If you're actice Military, Reserve, Guard, Retired, etc, look no further for the best accommodations in the area. Clean, quiet, and close to the attractions of Monterey. Prices are much better than downtown and safer.
I loved my time at the Naval Postgraduate School. I believe that Dean Rich Lyons has a clear vision which inspires key values in staff, faculty, students, alumni, and the general community. The people I worked with at Haas both worked and played hard. I took pride in being a part of a high-functioning team of highly motivated individuals. I felt like I had strong mentors who were very supportive of my own professional development. That said, this is not an organization in which it is easy to move up. Although an employee may show the dedication to work 60 hour weeks for months while only claiming 40, there are no guarantees that a strong work ethic will be rewarded through school awards or promotion.
Pros. strong work ethic, hard workers, dedication, fun team, diversity in workload, never a dull moment.
Cons. limited work/life balance, failure to reclassify employees as a result of added responsibility, unrealistically high expectations commensurable to pay grade
While I wasn't here for the school myself, my visit was very nice. Having experience in naval inns and other on base amenities, Monterey has the NICEST on base hotel I have ever seen. The reflection pool is a no swim pool but the area is nice.
Absolutely an amazing Hotel! The design and layout is a walk into a different time of elegance. You can also find one of the few bars that was open during prohibition too! If you get an opportunity to go, do it.
