National Opera and Ballet Theater Maria Biesu
Biesu (Mold. Teatrul Na ional de Oper i Balet Maria Bie u din Chi in u) is a musical theater in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
It was founded in 1956 on the basis of the Moldavian Opera, Ballet and Drama Theater, which in turn was created in 1955 on the basis of the Moldavian Music and Drama Theater. The first director of the theater (1956-1964) was the composer D. G. Gershfeld - the theater opened on June 9, 1956 with the production of his opera Grozovan .
The first opera performance - "Grozovan" by Gershfeld took place in 1956, the first ballet - "Bakhchisarai Fountain" by Asafiev - in 1957. In July 1957, the opera and ballet troupes of the theater became an independent collective. The theater staged a piece by Moldavian composers: operas - Aurelia by Gershfeld (1959), Heart of Domnica by Styrchi (1960, in the new edition of Heroic Ballad, 1970), ballets - Dawn by Zagorsky (1960), Broken Sword ( 1960), Anthony and Cleopatra (1965) and Arabesques (1970) E. Lazarev; world classics and works of Soviet composers, including the opera Into the Storm by Khrennikov (1962), Optimistic Tragedy by Kholminov (1967), The Taming of the Shrew by Shebalin (1972), Keto and Kote Dolidze (1972), Aleko Rachmaninov (1973), ballets - The Thunder Path by Karaev (1961), Young Lady and the Hooligan to music by Shostakovich (1968), Carmen Suite by J. Bizet - R. Shchedrin (1971), etc.

The opera company toured in Romania (1957), the ballet - in Bulgaria (1971), and later in many other countries of the world.

In 1980, a new theater building was built in Chisinau at Lenin Avenue (now Stefan cel Mare St.), 152. Architects: N. Kurennoy, A. Gorshkov. Sculptors: V. Novikov, N. Sazhin, B. Dubrovin, G. Dubrovin.

The theater regularly hosts various concerts and festivals, including the famous festival Maria Biesu Invites .

I liked the inscription of the name of the theater, but the building itself was somehow not impressed. The reconstruction of the square in front of the entrance was carried out, the tiles were changed.

A lovely theater, but there's always a long queue to get a drink during breaks, and to get back coats

Old not restored building. Located right in the center. Not comfortable seats as in most old, similar buildings. All of them are without repair, everything is very old. There is no parking at all. It accommodates a lot of people and on the day of an event you have to leave the car for several blocks.
But here the majority of any significant events take place and there are still no other alternatives.
