So apparently if you're a veteran with a service dog you can't eat in the cafeteria. They allow you to buy food but then you have to take it outside. My sister has been dreaming of this college for sometime now and to be kicked out because of her disability is wrong and illegal.

Wonderful campus. Dedicated professors. Solid athletics. Amazing town. Beautiful environment. Safe and secure on campus living. Ignore the haters and pursue you passion!!
Just graduated with a degree in Finance. Great teachers, courses, and learning experience all around. Plenty of hands on experience, just need the drive to find and take part in it. Also love the city of flagstaff, small enough to go anywhere, but the forest makes this place huge.
I currently attend Northern Arizona University and I can honestly say it is the worst University I have ever been to. If you were considering attending this University, I strongly urge you to reconsider. The school is very poorly managed and many policies make no sense. Everything about this school is a money grab. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
Professor Heather Martel and the growing staff of anti American, anti God, anti men, and anti Christian thinkers need to think twice before saying such critical things against Christians. When the day comes that Christians are listed as those to be protected under the hate crime laws; they will quickly lose their jobs as their past "hate speach" will come back to bite!
Great University with amazing options in natural science and elementary education. I recommend the forestry school. Whatever you do, choose NAU. It's literally higher education (6900 ft). It beats ASU and has tons of cool things to do around the area. Get out of the metropolis and learn on a higher level.
I'm a transfer student from out-of-state and have greatly enjoyed my first year here at NAU! My biology advisor is amazing! She's so helpful and knowledgeable. As well I am a single mom and living off campus, but NAU has helped with childcare costs which has been a blessing. The area is beautiful and I enjoy walking through campus everyday!
The wine yang to Hops' beer yin, vino is much more relaxed than its lively counterpart, though dont expect a library as they do have live music here on occasion. Good selection of wines as well as some carryout for beers. Great patio, with comfier seating than hops. A little pricey, but such is life with wine bars.
tl;dr The campus is beautiful but with poor management and overzealous expansion.
Now the long version, I am a Flagstaff local and attended NAU for two years before leaving for literally anywhere else. The school has a great grounds-keeping department and whoever is in charge of the gardening deserves the highest praise as the whole place looks great.
The actual running of the college though I can only assume was left to a team of highly trained orangutans... tuition is overpriced but that is a problem with all universities now, the biggest issue is the ridiculous cost of things like housing, parking, and other "nickle and dime" items. A parking pass for the year costs as much as a course in it's own right and even if you have one good luck finding a spot as most of the parking lots have been removed (more on that in a second). Unless you live in the over-priced and under maintained campus housing then expect to either ride the bus or bike onto campus in two feet of snow.
The source of many of NAU's problems comes from it's overzealous admissions department, the college had 21,000 students at it's Flagstaff campus last year (almost a third the population of the town itself) and the bureaucracy of the school is not able to handle the strain. Classes are often huge and many times student's cannot get into the class they need or ending up with an over worked professor who doesn't have time to offer any of the personal attention that usually sets them apart from a k-12 teacher. On-campus housing is also a joke as in a mad rush to get more students (read tuition income) new dorms and apartments are being thrown up left and right with no regard for planning or quality often replacing existing buildings or as previously mentioned tearing up much needed parking lots.
Oh, it's been a headache from the start! I really tried to make it work at NAU. I'm sure if you attend classes in person it's a different experience, but if you are a completely online student run far far away! It's really hard to get people to communicate at this school, especially if you are out of state and can't physically talk with people. Online programs are basically teaching yourself, no instructor videos. You pretty much read a typed up lecture. And that's really poor online learning. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else that does engaging online learning if you are looking for a graduate program or certificate.
Went to college here for a semester. The school was fine. The teachers were good. Overall, the people weren't particularly friendly though. The main reason I didn't stay was because of how unfriendly the locals were.
I transferred from a university to NAU for their online extended campus. I can proudly say that I have received the best education from NAU. I have never felt so much challenged through academics and developed great skills from passing those challenges. I am proud of where I got my education because I truly feel like an independent woman today thanks to the great educational system, support of teachers and learning opportunities available made throughout the school.
I was accepted into NAU at the beginning of January and I was so excited to be going to school at NAU. I was going to be about an hour away from my family and they had a couple of degrees I was interested in. After a month of no luck trying to get a hold of someone to give me advice on which degree I should pursue, I gave up and just picked a degree I thought would benefit me most. I then encountered problems trying to register for my classes I kept getting error messages saying I needed to call enrollment and every time I would call I would just be put on hold. After multiple times of being on hold for over 30 minutes I decided I would go to school at Grand Canyon University.
Internet connection on the entire campus is super frustrating for the lack of speed, outdated technology which is really a struggle since lots of classes went from text books to online work spaces. Also chairs in every building are very unergonomic, I wonder how many people get backpain from these ancient chairs. Sorry for being so negative, but these are everyday struggles on this uni that interfere with study prestations
I DO not recommend the online version of this school; it's the worst thing I have ever experienced. I had to take an online course, and the instructor kept changing instructions for assessments that were due. For example quiz 5 was due on 4/28th, and I had to read chapters 12 and 13 and a 48 page article; however, when I went to rake the quiz, he had changed the quiz number. So quiz 5 was not due on the 28th, now it was quiz 6, and i had to read another 60 pages plus a different article just within an hour. YES, I was checking the quiz link through out the day, and he changed it the a few hours of the quiz dealine. The same instructor posted a message that said students had 150 minutes to take the final exam, but when students entered the exam, they only had an hour and 40 minutes to finish the assessment. One student took an image of the instructor's message because that 150 minute post was deleted later. He then told students that because of the time discrepancy, he would not include the final exam grade in the the course mark, but to email him if learners wanted the grade added. In this graduate course, he had a hundred points of the final assignment mark for online multiple choice questions. To me, it's extremely rudimentary to have such standardized assessment in a graduate course; we should have shown our abilities by complaining essays and projects. In addiction, as working professionals parents, and students we need to have structure in graduate courses. in the end, I got a C in this course, which is the lowest passing for grade graduate courses. The university emailed me yesterday and said they have put a low grade hold on my account, and I will not be able to enroll in any future courses.
Update: I apealed their decision based on the fact that there was no structure in the course. They wanted proof, so i sent them the emails the professor had sent to his learners about the final exam.
Thank God they approved it.
There is no structure in these classes. One professor had other graduate students grading students' work and giving them feedback. The professor chose her own book as the coursebook. We had to review her book. I hope she cites the students' comments or ideas.
Northern Arizona University is a beautiful campus with lots of history. My daughter and I toured the campus twice before deciding to come here. Very friendly stay and students, beautiful buildings and so much to do in and around the school. Once it snows, it becomes even more beautiful. They're constantly growing and building which means lots of employment opportunities as well.
Great campus, great town, the friendliest people. Loved the layout of the campus and fresh air. Everyone was so helpful and the study programs were hard to beat. Alot going on at the campus. Great school experience.
Brings way to much traffic to Flagstaff. Flagstaff only cares about the college because of the money they get. Lots of negative news about the school lately.
Best College campus I've seen so far. Short distances to each of your classes, everything you need is on campus, small student body, high student-to-faculty ratio, and also year round excellent weather with a great community.
WA Franke College of Business is a joke. 90% of Everything taught in class was theory and 10% was hands on. If you like memorizing definitions and taking a test this school is for you. If you want a true learning experience this place is not the school to go to. Graduated with a 3.3 GPA in CIS.
Beautiful place to go to school. Staff aren't particularly helpful, but if you are willing to just do your own thing, this is a great area in which to live and learn.
Thanks a lot for the notice that your institution was going to close down during the holidays. For some of us, this is the only time to get questions answered, direction, and things lined up for the upcoming semester courses. Why does this university feel they need to have so much time off during a critical time when most other businesses do not?
Heather Martel needs to be fired for harassing students for reading their bibles before class begins. Last I checked this is the United States of America where we have the freedom to do such things. This PC garbage is out of control. Wake up America! Wake up! If someone wants to KEEP their bible out on the desk during the whole class then they should be able!! Heather is a radical liberal bully pushing her power in the class room. FIRE HER
This 'school' has cost my daughter an entire semester. They promised her everything to get her to commit, then they pulled the rug out. They over accept applicants to the point there is no available housing in the entire town. Then, instead of providing assistance, they tell her glibly, "Go on craig's list and find a room in someone's house." Like I am going to let my 18-year-old daughter get into this situation, Ever hear of the Craig's list Killer? The reviewer who said the campus was safe, obviously never went out after dark. They actually have a place on campus known to the students as rape alley. Then the admin office is so out of touch, no one can answer a question. They just continually transfer you to other departments. All in all, I will be glad when she transfers out of state. Arizona's education system is among the bottom in the U.S. and NAU proves this beyond doubt.
okay lets see first off I dont like murderers, and second of all, Id like to be able to read the Koran before a class starts without a professor harassing me for what I choose to do before their class starts. You know who Im talking about heather martel
Northern Arizona University is a great university. It is small, it guarantees that you get all the classes you need to graduate on time, and classes are small and professors friendly.
I got two degrees from The Franke College of Business, and I loved the school and faculty. The building is state-of-the-art, and the faculty is very qualified. Faculty genuinely care about the students (before research etc). All my friends had multiple career opportunities lined up by the time they graduated.
The university provides incredible value, and is located in a beautiful college town.
I wouldn t recommend Northern Arizona University to anyone. Be very leery when it comes to dealing with their financial aid department. For nearly two months, I have been trying to get a fraudulent charge by the school on my account overturned. After much run around, I was told that the billed amount was justified by a policy which is not available for student access and more than likely doesn t exist at all. Several times, I asked for a copy of the policy and was told that they there was nothing for me to review. I was directed to review another policy instead that had nothing to do with my situation and was told that the amount that I owed the school was calculated based on that policy. Just about all of our conversations are documented. I received an email from a director in their financial aid department where she acknowledges their lack of transparency with policies and tells how they will be using my experience to pretty much create a policy to cover them in the future, making their unjustifiable actions justifiable. My question is, how do you acknowledge your misconduct and still not see fit for the charge to be overturned? You don t have to settle for a school where nobody really truly cares about what happens to the students as long as they get their checks.
I'm perplexed as to why the Bible isn't allowed to be read before a History class? That book is full of so much great History. In addition, did I miss religion being taken out of the protected classes? Are we suddenly being censored, Its not like the young man got up in front of the class and started ministering, just reading a book, no big deal... move along.
Amazing school, I am going there right now, and the teachers are super passionate about what they do! The campus is gorgeous, and the people are friendly. Love it!
I completed my entire bachelor's degree at NAU during 2007-2011. I know NAU has changed a lot since I was enrolled, but it's still a great university with a lot to offer. The Student Learning Centers provide free tutoring, the professors are mostly friendly and knowledgeable, and of course the location is beautiful. Granted, much of the staff working for parking services and food vendors are rude and greedy, but the university itself deserves 5/5 stars. Those were some of the best times of my life, and it's where my wife and I fell in love!
There are very friendly people here, however the nonsensical regulation and democratic policy s permeates throughout the campus. Not to mention the confusing, expensive parking permits and strict parking enforcement. I attempted to attend a NAU football game but was unable to because I committed the unconstitutional crime of bringing my backpack in. They will let in any other carrying accessory, except backpacks, due to safety concerns. If this was truly a safety concern, then why didn t they search my backpack when I offered? It s because they were exposed for being frauds. There was never a safety concern, merely a financial concern. Screw this school and screw their moronic parking and safety policies.
Best abroad studying experience! Major in HRM, classes and faculties are way better than other majors. Tons of career opportunities, nice dining and living environment. Study business here, and they won't let you down.
Beautiful campus and great location but overall poor performance in education. The professors lack knowledge in their subject of study (or refuse to teach it) and didn't challenge me to grow in my field of study. Future students who are considering NAU may want to reconsider a better school where their program is going to be taken more seriously by the institution. My experience here has been a disappointment, to say the least. I haven't gotten the most out of my education and I am frustrated with it overall. Those that I've encountered here at NAU that are serious about their education have expressed that they dislike their program and it has affected the way they view NAU. Others who want to just "have fun" love it up here so I guess the ball is in your court but I will not be going back.
Campus was very dark at night and hard to find guest parking. As a visitor for a comedy event, it was hard to navigate. The campus did seem beautiful from what we saw and there was a restaurant near by.
This school is ONLY out to get your money. The advisors are absolutely no help when it comes to issues regarding the curriculum or credit hours for your program of study, and when you drop a class they hold your money for 45 days to determine how much more of that money they can take from you even when you drop prior to the start date. I WISH I never would have enrolled with this university they have caused nothing but headaches, and stress PRIOR to my class even starting!! RUN AWAY!
The college its self is full of a bunch of the most rambunctious children. The school doesnt intervene when needed. They have these dorm ambassadors that do nothing. If there is a problem they just move people. Nothing more. They allow the mist immature behavior. Community college = less tuition, less drama and that can lead to a better education. No Lumberjack fan here.
Northern Arizona has been a great experience up to this point. The town is awesome the people are great. My daughter seems to have embraced the town. Professors and coaches have been great and anticipate a great college experience for my daughter. GO JACKS!
I absolutely loved my college experience here! I have my degree in Accountancy and a minor in Criminal Justice. And I have my M.B.A from this university as well. The W.A. Franke College of Business has wonderful professors and resources for students to take advantage of!
The school is decent, I've had a spectrum of instructors from the no tolerance whatsoever , must see it their way or you fail the class, to the friendly nice caring professors who actually care about their students. If you plan on going to NAU though, count housing out, they have a terrible housing life and reps. The RA's literally disrespect you, the reps you call cannot assist you and have this fake sarcastic helpful tone, and thats if you are lucky to get housing after your freshmen year. Goodluck.
While I had some good teachers while I was there, there was a majority of teachers who didn't seem to even care. It's a beautiful campus but the school only cares about taking your money and they don't provide you the help you need to succeed academically. They've accepted more students than they can handle, if you want to get accepted and not have a good place to live and want to feel overlooked or unheard than this is the school for you.
