I was confused about a form that I needed to submit but the customer service representative Shirley helped me and I was so grateful of her kindness and patience with me. Thanks Shirley! You are awesome.

With more 1 star reviews, why haven't they listened and changed.

This is horrible. NC was voted one of the best places to start a business. I started my business this year (2018) and needed to change my address. Best place to start with the worse customer service....

The ladies up front gave horrible customer service and one of them gave me the wrong forms to complete. I told the lady exactly what i needed and even showed her on my phone which address needed changing from the SOSNC website. I still received incorrect forms. They have an attitude as if they hate their jobs and hate helping people. I came back to get the correct forms and after completing them, i handed them to a different lady and requested her to look over them to insure I completed them correctly and that these were the correct forms. She replied to me, "did you put all of the correct info on them?" I said yes but are they completed correctly. She said if the info is correct, I'm sure its completed correctly. I said OK. Then a week or so later, I get the same form back with a letter stating the form was completed incorrectly and missing some information.

I'm a new business owner and was not familiar with these forms and the proper way to complete each section.

All of this could have been avoided if I received the correct forms and were looked over to insure each section was completed correctly.

I hope I don't have to deal with them face to face ever again.

no one answers the phone or the emails I am waiting for a reactivation of my business that closed due to covid! I have sent the correct papers and the money has already been collected but my paperwork does not solve it

The certifications office here handed several of my documents to the wrong person, almost costing me my citizenship. I wasn't even refunded for the service I had requested. If you need a service from the Secretary of State, allot extra time for error.

Super helpful. Gave me all the information I needed to apostille my documents.

I had some struggles with getting a document during COVID19 for an urgent situation, but they tried to accommodate me and it was greatly appreciated to have one less stress to worry about.

Over 17 years in government and I have never seen so much corruption. Elaine Marshall is the face of fraud and corruption and should not be in office. Want to work here? Better walk around with a camera and microphone. and then maybe you will make it. But remember, the are not above lying.

Unfortunately i have had many different bad experiences with who ever answer the phone.
They are so rude! It seems like they hate their job.
We should be thankful for any job that we have because it provides the food in our table and the blessing for their families! We NEED EACH OTHER !

I just spoke to Mark who had a northern accent but was very pleasant to speak to. He took the time to give me updates as well as helped me understand the process for me filling a new business.

I have contacted the department numerous times during Covid to check on the status of our business. Although the state took our finances in full, they have yet to change the status on the website. I sent the correct forms in as instructed and nothing. No status change update or anything. In addition to contacting the first person who reviewed our records via email, I also left phone messages, etc, she has yet to contact me, and her boss hasn't either. This has been the worst experience ever. My husband and I have been waiting on updates since April...TERRIBLE! Those working in customer service have been very supportive and have sent me directly to the two ladies each time. One lady mentioned last week that many people are complaining about the lady not responding to calls/emails.

Sooo Backlogged. Causing businesses to be unable to conduct business because of the Secretary of State's lack of receiving in forms in a timely manner. The new rollout of how the SoS deals with the filing of annual reports was shoddy at best!!! If the SoS is going to change their policy and dissolve companies over a late report being filed, then they should have the man power in place to handle the process when a company tries to rectify the situation. Very Disappointing!

I have come twice to this place to make an apostille of birth certificates, and both times I was treated wonderfully; I don't know if the staff is always friendly and polite or I was just lucky. The place looks normal like any government office; But what I find very uncomfortable is the access to the building, since it does not have its own parking and finding one that is paid is very difficult and complicated. Still it seemed like a nice place.

North Carolina Secretary of State offers a greats customer service either by email, phone or mail correspondence. They responded to our questions and concerns and guide us on the process to get state documents.

We have worked with different requirements and NC Secretary of State has helped us several times.

Absolutely the WORST! 10 stars would be a more accurate rating. No one answers the telephone, you re put in a loop that does not offer a proper choice. Somewhere along the line I was given an option to leave a message and HOPE for a return call. I just called the governor s office and although the phone was answered, the girl was not helpful. She said she would transfer me to someone who could help, instead transferred me to an operator who had no clue what I was asking. It s outrageous that as hard working individuals we are paying salaries to people who have no clue or desire to perform their duties. I m a newcomer to NC and it is the most backward state I have ever lived in. Come for the beautiful mountains for a few weeks and then go home. This is not the place to live. If not for family I would leave today.

Pathetic that you need them to run your business but they literally have a lower google review than most small businesses! I called mary and she was on no help and actually hung up on me. She just told me to call the person i talked to previously. She was of no help and just wanted me off the phone. Get rid of people like this and you might have better google reviews than the dmv...

I can't understand all of the bad reviews. I called this morning to find out about a business's incorporation in the State of NC. The gentleman, originally from New York, explained the process and who to contact in reference to a fraudulent contractor. I was provided with websites and phone numbers for 3 different agencies. I wish all governmental agencies were this easy to deal with.

I apparently interrupted "breakroom" talk, being the only person needing help and was treated as such. Is it just me, or is their customer service aim to make people feel under valued, uneducated, and as if they should know legal proceedings, form names and proper way to fill them. I thought people working government jobs needed to be educated and public service oriented. Unbelievable.

F | Office is closed during coronavirus times, I came for forms and such and wasn't able to fulfill that. Called the number and am awaiting a response.

Monika was tremendous and she provided the best customer service I could ask for. Very helpful and eased a stressful situation. I am extremely grateful.

This place is a joke!! I showed up to reinstate an LLC. Was told 5 days it would be be finalized... 2 weeks later im still fussing with these incompetent folks in the Secretary of States office!!! 3 weeks later crickets, no phone calls returned & no one knows what they hell their doing up there

I've had the need to apostille several documents in the last few years. Everyone has always been very helpful, particularly Andrea Dixon. She has been wonderful! Thank you.
