people and an animal? I know for 100% that our dogs would have got along great at home. Here's the other kicker too, the next day i called, which is today, i talked to a staff member acting as if it is my first time calling about them asking if they had puppies and they said yes and i asked if i was to stop by would i be able to bring one home today if everything went well with the adoption process and they said yes, but that i might be out of luck because there was alot of people there today and that all the puppies might be gone! When i heard that i was extremely upset because i really wanted to do the right thing and give another dog a 2nd chance in life and like i said i instantly fell in love with that lab, his name is Ranger. It would of been alot better if they actually TOLD THE TRUTH to our face instead of making up so many lies, it was unbelievable! Never had such a terrible experience even though they knew what they were doing all along. No body knows what they are doing there. My father who was there with me also called back after i told him i called and they told me all the puppies were fine, they told him all the puppies were fine as well until he said who he was and what happened to us the previous day and they could not give my father a straight answer still! You know, all these shelters encourage you to adopt and they make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to. I just don't understand, they didn't even give us and my dogs a chance even though we met all the right criterias. I will take this further to the owner. I called today to get the 2 womans name who worked there and told my sitution and they hung up on me. I completely understand and will always want the animals to be healthy but Communication and attitudes there is very poor, don't get me wrong there were some great staff members there but the 2 I dealt with weren't. It was a different story with every person I talked to.

Do not ignore, I work 22 hours a week and brought my dog-sitter with me, I only have "1" day shift I work!!! My 16 yr. Old is home the 2 night shifts!!! Every review is important!!!

I was completely disappointed about their adoption agencies. I went with my children, my lease looking to adopt a new puppy, after looking at a yellow lab puppy who was not the friendliest, I was refused to see the brother, 2 were left out of 12 puppies... because I had a 3 year old! I then asked to see a couple of about 5 hound mixed puppies, after calling my landlord and finding out that I was the only tenant renting a single home house with a fenced in yard the woman then said "you need a 6' fence", I stated I did, she replied their mouthy and they dig, I said that's fine were are loud also and were out door people anyways we go camping alot. She said NO I don't want to place a hound in an apartment, I stated that she has no idea the size of my apartment and that I felt she was offending me and it seemed like she didn't want to place a dog with my family... then it was No because hounds are not "city" dogs!!! Come on lady

She immediately denied stating that she said anything about my apartment, and that she was trying to find the right fit... like Buddy the 1 year old blk. Lab that won't go near anyone, lol !! So I asked about Sweetie another lab and again she replied no. Because of my child again, this dog wasn't wearing a "RED" COLLAR", so again why??? She proceeded to say go sit in the room I will take a walk around to see what dogs we have... She didn't come back she sent some other young lady to tell us they had no dog for us!!

My children and I were very hurt knowing we would provide a happy loving home no matter if I lived in the city, an apartment, or had a fenced in yard.

I was trying to get a kitten for my daughter for Christmas. I called several times in the day and was told that they had kittens. The staff told me they had about 10 and 4 were spoken for. I called again at 3 and left a message saying I was on my way. I got a call from them at 3:41 saying to come because there were a few left. I told them I was 10 minutes away. I got there at 4 and all the kittens were gone. Why would they call me if they were not going to hold one for me...so disappointed
Update: I want to say that although I was disappointed, the staff were very kind. The next day, my boyfriend went in for me to try for another kitten. He was very successful. They explained that they cannot hold the animals even when someone says they are on their way...which I understand. They allowed me to adopt the kitten through him even though I couldn't make it there...we now have a great little addition to our family...my daughter will know Santa came through with her wishes. Thank you Northeast shelter for making this the best Christmas for her.

About Northeast Animal Shelter

Northeast Animal Shelter: A Haven for Abandoned Animals

The Northeast Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization located in Salem, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in New England, providing a safe haven for abandoned and homeless animals. The shelter has been operating since 1976 and has helped thousands of animals find their forever homes.

The shelter's mission is to provide a loving and caring environment for all animals that come through its doors. The staff at Northeast Animal Shelter works tirelessly to ensure that every animal receives the best possible care while they are waiting to be adopted. They believe that every animal deserves a second chance at life, regardless of their age or breed.

One of the things that sets Northeast Animal Shelter apart from other shelters is its commitment to being a no-kill facility. This means that they do not euthanize any healthy or treatable animals, even if they have been at the shelter for an extended period. Instead, they work with local rescue groups and other shelters to find homes for these animals.

The shelter offers adoption services for puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs of all ages and breeds. They have an extensive network of foster families who take care of animals until they are ready to be adopted permanently. This allows them to provide individualized care for each animal while also freeing up space in the shelter.

In addition to adoption services, Northeast Animal Shelter also provides low-cost spay/neuter services for pets in the community. This helps reduce pet overpopulation and ensures that more animals can find loving homes.

Northeast Animal Shelter relies heavily on donations from individuals and businesses in the community to fund its operations. They offer various ways people can donate such as monetary donations online or by mail; donating supplies like food or toys; sponsoring an animal's medical expenses; volunteering time as well as hosting fundraising events throughout the year.

If you're interested in adopting a pet from Northeast Animal Shelter or want more information about their programs/services offered please visit their website www.northeastanimalshelter.org where you can view available pets online before visiting them during open hours which are daily from 10 am - 8 pm except on major holidays when closed.

In conclusion,

Northeast Animal Shelter is one of New England's largest no-kill animal shelters dedicated solely towards providing abandoned pets with love & care until finding them permanent homes through adoptions & fostering programs along with offering low-cost spay/neuter services within communities it serves.
Their commitment towards being "no-kill" sets them apart from others by ensuring healthy/treatable pets aren't euthanized but instead given another chance at life.
They rely heavily on donations & volunteers' support which makes it possible for them to continue serving communities around Salem MA area.
