HORRIBLE! I have lived in an apartment with Newman Properties for only 7 months and it has been the worst living experience out of my 4 years in Boston. I have also NEVER left a negative review but this establishment truly deserves it. They never respond to the initial reach out or request. Be ready to reach out a few times before hearing back from someone. Then when you do get in touch with someone it is poor communication from there. We have had multiple instances where they said they would keep us updated on a situation regarding the apartment (heat, fire alarm, regular cleaning of the hallway) and didn t. They never get back to us. No one should have to reach out multiple times just to know that their request has been received. Also, they ll say they clean the entry way and hallway monthly... they don t. It gets disgusting (with bugs too) and then it takes multiple emails from me and my boyfriend to get a response and finally some action. HERE S THE ICING ON THE CAKE. When I addressed this communication issue directly, hoping to find out the best way to get a response, guess what I get... SILENCE! No response at all. 100% DO NOT recommend renting from Newman Properties.

I've rented from Newman Properties for about a year now and I love working with them. They have decent prices and kind people that work for them. Maintenance is prompt upon request and the staff is reasonable and professional. They have properties in Boston, Northeast of Boston and on the cape. I definitely recommend!

I have lived at two different Newman Properties buildings (both in East Boston) over the past three years. While you never WANT to have to contact your landlord -- sometimes things happen! Any time I have had to contact Newman, my contact over there, Mariana, has been quick to respond. She has a dedicated team to respond to issues and does a great job with updating residents. The best part of being a tenant with Newman Properties is the giveaways!! I recently received two tickets to see the Pentatonix next month, and they have regular monthly giveaways just for paying rent online! I recommend this company if you're looking for your next place to live.

Good luck if they reply to you quick. I try to contact them during work hours and they still dont answer the phone. I had a security issue at my apartment and i have not receive a call back or text back during the whole day and it is Monday !!

As a real estate professional in the greater Boston who works with MANY property management companies, Newman Properties is among the best. They maintain an excellent mix of technology and a personal touch. The staff is professional, friendly and reliable...not so common in companies their size. I happily refer tenants to them and know they will maintain my expected levels of service and professionalism.

Moved into one of their apartments on Linden St. in allston back in September of 2010. Never did a walkthrough or inventory, moved into the place as is. This was a rough apartment, but we were young and broke and it was already August, so we accepted the place despite its less than ideal state of repair. Nothing crazy, just talking filthy tubs, some old trash on the fire escape, patched dirty unpainted walls. There was also furniture leftover from the previous tenants that we had to remove. The point is, this term as is came up again and again with the realtor (Benjamin Apartments) and the property owner (Newman). The use of this term would not be necessary without the concession that the place was in rough shape. That s why the apartment was still available less than a month before the lease started. That s why the price had been reduced multiple times. The place was a dump, and they found some tenants who didn t mind. Over two years of living there, we damaged exactly one thing: the glass door of the oven. (Which was 250$ and totally fair to charge us for). Besides that, I can confidently say the place was in at the very least the same condition we found it in. After moving out in August of 2012, I inquired about our $1800 security deposit to the owner, Matt Newman. I get told that we trashed the place and that he s surprised we are even asking about the security deposit. So we were all in our early 20 s, supporting ourselves and working our way through college, and Matt Newman decided to use our $1800 (or a large portion of it) to do routine maintenance on his apartment. I was never given an explanation for what trashed meant. We had been low maintenance tenants for two years and had even been complimented for that by Newman himself. So we moved into a dump, left it less of a dump than we found it, but were now expected to pay for damages that had occurred prior to us living there. When the next prospective tenants weren t as laid back as us and expected painting, etc. to be done, Matt Newman decided it was going to unjustly come out of our pockets. My concerns were communicated to him in multiple calm, rational emails (They are ~6 years old at this point, but I just reviewed them this morning to confirm.) I am not an unreasonable person, and have had six years to react less emotionally to the situation. It has not aged well. It is just as unfair now as it was back then. Matt Newman, wealthy business owner, using poor students security deposits to unjustly finance routine apartment maintenance. This stuff happens with student rentals all the time. Predatory, greedy landlord with a team of lawyers on call takes advantage of young people without the resources to defend themselves. Oh, and there was also the classic Allston whirlwind of uninvited realtors letting themselves into our apartment to show it without the legally required notice. They re students, who cares. We can do whatever we want.

Newman Properties helped me from the beginning of living in my apartment. When issues appeared they responded to my emails and helped me as soon as they can. I'm so happy and feeling comfortable in my apartment about 3 years now! Online payments are so easy and accessible from everywhere. Thank you so much for being helpful in every situation. I had couple of problems and needed help during pandemic and they listened and help me as soon as possible. As an international student, I want to thank you guys a lot!

I have been at the same apartment for 4 years now since college and have had a great experience with Newman Properties. I honestly have not wanted to move for that reason alone they are quick to respond to me and get what needs to be fixed, fixed.

I moved into my apartment in September of 2020 from out of state and the property manager, Andy, has been wonderful! Maintenance is always quick to respond and it s not difficult to get in touch with the property manager.

Have had multiple issues with our apartment. Very rare to get a call back when leaving a voicemail, emails don't get responses until 2 days later if I'm lucky, and there's little to no communication from management. Edit 3/17/2021: Still have had the same problems since I posted this review. Tenants shouldn't have to disclose their identities nor should we have to resort to posting public reviews to get a response form management. It seems counterproductive to only get an immediate response from live chat. Even now at 1:30pm on a Wednesday as I write this, There's nobody on the live chat to assist with the problem i'm having at my apartment. If you're considering renting from this company, look elsewhere. It's NOT worth the headache.

Recently moved in to a place managed by Newman. My previous landlord was the owner of the property. He was difficult to contact and extremely slow to respond to maintenance requests. Newman has been a world of difference. Maintenance requests are simple and addressed quickly. Mariana is who I have dealt with directly and she has been a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend using them to find your new home!

I ve had a great experience with Newman properties so far. Andy, our property manager, has been awesome with responding and meeting our needs and has been very quick to solve any issues we have. We moved into a fairly old building and as such have had a lot of things that need replacing or fixing and he has always been on top of everything. Definitely would recommend Newman and especially Andy Heley!

Rented from Newman Properties for a little over a year. Management was decent for any issues we had. The common areas of the building we rented from were gross and dirty and could certainly use atleast a fresh coat of paint. The dumpster was constantly full and trash was always left next to it. All in all, not awful, but definitely not the best.

I've been living in the same apartment under Newman's management for over 5 years now and I've been very happy with the services they provide. They're professional and provide timely service. I know things have been hard especially over the past year; I've been working from home for most of it and I was grateful for the understanding they offered when it comes to rent and maintenance requests. They recently even redid the common space of my building, so they do update their properties as well.

NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY - They took a deposit from my sister, told her she had an apartment, Held the money for almost a week, causing her to lose time to find another apartment and then told her she wasn't approved. Terrible company. Unprofessional. Unreliable. Would never rent from them, they cant be trusted.

In the 5 year we have lived in an apartment managed by Newman properties we have had excellent treatment by the property manager. We never had an issue that was not immediately solved and always with care and putting our comfort first. The company has fantastic spaces and manages them superbly.

Living at a Newman Properties apt has been such a pleasure. You get the home feel of living in a house with the conveniences of living in a luxury apartment. I pay may rent through an autopay system online every month (SO EASY!) and if I have any issues or questions, someone always gets right back to me. On top of that, the properties that the company manages are gorgeous with beautiful construction and updates. When looking for new rental properties to lease, Newman's website will be my first stop from here on out!

This is hands down the worst apartment experience I have ever had. After months of dealing with a flooding apartment, the landlord and his incompetent daughter dealt with the situation by avoiding us, leaving us with a water vacuum to deal with the over 60 gallons of water that accumulated in my bedroom, and continuously telling us that they would deal with it when the rain stopped or the snow melted or it got warmer, depending on the current excuse. They also dealt with it at one point by tying a tarp around the fire escape, which was definitely against fire codes (and really loud). After five months of flooding, we left and they refused to pay for my damaged items such as my bed, and had the nerve to send us a bill to repaint the apartment. Other than that, I heard complaints from other tennants regarding the maintenance as well. They don't have anyone on call outside of office hours and are just generally rude and unhelpful. Do not rent from Newman Properties - they're basically slum lords.

Newman Properties is the best apartment company around. At the start of living in my apartment, there was a lot of issues that needed to be fixed left by the old owners. As soon, I expressed my concerns the staff assisted me quickly and efficiently to fix all my problems. Now I am so happy to have a good company that is readily accessible through the online portal and there new payments methods to make my lease more fun and enjoyable.

Its been 10 months we moved into one of the apartments managed by Newman Properties in Bourne.Great living experience and very quiet place, close to everything that we need. The maintenance is fantastic. Our property manager, Andy is very attentive and resposive to the maintenance requests. I moved to US in the month of January and this is my first ever apartment experience in US,so happy about it.Thanks to Newman Properties.
