The National Gallery is always worth a visit when visiting Ottawa if you appreciate artistic interpretion in all forms from traditional to the very best in contemporary styles. It is easy to spend a day here without being conscious of the passage of time. The Gallery also offers a very good restaurant as well as an excellent gift shop to make your visit complete. If you appreciate innovative architectural design and interpretation, you will not be disappointed in this unique architectural gem when visiting our nation's capital.

Stopped by when I went to Canada for a business trip. Very nice building with the famous spider at the front. The interior was also nice. A lot of artwork that a day is not enough to take a look of all that. Balanced btw classic and modern pieces. staffs were nice. Fairly quiet and and small number of people for the size of the museum.

Beautiful Architecture. Art to compete with the world. Van Gogh, Monet, the Group of Seven & Tom Thomson, Emily Carr, Canadian Inuit & First Nations & European Art. Must see Destination.

Parking is located in the Gallery with the entrance on Sussex Drive. They do have a number of EV stations located near the Parking Ticket Machines. Very limited so it is on a first cone first serve basis. They are on both levels.

A Membership is worth it. If you are like me & want to be surrounded by Art on a daily basis, get one. Especially for the travelling Show. It is always worth the Trip to OTTAWA.

We're from Kingston, Ontario and don't feel we've received full benefits from our federal taxes unless we've made at least one annual visit to Ottawa. And at the top of our list of places to visit is the National Gallery of Canada.

The Gallery is always so spectacular to see resting on its own plaza and so near to the Parliament buildings. The architecture is beautiful with all the vertical sections of stone and glass.

Once inside, you climb a long tall ramp to large circular space. The ceiling is so far above you that you feel like ant when you sit down. Through all the glass, you see the Parliament buildings again but also with great views of the Ottawa River and the City. It's a wonderful place to have lunch on occasions when it being served. If not, there is a spacious cafeteria which also has great views as well as more selection.

From there, you walk down a long tall hallway and then enter the galleries and the current exhibitions. On our most recent visit, we were thrilled to see some of the most recognizable work Group of Seven.

Amazing art, it can take a couple of hours to go through the whole collection, absolutely worth it though. I didn't know they had some of Claude Monet's paintings so it was a nice surprise for me (spoiler alert sorry)

Nice!

The National Gallery of Canada architecture is a piece of art itself, well worth a visit even if you are not one of the art gallery visiting types. That said, the art on display in the gallery is a great collection of Canadian art - ranging from native American art to to modern movers and shakers, providing the visitor with a view into the art history and the art scene of Canada. At the time of my visit, the exhibition Anthroposcene was on display. The amazing exhibition is likely to color my review in an even more positive way.

Top of the line. We were approached bye but seemed like a volunteer who spent 10 minutes or more with us explaining the history of a particular artist whose paintings were being exhibited. Unexpected and enjoyable. Very well maintained and arranged gallery. We also enjoyed the gift shop.

Extensive collections of Canadian, Indigenous, Contemporary, European, American, and Asian art. I was impressed to see art from famous artists like Dali, Klimt, Monet, Van Gogh, Magritte, the Group of Seven, etc. I ended up spending 3.5 hours here since there is so much to see.

I was quite disappointed, security guards in everyroom, they were bored wanted to talk and kept eyeing everyone down. Felt weird. Art was nothing to mock at, semi large collection but yet AGO has more. Overall id say it could be skipped and you wouldnt miss anything.

The National Art Gallery is hosting a special exhibit on impressionism. The exhibit is tastefully displayed, with a variety of paintings representative of impressionism. The Gallery has a cafe that is a nice spot to stop and grab a drink/snack while sitting tables viewing the Parliament Buildings.

The architecture of this place alone is worth a visit, but their collection is great! As someone who is relatively knowledgable of art, I appreciate their curated collection.
great location for a date, family excursion, friendly outing or field trip. As I've heard, they host several weddings in the Great Hall.

This grand art gallery houses an impressive collection of significant Canadian art as well as some great old world European master works. Paid parking is located underneath the building via a nearly invisible entrance off Sussex.

It's an art gallery. There was a lot of great art to be seen especially the Renaissance collection, however, objectively, the quality and breadth of the art left me wanting. Understandably it can't have a collection as interesting as other similarly sized galleries that have had more time to collect. All the same, some of the art was very uniquely Canadian, definitely worth seeing.

The gallery itself is beautiful and the architecture is magnificent.

The Impressionist exhibit featured the collection of a Danish family (bequeathed to Denmark) which comprises works by French and Danish Impressionists. Creative presentation in that one exhibit is in the family's salon. Enjoyed seeing works by several Impressionists, well-presented.

Seeing as how a large part of the museum is closed for renovations looking ahead to 2017, paying full price for admission plus an extra fee to see the special exhibit didn't seem quite fair. The museum is beautiful and nicely air conditioned, but do be aware that a large portion of the museum is not open due to the renovations taking place for Canada's 150th birthday.

Went to see the Han Ran exhibit of Japanese photography. The presentation was very good and we found the selection of photographs very interesting. However, in a few places it seemed that the English descriptions were not correctly translated. For example "Emperor Showa" is incorrect - there was no emperor by this name. "The Showa Emperor" (i.e. the emperor of the Showa period) would be correct.

Some of the exhibits are not my thing, but that's art. And I will always support it all including the art that "Isn't my thing" to hopefully always having it there for everyone!

Worth the visit!! AND they take American Express!
