I grew up in Covenant Life, taking part in their children s/youth ministry programs and was a formal member of the church during my early twenties.
My experience here: the pastors at this church were overly focused on the image of the church instead of taking steps to do the right thing and be the hands and feet of Jesus. For years, any hope for positive change would be laid at the feet of the elders and a shadow group called the Financial Advisory Committee , where it would likely be stomped out in favor of maintaining a status quo that thrived on regressive beliefs that often were informed not by the spirit of scripture, but fear. Any pastors who spoke out against these practices didn t remain for much longer.
The church has since greatly diminished in size due to a couple different splits that were born of a variety of factors. Most of the pastors have since moved on to other churches or other vocations. I hope that being brought low has instilled a humility in CLC that leads them to be a more positive force in the community, truly being an image-bearer of Christ and being willing to speak out on controversial issues for good/take stances for justice.
