Our experience with NextStep Solutions Inc has not...

Our experience with NextStep Solutions Inc has not been a positive experience. When they met with us and pitched their plans/system, they provided a much-more expansive system than what they provided upon launch.

I could easily list the number of times we've called/emailed and had the response that they had no idea how something happened, where it came from, why it happened, etc.

When calling, you can easily get ahold of someone...getting anywhere, however, is a different problem altogether. If there is an issue that happens, unless they are on the phone controlling your computer at that moment, they have no information in their system showing that any error occurred whatsoever.

They have a separate billing system that is a nuisance. The amount of errors that are not errors are a bit infuriating. Many times, there is an error where you have to go into the service itself and re-check boxes that the system unchecked for it to be billed. If you are a larger business that sends out bills/statements, be prepared for a shock. They don t have any. They seem genuinely confused when we contact them and request a statement to send to patients. We had to speak directly to the engineers and explain what a statement was and how it should look. They even had us send them a prototype of what we thought a statement should look like.

In the clinical system, we requested an option be added to the Transfer Form, and they ve made it a huge issue. We merely requested a dropdown be added (this dropdown exists in the billing widget, but creates an error because it s not available in the Transfer Form), and they re still not providing it. They told us that it would mess up many things and they ll have to work on it.

In our facility, we have 2 businesses we bill under (one is mental health, one is substance abuse). They have no way to have 2 businesses in their system. We have to manually transfer a patient from one business to another if they re receiving mental health and substance abuse. They told us this cannot be changed because it would mess a lot of things up . Our previous software did not have an issue with this.

In essence, if you re a small business that has no need to ever send a patient a bill, then this system should work for you. If patients don t pay for everything upfront, stay away. There isn t even an option to reimburse payments for when Insurance kicks in (we have to make a list and maintain who we have reimbursed with patients due to this).

As a vendor partner with Nextstep Solutions we have found them very easy to work with over the years. They are always open to solution ideas and marketing ideas. This is one of our strongest partners.

We implemented our Next Step EHR system just over ...

We implemented our Next Step EHR system just over a year ago now. We are a local non-profit that runs on a peer model. We provide Peer Recovery Support Specialist as well as Outpatient Therapist. We also work on several grants that include a great deal of documentation and Case Management. We are also accountable to our funders, meaning we go through several annual audits from a variety of authorities. For all of these reasons we needed a system that was affordable, flexible, accessible by auditors and user friendly. Moving from an all paper organization to all digital is a large feat.

Brad, Dan and Dave at Next Step worked with us over 5 months to set up a system that met all of our needs, ranging from transferable, printable, and sign-able forms. We needed forms to be signed by clients and practitioner then sent to the supervisor to be signed, then printable so they could be sent to required places. We also need our entire intake package in the EHR system and to look like what we were using to make the transition as easy as possible for our partitioners. They were able to help us with all of our needs. The only things we are still attempting to work out easy sign group forms.

They also helped us create an auditor review which our auditors can use to access the charts of the clients they need to review. And recently we added in Telehealth, urgently due to COVID-19. They were able to help us have Telehealth up and running within 3 days.

Lastly, I would like to say that, on the back end, creating and building forms, adding users, programs, and measuring outcomes has been incredibly easy. We can continue to grow, add grants, add forms and programs and properly track and help practitioners attend to their clients by reminding them when forms are due, calling client to remind them about appointments and text reminders. We are also able to quickly disseminate new forms and processes as they come up. No more finding all the old paper documents and making sure they are no longer being used!

We are a medium size behavioral health company with over 300 employees and multiple lines of business (e.g. outpatient, crisis, in-home services, Transitional Care, Telehealth). We have been using Next Step Solutions for the past four years and it has been the only software that we have been able to use with ALL of our lines of business.
They have always offered great support, are open to suggestions for improvements, and they don't nickel and dime you at every corner like many other software companies out there. This software provides a tremendous value at a very reasonable price.

Nobody picks up the phone. The price is for what you get is absurd. They don't apply the checks you send them and then say your payment is overdue. All their reviews are written by their own employees. Absolute trash.
