I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled to write one after the terrible customer service I received today at this store. I am new to sewing and have heard great things about this store and wanted to check it out for myself. I was very excited to get help/advice on starting my first quilt however every staff member here was less than helpful- actually they were condescending, rude and abrupt. I went to another sewing store closeby and was treated with kindness and they were very helpful and walked me through everything. Do not recommend coming here if you are a beginner sewer or anyone else for that matter. Avoid at all costs.

Beautifully laid out store - everything was neat, tidy and organized. I was impressed with their fabric selection.
Unfortunately I did not experience the friendly, helpful staff that others (including my mom who referred me to this store) speak of. Hopefully on a return visit I will have a different experience. I felt like a bit of an inconvenience getting my fabric cut, I had three bolts and was trying to calculate the amount I would need for the last one while the other two were cut and I was made to feel bad that I didn't have it all off the top of my head (which had there been a line up I would have completely understood, but there wasn't).
A little off-putting for a newer sewer, but the store itself has amazing content so I will be back.

My Sewing Room is a vestige of another time. But not in a good way.

My own experience with them has been difficult. There was a discrepancy over what was agreed as part of a bundle deal, and it ended with My Sewing Room standing their ground and telling me You never wanted this item , offering a 30% discount instead. Funny, because I was sure I did want this item! This total lack of integrity over a few hundred dollars is more telling than anything.

EDIT:

There are a few important points of clarification to make:

I did not decline the inclusion of the 14x14'' hoop on the day of purchase.I made it clear I was interested in other accessories, purchasing over $500 worth of other goods that day. I spoke with someone on the phone that day that assured me the hoop was mistakenly not included in the accessories.

When I spoke too Lea on the phone, she made me aware of the cost of the hat hoop. This was a miscommunication from the day of the sale discussing accessories. I apologies and returned the conversation to the 14x14'' hoop. This is still my preferred resolution, as we agreed it was included in the total price paid.

Love this place. The few times I have been in the service was excellent. Very knowledgeable staff who got me exactly what I needed, and quick. I love that they offer sewing classes as well (at least they did pre-covid) and if they ever start offering classes for Singer machines I will definitely take them!

I brought my old sewing machine in to see if it is worth to repair her and I received the best customer service ever - and she is working again. Thank you, Cam, for your tenacity to get her going again!

I m a life long asthmatic and take lung steroids twice daily. Strapping a cloth around my nose and mouth and breathing in fabrics is completely brainless yet I m looked at like the bad guy and denied entry because I refuse to jeopardize my health? This is a blatant disregard for medical exemptions (for which I do not have to explain myself) and a total lack of common sense.

It's not the law, it's your businesses decision to refuse to accept mask exemptions. We're past the point of excuses and I'm done supporting businesses that refuse to acknowledge basic Canadian liberties.

I vote with my feet and I ll spend money elsewhere. Enough is enough with this garbage. Too many sheep and not enough Shepard s!

Don t waste your money on sewing classes here. You get better value from YouTube. They offered online classes due to Covid but then the instructor spent all her time helping those who were present in person. How is that even possible?

Edited to add:

Well I certainly won t be in any future classes with you that s for sure. Notice no denial that what I said is true. How can you be having in-person adult classes during a Covid pandemic? I ll avoid your store like the plague. Have a great day!

Store employees let you browse. If you need help, go to the front counter where you find friendly customer service from Sandy. Well kept store. Nice selection of fabrics and notions. Really like their sale days.

I followed my friend to Spruce Meadows Fabric fair in 2018. I did not sew or quilt at that particular time. At the end of the day the only thing I had in my hand was catalogue of classes offered at this store. I was impressed at the many classes available. I signed up for the beginner quilt class. Since then I have bought 2 sewing machines from them, and now hubby got into making quilts, so he too has bought a machine from this company..

I like how the staff and instructors have made me feel comfortable, in an area I knew nothing about. They have answered many questions to ensure I was comfortable with my sewing machines (which I also appreciate the instruction video's they provide on YouTube).

What an amazing selection of fabrics, books, and notions!! On everyone of my visits someone is helping me to find a particular notion, offering suggestions for fabric selection, or having a friendly chat with the staff

This is my go to quilt shop
