Went there because it was free to access and the 5 stars reflect the price of entry. Some original and beautiful pieces but some not. Over all quite nice. Not very attractive for young kids.
My favorite museum in Ottawa. The building is an architectural marvel.
A secret tip of many locals is the gift shop which is accessible to anyone and a great place to buy amazing gifts.
The map and the layout of the rooms can be really tiring. I am referring here to the fact that there is a room of contemporary art in the midst of Renaissance art ...
Great experience! Art was truly inspirational and breath taking! Must see!!
Of course we must have, really a beautiful exhibition on Canadian painters. Small flat, There are folding chairs at the entrance that you must transport all along the visit, if you want to sit during your visit.
Caveat: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Didn't like the modern stuff most of which could be palmed off as high school work writ large. The historical section rates four stars but the lighting could have been better. Art galleries are usually frequented by the 1 per centers, at least as reflected by the prices in the cafeteria.
How The Gallery and all it's pieces are built around a modest church is outstanding. 5 *.
The place to be if you love paintings. I found the exhibitions to be wonderful and the collection extensive. I visited the permanent gallery, 2017 Canadian Biennial and James Wilson Morrice. The A.K. Prakash Collection in Trust to the Nation.
Was very nice. It is maze like though to travel through.
Loved the gallery. One arrogant security guard. All the rest of the staff were great!
Great facility. Went to the Gaugin special exhibition and it was great. Parking underground is very easy.
A magnificent museum. A large number of paintings to discover or rediscover. The proximity of works is a plus without question.
A must see if you are in Ottawa. Incredible art collection & the building & grounds of the gallery are equally amazing.
Fabulous space, even though it's often being improved/maintained. Super chill cafe. Nice stuff in the shop.
Really interesting variety of old artwork from all over the world
Absolute must see in Ottawa. Great collection of contemporary and indigenuous art. The inner layout is great. Expect to spend at least 3 to 4 hours here.
It was late, so I couldn't go inside the museum, but it was really nice just by its appearance, and it was nice to have a variety of things in the souvenir shop. I still had a lot of things to buy in the future, but I was sorry that I couldn't buy it. Especially Klimt teacup and teapot set!
There were so many things to see, I don't know where to begin. We got stuck in the elevator there one time.
It is well worth a visit, with a lovely shop and cafe.
A beautiful collection of European art
He went to Monet's exhibition, which was much worse than his paintings from the main exhibition. Do not pay attention to the wretched contemporary art and politically correct annuacs - here is a wonderful European collection, there are ALL
Large art gallery with impressive temporary exhibitions.
Great architecture. Group of 7. Guest exhibitions. Part of Canada's pride. I'm proud to be part of it.
Both the building and its contents are very inspirational. The special exhibit of impressionist work on loan from Denmark is worth a visit alone. But there are many other works of art that make this gallery special, such as, many pieces by the Group of Seven.
It has a very good collection of Group of Seven and European art. We were there almost the whole day and we barely went through those sections. It would require more than one day to go through everything. The architecture of the museum itself is great. The cafeteria has a good variety of food and very nice view.
I love the art gallery! The whole building is absolutely gorgeous and it'll look even better when they have all of the recent work completed. I love going on the free nights (Thursdays) and enjoying the atmosphere and beauty of the place. The Canadian section is always well-filled, their feature galleries are gorgeous, and the European and American section has many famous pieces. Coming here is always a delight and an adventure in finding new art pieces around the collection as they come in.
Nowhere like it, a true national treasure. Give yourself a full day, or plan to spread it out over a couple of visits. Like many museums or galleries, it could benefit from just a few more progress to sit, but the visit is always worth it.
Went here while they had the Monet art work on display. It was $12 each for adults to get in. $6 extra each if you wanted a headset. This wasn't necessary unless you preferred it. All descriptions were under the photos. Gallery is very big and there is lots to see. There are many different kinds of art too. In the Monet exhibit you were unable to take pictures. This place is great.
An open-air museum with a modern design.
You can see a wonderful exhibition.
Spent 3 hours here and did not see it all. Will be back!
The halls are a maze and difficult to navigate. The floor plan does not show the whole thing. The exhibits and staff are great
The building itself is worth the price of admission. An absolutely stunning space. Canadian galleries are closed until spring 2017, but despite that disappointment there was plenty more to see. Will definitely be back, likely more than once
I liked the design of this place! They have a garden section that was very pretty.
Vast and varied collection of art. Much improved user experience of late. Cafeteria is over priced and somewhat disappointing.
More art than I could take In for a few hours, and enjoyed each of the rooms. Well organized, spacious, and bright.
An unmissable event for art lovers. Well organized spaces and numerous operators available to visitors.
We come here every few years and it is always interesting.
had great time with friends wonderful.....event tip the chef more food
Beautiful museum! It takes 4 hours to have time to see everything.
After the Gaugin Portrets exposition , I visited also the other departments. It's worth to spend nearly a whole day in this beautiful modern building, which is full of interesting pieces of art.
A must, including for their special exhibitions. A flat: the cost of the entrance fee too high for my taste
This place is a national treasure a must see over several visits. The music in the main floor cathedral is an inspiration.
Love the paintings n can't forget the giant spider art. Stunning
Breathtaking museum, especially with its splendid spider
The architecture of the museum is bursting with light
The real art was great, the contemporary art was a joke
It's an art museum. Lol, not like the Getty museum in LA but it does have the appeal
Very nice and varied collection. I found the contemporary department especially worthwhile, but also impressed by the indigenous art collection. Building itself is also worth the effort.
Fantastic experience.
An amazingly beautiful building, consistently interesting exhibits, and very affordable (see: Thursdays after 430)
Diversity of art collections and cozy hidden places to rest during visit.
Building is nice. Maman spider is nice.
The fact that only the permanent collection is free on Thursdays after 5:00pm is not nice.
This art gallery would be much friendlier to citizens and tourists if there was a day where feature exhibitions would be free.
Located in a very iconic building, with a huge spider in front of it, the National Gallery of Canada is for sure one of the main attractions of Ottawa. It spreads over 2 levels, with canadian, american, european and contemporary works, some of which quite interesting (I liked for example the paintings of Lawren S. Harris). There's also an impressionism collection, gathered by the danish insurance magnate Wilhelm Hansen. Great value for money (20 C$).
Very wide selection of art. emphasis on Canadian artists and heritage pieces.
Voice of Fire c214 alone is worth the price of admission
