Norfolk Naval Shipyard Review

The cafeteria good DURING BREAKFAST lol. I always get the sausage egg sunny side up & cheese croissant to go . lunch trucks could be better though . I like how it's not crowded in this yard . One of my favorite yards .

The reason I don't eat shrimp anymore is because of what these ships are doing with their fecal waste on deployment. They have verified on sonar what these shrimps are doing. It'd be one thing if they were farm raised on a vegetarian diet. Instead, they have been rejecting their natural plankton diet in favor of what the ship plumbing systems empty out from the toilets. Pretty sick if you ask me.

Dad worked during ww2 tried to enlist in Navy! Ordered to Ship building! Buddy Uncle Ted Hennings was ordered to Newport R I cousin ted born there 11/22/39! Twin Paul & I were born in Waterbury Ct 10/21/42!
He saved blue points @ $ picked us up in Waterbury drove home to Portsmouth Virginia two years then to Oyster Bay, NY lived with Hennings family next to St. Dominic's School!
Below grade school & playground! Dad got job with Grumman in bethpage after odd jobs Paul & i walked to school 5 blocks? Uncle Ted got job with benrus watches in Danbury/Waterbury Ct! Gave Su total stirling silver watch no base metal on her skin!pix of twins Paul & Fred b&w dated 11/19/44!

The shipyard is a great place as a young adult looking for an alternate to going to college full time and collecting massive amounts of debt. If you're not afraid to work some ot and get your hands dirty, the waterfront will make you some money. There is room to move up or obtain higher paying jobs within the yard. You will never get rich, but you won't go Hungary. I've been here over two years now and it's done me well.

P.s. these people that complain about the trash probably don't know that the two towers on the south side are a waste facility.

I throughly enjoy working here and plan on the rest of my career here until my last retiring day.

Firewatch Personnel are being left out in the elements when all others have their own places to go. Yard doesn't seem to care.

Jobs lost in shipyard effect the whole area business wise.. shipyard is a great place to work that's where i got my start 93 but ,cant be depend on to many layoff... Va house's an apartments aren't cheap ! weather is great.. traffic is horrible!

Historic, Vital, This place is not fun it is for maintaining our nations war ships. The work I do is not glamorous but I am proud of what I do so I take it seriously.

Do you enjoy ineptitude? Laziness? How about total disregard for rules and regs? You do! Then this is the perfect place for you to work. You will get to enjoy these benefits across all levels of this shipyard. Good Luck!
