We really enjoyed our visit here. The grounds have changed since we were here about 20 years ago. Most of the trails were closed off for maintenance, but we did get to walk around much of the area. September is a nice time of the year to visit here.

This is an awesome monument and park. I have to say I always imagined the carvings to be much larger. They are large, but I imagined them even bigger! The trail that goes to the base of the monument is definitely worth the time to take.

Loved going here! I didn't want to go in the beginning because I've seen photos and it looks really far away, and I admit in my photos it does look far, but it is way closer than it looks. I got some awesome photos and they had great ice cream . The deck you look out on when you first walk to it is great for pictures and I definitely recommend going on the .6 mile walk to get even better photos.

We stopped at Mount Rushmore National Memorial on our way to Yellowstone. It was thrilling to see something that, up to this point, we had only seen in history books. It was a long walk from the parking area if you are walker-dependent like I am and that is my only complaint.

$10 per car for parking, great to see the famous Mount Rushmore. We did the short walk which I would say is worth doing but a warning - ends with a lot of steps up which can be tiring on a hot day! I think you can turn around and walk back the way you have come. Last time I visited here a few years ago was in March and there were mountain goats around. No mountain goats today but we saw a cute yellow bellied marmot. Great gift shop and really good ice cream

Would be better but 90% was closed off and there was NO social distancing measures outside. They were counting people going into the store but there were still A LOT of people. *Dogs are allowed up to a certain point - after that only service animals*

The amphitheater and visitors center were under renovation. We visited the Sculptor Center and listened to an excellent talk given by a young Park ranger on how Mt Rushmore came to become a National memorial. Then walked up the Presidential trail for a closer look at the carvings. Absolutely spectacular! Lovely gift shop, food court and facilities. Ample parking. A must do.

This was an awe inspiring visit. The sculpture is magnificent, but the story behind the decisions and efforts to complete the project are just as interesting. There is a bit of construction on part of the walkway but you can still get to directly below the presidents.

The last time we visited was early on a mid-April morning. This time we stopped by pretty late on a September evening. It was spectacular to see the monument lit up at night. All the kids were amazed by it.

We stopped by (mid-April) on our way through from Utah and it was a hit! The only cost was for parking. My 5-year-old can't stop talking about "the faces on the mountain", and it's been over a year. I wish I would have known in advance just how much there is. I always thought it was simply a magnificent sight and after you look, you go on your way. The magnificence can't be denied, but there is much more (aside from the gift shop). There is a museum underneath the viewing deck, which includes some interactive displays and videos/movies telling all about the project. Your appreciation increases when you understand all that went into approving, funding, planning, and finally implementing it. It is too bad they weren't able to finish it before the war interrupted things and brought it to a halt, but I am glad they got as far as they did. You will not be disappointed for stopping by.

It took us 50 minutes to get into the memorial. The line of cars was that long. Several people in front of us took a picture of what they could see and then turned around. Truthfully, it's hard to wait an hour to go somewhere when you are just in line on a steep hill. We waited because our kids really wanted to see it. They have a presidential trail to take where you can get a different view of each president. The visitor center has informative spots as well as a video and junior ranger program for the kids. There is a food court of sorts where you can get a variety of food from coffee to bison chili or bison burgers and more. Plenty of gift shops as well. Don't come on a super foggy day. You will see nothing. I'm not kidding. We tried to go the day before and the fog was so thick you couldn't see anything at all. It was heartbreaking for the many travelers who came so far and couldn't come back the next day like we did. That is one of the risks you take going out into nature and dealing with weather.

Very impressive to stand in front of mount rushmore. The only downside is that its very hard to judge how big it actually is. It almost feels like its a smaller stage-model of a mountain. Ofcourse the more you read about it the more interesting it gets. And lets be honest, if you come close to Mount Rushmore. You should not skip it !

400 workers and 14 years with limited tools and technology through the 1930's was an impressive accomplishment and probably an amazing thing to see in 1941. Unfortunately now days, there's so much better and bigger things to see and do. I was driving through SD on I90 and decided to make the additional 70 mile roundtrip (35 miles to/from I90) and regretted it as soon as I seen what I thought certainly had to be a fake Mount Rushmore, before I was going to actually arrive at the real Mount Rushmore. It was so much smaller than expected and farther away than I thought it would be. Sculpted on El Capitan or Half Dome in Yosemite would be mind blowing still to this day! The historical aspect of it is still there for who and what it represents, but unless you can step back into 1941, you likely will not be impressed. I was more impressed with The Worlds Only Corn Palace in Mitchel South Dakota. This is for history people.

I can't believe how the eyes look so real, just an amazing sculpture and carving, restaurant is rather overpriced, as you would expect these places, but a lot of different food to choose from... Was going to get an icecream but it was like $8.. for one scoop, however again, great heritage and an astonishing monument...

It was pretty cool although the parking pass system makes it sound like you cant pay at the exit gate, but you can. Also they need to clearly mark that the left path has no stairs or steps, while the path on the right is about twice as long and 80 percent stair steps. I recommend!

Very cool place! It is something everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. Remember that it is not yet friendly, so leave the pets in a cool place like we left ours in the air conditioned RV and drove the car. It was 11$ to park, but the pass is good for one year. They have a gift shop and snacks and ice cream on the way to the memorial. Very well maintained.

Wonderful creations with historical significance. Dominating Mount Rushmore in Black Hills, this National Memorial is consisting of the stone sculptures of four heads of the greatest American Presidents who had been chosen to represent the Birth, Growth Development, and Preservation of the Country. It was truly an amazing experience to view this spectacular Memorial..I had tried very hard to frame the America's national Flag together with the Sculptures. Luckily, the result was satisfactory. A must visit site.

It was awesome to actually see this monument. The park was closed off, at the closest point, for renovations. I wish they had told us about this prior to paying to enter and given us the option. We could see the monument itself from the highway and the only reason for entering the park was to get a closer view for pics, which we were unable to do. Having said that, the experience when you consider the history, was incredible.

Great National Park.

Great National Park.
Detailed exhibits on the creation of the monument.
Approximately 1.5 mile walking trail winds its way around the base of the monument.
Wonderful evening presentation of the monument, its construction, why the Presidents were chosen to be placed on the monument.
Veterans and Active Duty military are requested from the audience to retire colors and fold the National Flag.

Wanted to see this since childhood; finally got the chance. Spring could be very bad for clear view as presence of fog is certain and you could see nothing. Had to wait two days before we got the chance to look at the magnificent national monument. Park in lot 3 from which it s easy to walk to the monument. Food court; Restrooms and ice cream at the site. Paid $10 for parking which is valid for one whole year. You get to see small documentary on how it s made etc on screen.

Mt Rushmore is something everyone should visit. It's amazing to think of what they had to go through to make this happen. The drive to get there is beautiful as well. You can spend a lot of time here and hike a couple of trails or just make it a fairly quick visit. When we left, we took route 16A, which is a gorgeous (but long and winding) drive heading south from Mt. Rushmore. There are some cool tunnels to go through, one of which you can see Mt. Rushmore through in the distance.

Our kids enjoyed this national memorial. On a hot day there are plenty of indoor buildings to explore and cool down. They have a huge gift shop and small bookstore so bring your wallet.

Expect a $10 parking fee
They have a cafeteria and ice cream incase you get hungry.

They have a little Ranger badge that your kids can earn. You have to go around and find certain items and talk to a ranger and learn a little bit about the park. My girl thought it was awesome and they love to get him a little badge at the end.

The Shrine of Democracy, beautiful and moving. Join the 2.5 million people who make the trek annually. Cross it off on your bucket list. While in Keystone, visit the Borglum Experience, a museum with artifacts of Gutzon Borglum, the man who created Mount Rushmore. You'll learn a plethora of information regarding Gutzon, specifics of Mt Rushmore and a variety of unique sculptures he created. This museum is NOT at Mount Rushmore, it is in the town of Keystone.
