About Nevada Ballet Theatre
Nevada Ballet Theatre: Bringing the Art of Dance Closer to the Las Vegas Community
Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to bringing the art of dance closer to the Las Vegas community for 48 years. Founded in 1972, NBT has become one of the most respected ballet companies in America, with a reputation for excellence and innovation.
The mission of NBT is to inspire and entertain through excellence in dance performance, education, and outreach. The company's repertoire includes classical ballets such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, as well as contemporary works by some of today's most exciting choreographers.
One of the things that sets NBT apart from other ballet companies is its commitment to education and outreach. Through its various programs, NBT reaches over 20,000 students each year with opportunities to experience dance firsthand. These programs include:
- Future Dance: A program that provides free weekly ballet classes for underserved children ages 7-11.
- Discover Dance: A field trip program that brings students from Clark County School District schools to see live performances at The Smith Center.
- Education Matinees: Special performances designed specifically for school groups.
- Summer Intensive Program: An intensive training program for serious dancers ages 12-22.
In addition to these programs, NBT also offers adult classes in ballet and other dance styles through its Academy division. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer looking to improve your skills, there's something for everyone at Nevada Ballet Theatre.
But it's not just about education - NBT also puts on some truly spectacular performances throughout the year. From classic storybook ballets like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella to more modern works like A Choreographer's Showcase (featuring new works by up-and-coming choreographers), there's always something exciting happening on stage at Nevada Ballet Theatre.
And speaking of stages - let's talk about The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. This state-of-the-art facility opened in downtown Las Vegas in 2012 and has quickly become one of the premier performing arts venues in America. It features three theaters (including Reynolds Hall, where most NBT performances take place), as well as rehearsal spaces and classrooms.
The partnership between Nevada Ballet Theatre and The Smith Center has been instrumental in helping both organizations achieve their goals. For example:
- In addition to performing at Reynolds Hall throughout the year, NBT also presents an annual production of The Nutcracker at Reynolds Hall during December.
- As mentioned earlier, Discover Dance brings thousands of CCSD students each year into Reynolds Hall so they can experience live performance art firsthand.
- And finally - perhaps most importantly - having a world-class performing arts venue like The Smith Center right here in Las Vegas helps attract top talent from around the world who might not have considered coming here otherwise.
So if you're looking for a way to get involved with dance here in Las Vegas - whether it be through taking classes yourself or supporting one of our many educational initiatives - we encourage you to check out Nevada Ballet Theatre today!
