This contractor came out and gave an estimate on some slate stones and stone wall that had shifted in my yard. He requested $1,500. up front (this was half of what the estimate would be) and that he would be out once the weather was better. This money was given on 2/6/2025 in person. I did not hear from him for quite a while. I reached out and asked on September 3rd to please give back the deposit since it was obvious that this work was never going to happen. I was told with an apology that he would give back the deposit by mail. It is now 12/30/2025 and still have not received my deposit back. I am a widow raising a teenager and work full time. I was horrified that he asked to mail this refund out (and not come out in person to hand a large sum of money back to me), but, I felt that maybe there was a chance of getting my deposit back. Needless to say, I have been taken advantage of and will never see that down payment again. Buyer beware.
