Classes offered on campus through WORKFORCE is awesome! And its FREE if you qualify for the Fast-forward Virginia program! But the session are too long (8-5 on Saturdays) to just sit and listen to one person teach something that could be a DL class. More hands on would definitely help not make the sessions drag on and on.
New River Community College was a great institution and a stepping stone for me. The technology used is up to date and the faculty and staff exhibit the desire to see their students succeed. I would recommend NRCC to anyone who is serious about bettering themselves.
Most of the professors here are very passionate about what they do. The class sizes are great, but the campus was a little too small for me. Overall, this is a great institution for a non traditional student to continue an education. There are many opportunities for financial aid, so don't be afraid to ask for information!
New River Community College needs work... to say the least. The advisors are not helpful and do not work for you, they do the bare minimum and are not interested in your success. The nursing program is not terrible, however it needs extensive work. The bookstore faculty are also the least bit helpful and do not provide anything except the minimum assistance. The financial office is not interested in you or your needs and will delay responses to urgent matters for days. The professors are inconsistent and the learning opportunity is compromised in that they continually use tests and exams from years before without any modification. Overall I would not recommend this college to anyone looking at community colleges in virginia as there are many other institutions that prove more consistent, professional, and geared toward student success than New River.
Nursing program from 2013 to 2015 was absolutely outstanding!
HOWEVER, the bookstore and billing department are rude and do not work with their students in regard to textbook returns.
I had signd up for a class that I was unable to attend due to a family emergency. I attempted to return the textbook and the bookstore absolutely refused to take it back.
5 years later, I am being billed for said textbook that THEY REFUSED TO TAKE BACK!
I have contacted billing, and have attempted to contact the supervisor, with no response.
In addition, to do this 5 years later and during a pandemic is poor and despicable.
The classes are good in the tech department but, the Financial Aid and Business office is an absolute PITA to deal with.
That being said, they do allow travel to other countries and enrollment during your time over there, via online classes. Furthermore, the veteran's office is great and so too is Additive Manufacturing class.
