Modern facilities in old building. Free toilets, ample parking, but chargeable. Good base for walking in the area, but raining when we went, so didn't do any!

Lovely scenery but blimey some days you go for a nice walk or drive out and you can barely breath for the burning, had friends had to abandon their lunch at the cafe at Scaling Dam because of the stink. Maybe the businesses are suffering at the hands of the grouse shooters?

Open space, varying but striking natural colour, especially when the sun comes out. Pack layers to cope with temperature fluctuations and a camera to capture the stunning views!

A beautiful wild area where it is sometimes possible to find oneself alone! Not easily done in our national parks. The high ridges are very often rambler free despite being easily accessed and offer some stunning views.
The tourist hotspots such as Pickering tend to get busy but are worth a visit but are best avoided on sunny Sundays. Visit Bilsdale or Glaisedale when the weather is poor and you can walk for miles without meeting another person.
Take care to avoid the moors on the glorious 12th (12 August) when some open access land will be closed and footpaths diverted due to grouse shooting. Don't condem it out of hand for without driven grouse shooting there would be less moorland.

A great place to go walking, especially in good weather, you can see some beautiful views and wildlife. I would suggest wearing decent footwear as it can get muddy. It is near to the North York Moors Railway which is great for a day out if you enjoy going on Steam trains and visiting country side villages or for going to Whitby and Pickering.

Best place in Britain by far. Quality fish n chips in Whitby, lovely beach great for kids and adults. Some beaches don't allow dogs tho so please check online. I'm going to move to this area when I'm old and wrinkly although all them hills with my knees wouldn't be a good mix. Definitely visit Whitby filey and robin hood's bay(even though he lived in a forest nr Mansfiteld where I come from) Don't hesitate get it booked

In my totally unbiased view, the North York Moors is the most beautiful part of England.
I grew up in Yorkshire and I have always loved the moors and the impossibly pretty villages peppered around the National Park. If you have never been, you are missing out. If you love the English countryside, pay the NYM a visit - you won't regret it.
