Super good and valuable foundation, where your money ends up really well if you want to donate. They invest in interesting and innovative research in the field of kidneys and in particular kidney dialysis. Hopefully a portable artificial kidney will become available in the future (who knows the kidney on chip ?!), that would make many lives easier :)

In 2016, donor money from the Kidney Foundation was again awarded to scientific research involving laboratory animals. It is striking how research budgets often flow to the same research groups over and over again, for animal studies of which the beginning and the end are lost. Laboratory animals are made ill, their kidneys are poisoned, damaged, removed, transplanted. All animals are killed at the end of a study and replaced by new test animals for a subsequent study.

KIDNEY DAMAGE IN GAME Mice For example, 100,000 euros was awarded for research into kidney damage in laboratory animals at the AMC Amsterdam. The project will start in April 2017 and will last one year. Test mice are put on a diet of specific fats and vitamins to find out whether these can play a role in preventing or treating kidney damage.1
The AMC research group has been conducting these animal experiments since 2005. From 2009, these research projects have been funded with donor money from the Kidney Foundation. In the publications2 we read how mice undergo operations that cause kidney damage. Veins that regulate the blood supply to the kidneys are stretched with a clamp for half an hour. This causes serious damage to the kidneys. After the operation, the mice are studied for a while because the researchers want to gain more insight into the role of various factors in the recovery process.
The kidney foundation is a good thing. As a business donor, I gave up after a television broadcast in around 2018. All data was transmitted by telephone. Around the end of the year nothing had been written off. I then emailed them. They could not find me data. Still nothing was written off. Called in January 2019. I was still not listed as a donor, but ... now it would be okay. It is now almost May 2019 and we are one year further and still .. nothing, nada. I hope that this does not happen too often with new donors because they are badly needed and that it says something about the internal organization. In any case, I am very much off here.
An association that stands for the Kidney Patient. They deserve the support of every Dutch person. Thanks to them, much has improved for the patients they represent. Euh .... have you already entered the donor code?
