About New Cross Learning
New Cross Learning: A Community Library Run by the People, for the People
New Cross Learning is a community library located in New Cross, London. Formerly known as the New Cross People's Library, this library is run by volunteers who are passionate about providing access to books and resources to everyone in their community.
The library was established in 2011 after the closure of the New Cross People's Library due to budget cuts. The local residents came together and decided to take matters into their own hands by creating a new community-run library that would serve as a hub for learning and knowledge-sharing.
Today, New Cross Learning has become an integral part of the local community. It offers a wide range of services and resources that cater to people of all ages and backgrounds. From books on various subjects to computers with internet access, this library has everything you need for your personal or professional growth.
One of the unique features of New Cross Learning is its focus on inclusivity. The volunteers who run this library believe that everyone should have access to information regardless of their socio-economic status or background. They have created an environment where people from all walks of life can come together and learn from each other.
Apart from providing access to books and resources, New Cross Learning also hosts various events throughout the year. These events include book clubs, workshops on different topics such as gardening or cooking, storytelling sessions for children, film screenings, art exhibitions and much more.
The volunteers at New Cross Learning are committed to promoting literacy among children in their community. They offer free reading sessions for kids every week where they can read aloud with trained volunteers who help them improve their reading skills while making it fun at the same time.
In addition to promoting literacy among children, New Cross Learning also provides support for adults who want to improve their English language skills through conversation classes held regularly at the library.
New Cross Learning has received widespread recognition for its contribution towards promoting education and literacy in its community. In 2018 it won an award from Libraries Connected (formerly Society Of Chief Librarians) which recognised it as one of Britain’s best libraries serving communities under 10k population size category
