Don't get me wrong, I love the National - but the one star is for the one thing that has been annoying me so much, I simply cannot enjoy this place: it's stubborn refusal to seek a more humane, sponsor than rotten BP.

Countless demonstrations, letters of complaints and petitions have been ignored to date to take the bloody-money from a corporation that still rapes, exploits and pisses on a number of people, their lands and human rights.
And I'll be damned if I support any museum with such blatant disregard for humanity while at the same time giving us pretty images of it! Charge the public dammit, if you're that desperate for money!
But cut the sanctimonious bs!

Its free and the Art is great. What's not to like? A must see place. You will need at least 4 hours to enjoy the art. Could probably to a quick tour in 2 hours. So go there on a full stomach :) Lifts available.

A fantastic quiet oasis in the middle of busy London, a place to relax and ponder as you walk round looking at the art works on show, from the Tudors to Ed Sheeran there is something for everyone.

The National Portrait Gallery has an amazing mix of portrait paintings. Entrance is free with occasional paid for exhibitions which are well worth it. Look out for the portrait photography competitions which are top quality!

I've always been drawn to portraiture, so this is a gallery that I frequent. I also enjoy the temporary exhibitions here over the years, particularly the annual portrait awards - where you see a mix of entrants with different techniques and backgrounds.

Really nice gallery especially if you like history as you can see portraits of some of the people you've read about. The fact that it's free makes it even better. As an actor, if also recommend it as a place to go to research a character, although saying that, most of the eighteenth and nineteenth century portraits just look like Alec Guinness... As do the portraits of the men The cafe is also good
