Well worth a visit. Easy to spend long or short visit.
Love this place. Amazing gallery. Great that its free to see these amazing treasures.
Well grouped portraits each with a brief summary of subject's life. Kept us engaged for a couple of hours.
Superb afternoon tea at the Portrait Restaurant, with a fantastic view. So British!
Worth paying for the special exhibitions here. Saw the Vogue exhibition here!
Not only has a vast collection of portraits but also holds interesting exhibitions
Good place to visit. Free to enter just give a donation when you leave.
Seen the Michael Jackson exhibition here, was very impressed.
Interesting attraction for tourists but more relevant to the British given the subject matter.
Don't get me wrong, I love the National - but the one star is for the one thing that has been annoying me so much, I simply cannot enjoy this place: it's stubborn refusal to seek a more humane, sponsor than rotten BP.
Countless demonstrations, letters of complaints and petitions have been ignored to date to take the bloody-money from a corporation that still rapes, exploits and pisses on a number of people, their lands and human rights.
And I'll be damned if I support any museum with such blatant disregard for humanity while at the same time giving us pretty images of it! Charge the public dammit, if you're that desperate for money!
But cut the sanctimonious bs!
Went to see the Pre Raphaelite Exhibition. Fantastic, really really good. You could easily spend half a day there.
Visited Giants of Victorian Photography exhibition, very good indeed.
Its free and the Art is great. What's not to like? A must see place. You will need at least 4 hours to enjoy the art. Could probably to a quick tour in 2 hours. So go there on a full stomach :) Lifts available.
The collection of portraits is simply beautiful.
Going to the next step without stopping .... a big mistake.
many beautiful portraits from every epoch. The gallery is designed to be entertaining. to pay particular attention to the special exhibitions. During our visit, this was a collection of works on michal jackson.
Blew my mind to start in the Tudor section. To see the well known portraits in real life, and to see how striking and stunning they were. Clean, airy building, well presented
Expansive collection. Not to be missed. Special exhibitions are a must!
Iconic art gallery, as a Portrait gallery, they don't come any better. Like the National Gallery next door, I never tire of visiting.
Cozy and pleasant museum to see, where what matters is the character portrayed, not the artist, highly recommended to spend a morning, find out a bit before the history of UK.
Fascinating to look at history through portraiture.
Love this place, always a pleasure to walk through these galleries. They always have varying interesting exhibitions. The staff are always friendly and approachable.
It's always a joy to go to the NPG. This visit was to see the Michael Jackson exhibition which was absolutely brilliant.
A fantastic quiet oasis in the middle of busy London, a place to relax and ponder as you walk round looking at the art works on show, from the Tudors to Ed Sheeran there is something for everyone.
Very clean open spaces. Good disabled access. Great exhibitions. Friendly and informative staff. Toilets nice and clean.
Portraiture generally feels more like history than art, couldn't find anything to get excited about but others will disagree.
Not bad. It is a museum of portraits of important British personalities. But it is not essential.
superb
It takes time to go around
Definitely worth a visit if you have a spare day in London. Some great art and free admission.
I absolutely love this place. I love to visit here when Im in London.
Always great to take relatives visiting that you don't want to talk to here about to start rebuilding again
I liked the flying and the air force the war was terrible. I like planes.
Sublime museum with so many works of art, a waking dream in the paradise of painting. A must
Terrific place to find the portrait of famous persons
The National Portrait Gallery has an amazing mix of portrait paintings. Entrance is free with occasional paid for exhibitions which are well worth it. Look out for the portrait photography competitions which are top quality!
Lovely portraits from round the world (especially the UK). Complimentary access to most of the exhibitions with a suggested donation.
The Pre Raphaelite Sisters exhibition was excellent.
I've always been drawn to portraiture, so this is a gallery that I frequent. I also enjoy the temporary exhibitions here over the years, particularly the annual portrait awards - where you see a mix of entrants with different techniques and backgrounds.
I went here several times in the past 12 months and had a ruddy lovely time.
Really nice gallery especially if you like history as you can see portraits of some of the people you've read about. The fact that it's free makes it even better. As an actor, if also recommend it as a place to go to research a character, although saying that, most of the eighteenth and nineteenth century portraits just look like Alec Guinness... As do the portraits of the men The cafe is also good
Had a great day at one of there youth workshops, and then had a lovely time exploring the gallery. Will be going back to see more soon.
Historic pictures displayed, explained clearly, and very interesting
Only had a few hours and so must visit again. Amazing place.
History comes to life through these portraits. See who you can recognise! Very talented artists old and new.
Unfortunately I was only working there for the day , but there was plenty to be impressed about.
Always interesting temporary exhibitions, the permanent collection is becoming a celebrity parade.
Lovely ambiance, great art, decent enough food. Love their shop.
Iconic paintings on display at this historic museum.
Gallery with works of art, which I probably don't understand from ignorant, not interesting.
Great venue but too expensive. No concessioons for over 60's unless on pension credit.
A tremendous gallery to visit, particularly the current exhibition on the Pre-Raphaelite women. One caveat, it's very busy but that is to be expected. Lots to see in the gallery. Enjoy!
A wonderland of fabulous painting to amaze and delight most tastes.
Good selection of, mainly, English portraits across the ages showing a wide range of people, artists and styles.
Very nice exhibitions and a couple of decent shops.
