It's been many years and you forget what a truly amazing place this is.
Marvellous place with a lots of pictures with own story. Recommended to everyone. 3 floor with all type of tests of paintings art.
Great space. First rate gallery staff- excellent with kids.
This is such a gorgeous gallery of all the amazing portraits of people from Shakespeare to Ed Sheeran. It can get packed when there're groups but otherwise it's a great place if you want to look at what these great people in history look like and what famous painters have portrayed. I am no expert on portraits but I do recommend their gift shop and book shop they do know how to please visitors of all tastes...
For those who love art the place is an absolutely must and no doubt, if yku have studied it, some of the paintings you studied will be hanging off these walls, they have paintings from different time periods in British History it's an iconic building situated oppositeTrafalfar Square, its a great place to spend a few hours exploring can't recommend it enough
Love the Portrait Gallery. It is quite literally overshadowed by the National Gallery but offers a very good collection of excellent portraits from the classic to the contemporary.
One of my favourite galleries in London. Each time I'm there, I discover something different. There's quite a collection of Turner paintings and a bit of each epoch. It's good to have 2 hrs to walk through the history of art. Don't miss the room 4, where The Ambassadors by Holbain are on display. There will be surprise.
For those who love art and especially painting can spend the whole day without getting bored. Fantastic
One of London's best galleries, go for the yearly photography exhibitions and the annual BP portrait awards, the main collection is also great.
Main interest was The unpublished portraits of Churchill. Nice display of Faces which could Be more familiar to native British residents.
A London favourite. Always interesting. But go early as it gets busy
Central location, great view across the top of Trafalgar Sq. Decent food and service.
Pretty boring. Built like a maze. Once you entered through the escalator, you have to go through some exhibitions to exit
Annual portrait competition contains excellent portraits. Well worth seeing.
Great place to spend quality times with kids as they freely explore the arts
The entrance is wonderful. The first floor is a special exhibition. When you walk in, the left and right sides are the stairs upstairs. It is a normal exhibition. People who know history, art and entertainment can play and guess who I am? The cards next to the painting will know who they are~
Interesting place to visit for british history through portraiture. Free, expansive and worth a trip.
Always a pleasure. Tudor Gallery is a personal favourite, but the whole place is vast and fascinating. It has an Imperialist and elitist air about much of the collection, but I suppose that reflects our history and culture. BP Award is an excellent annual attraction.
Cultural heritage in portraits, from tudors to contemporary.
Depends on tastes, Tudor's not my bag but such important history. Much preferred the more modern works.
One of the greatest portrait collections in the world
Love art, pop by and see all the beauty it has here
There are a lot of collections, there are many very interesting paintings!
Not to be confused with the National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery is next door. Surprisingly fantastic permanent collection of historical portraits from the Tudor period to the present. If you ever get a chance visit the annual 'Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize' which is currently being shown. Took friends who were visiting from abroad and after went for drinks nearby.
Loved it, easy to get into, cafe expensive(but worth it)
Staff very helpful, and nothing too much bother
Very nice painting museum, huge so select your paintings
In the continuity of the National Gallery we discover the royal families and other personalities on paintings.
Great gallery - wonderful free exhibitions and lovely cafe. Definitely worth a trip if you're around Trafalgar square.
It's a pity that Samuel Johnson meme portrait isn't on display that day
I always go to see the portrait competition ,I am never disappointed.
Nice gallery. Lots and lots of different portraits. Some things are free to see, but for some you need to buy ticket. You need some time to see and go through all of them. Also there are students studying for art and trying to make some drawings.
Best Gallery in the city!! If you have a passion for art and culture then get moving and come for a visit, it's free and very much awesome!
Rich oil painting portrait collection, worth visiting
Huge variety of portraits (I was surprised to see Rupert Brooke). A good place to visit if you have some to time spare.
Fun and free! Whats more to ask! Definitely check the gallery out
One of London's greatest galleries. Just the right size for getting you culture fix.
Free for all. Art from the middle ages till impressionism. Noice
shop assistants are very informative for all goods there, and gave me good recommendation as well. good history books for beginners there. also good books for kids.
Pre Raphaelite Sisters exhibition is fascinating, lovely to see Pre Raphaelite art that other exhibitions tend to ignore or underplay. Very well curated.
Confusing. Didn't know where to start or how to get around the best way.
Always a well curated (paid) feature exhibition on, however the standard collection is just amazing! Brilliant little book shop too
Saw the Michael Jakson exhibition loved and the brit pop exhibition was amazing
One of my best museums in London! Don't loose the Taylor Wissing exhibition!
I found the paintings of the Tudor dynasty and the era of the reforms fantastic where every single deputy is depicted in his features about 400. On tablet stations it is possible to know their names and history simply with a touch on the face. Fantastic
Wonderful place for art lover and the free drawing sessions on Fridays are amazing!
Love this gallery and if you have kids pay attention to the kids section in the shop! Amazing g range of kids art books
There some absolutely amazing pieces of art here from the oldest portraits to very modern and a wide variety of styles and definitely worth going to look around if you are by it.
Enjoyed the Tudor and Stuart galleries especially to see Elizabeth I, Bess of Hardwick & her husbands (4) Guido Fawkes and the Gunpowder plotters
This is definitely my favourite gallery in London! It's always been amazing. An excellent example of art coming through the centuries.
Always love visiting here. Regular exhibits are great and special exhibitions often even better. The competition exhibitions can be particularly impressive perhaps sometimes they are surprisingly amazing. But from the general exhibits ;- one not to miss is Emmeline pankhurst
.Enjoyed a quick free walk around. Lots of modern and historic paintings
I love The National Portrait Gallery. Portraits are fascinating and it houses both the historical and the contemporary with some fantastic exhibitions. I became a member last year, and indulged in the Audrey Hepburn and Vogue 100 exhibition more than once. The perks with membership are fantastic with previews, private viewings and other special events. well worth a visit at least once!!
Not my kind of museum. Sit in and have some nice surprises.
Fantastic place. I can only recommend it to everyone. A must-see when you're in London.
The famous portraits used in many textbooks and documentaries were originally here. The Queen of Queen Tudor, Shakespeare, romantic poets Keats, Byron, Shelley, Wordsworth, writer Jane Austen, scientists Darwin, Huxley Li and so on. There are often free lectures, workshops, etc. in the museum. You can learn in advance to participate!
The exhibit I went to here was great, but pretty small and quick given the ticket price.
