Looking at YELP reviews we were hesitant about eating here. Stayed at hotel 1 block down and decided to give it a try. Came here with a party of 10 and we all absolutely loved it. Food was great, people were nice and prices were average for New Orleans.

If you don't spend some time here and enjoy the outstanding fare and atmosphere you are missing out. Fried gator is extraordinary and the bread pudding is incredible. Staff is very friendly, service is fast and the whole place just feels like a big family gathering hall with fun live music. And for a special bonus, treat yourself to the Sazarac cajun old fashioned!!

My husband & I ate there today for an early dinner. I ordered the special, the blackened redfish topped with a shrimp etouffee sauce. My husband ordered a bowl of Mulate's Jambalya (chicken & sausage smothered with onions & rice).
My meal was good, the fish a tad overcooked.
The astonishing surprise was my husband's jambalya. There was no chicken, no onions, 5 tiny pieces of sausage and tons of rice for $16.50!!!
When the waiter asked how the food was, we told him we were surprised with the abundance of rice & very little meat (no chicken at all) in the jambalya. He didn't seem to care about our concern.
We paid the bill and on the way out asked to speak to the manager. She listened & then told us how jambalya is made. I said that historically it has more meat. She acted quite indifferent, like she didn't care about us as customers. Then asked us if we had already paid (which we had) and then said, "What do you want me to do about it"? I think she was rude and disinterested.
Food is pricey! Don't order the Jambalya (unless you just want tons of rice)!
I'd have given this place more stars if I thought the manager really cared about us as patrons.

Big waste of money. The food is bad. Their catfish house special was tough. All the sides were mediocre. And all the meals are $20+. I would have to reccomend your favorite fast food restaurant over this. I'm most upset that I could have spent my money at the many deserving restaurants within walking distance.

Mulate's had great food, which I would describe more as comfort food, and it was delish! I ordered the Shrimp Platter that was super tasty and I could not finish it. The french fries are great and I couldn't stop eating them. Above all, my favorite thing was the Virgin Island Painkiller made with pineapple juice, orange juice & coconut cream topped with Pusser s BVI Royal Navy Rum & dusted with fresh nutmeg. I could have kept drinking those all night, but my hubby stopped me! There's also great Zydeco bands that play throughtout the afternoon and evening. This is definite "do not miss" place to eat in NOLA.

From our polite, courteous, helpful waiter Troy. Through the appetizers, and finally to the main course. The whole experience was awesome. The smoked oysters for an appetizer were some of the best food that had ever passed my lips.

The food was fine, nothing to get overly excited about. I had a muffaletta with jambalaya and fries. The service was a little off, the waitress wasn't sure of the menu and tried to sway us to the most expensive items on the menu for LUNCH! I wish there were lunch portions and prices, that would have made the whole experience a lot better.

I had the seafood Alfredo which was delicious. I practically scraped my bowl. The hurricane I had was GREAT! I love that the restaurant gives the option of making the food spicier. That's a huge plus!

Service and atmosphere were great. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. Live music and huge portions of food! The fried and grilled shrimp were very good and all the food tasted fresh. The plate I got was huge and well worth the price. Some of the plates were over priced, but food was definitely good.

A first time visitor to New Orleans and I thought this might fit the bill for the Cajun experience. The Zydeco music was catchy and got my foot tapping providing some atmosphere to what is a large open plan restaurant. We tried a couple of Creole platters between two of us which was plenty especially as it was almost all deep fried. The food was OK without being anything special, the staff pleasant but adding the music lifted it from a 3 to a 4 star.

The food has excellent taste for casual fare. However, extremely over priced due to its proximity to the Carnival Cruise Line port location (basically across the street). For example, an oyster platter is $25 compared to Felix's Restaurant (a few blocks away) for only $18--for the same amount of food--which is as good or better. Great food in a pinch, but you are going to pay the price--literally.

This was a very disappointing experience! After recommendation from our Bus Tour Guide we went thinking we'd get an authentic and quality experience. I should have known from the first sip of my beer which was very underwhelming, as were the Gumbo and Jambalaya and then a mixer plate of fried rubbish. Over-priced and bad quality compared to some amazing valued experiences in other places around town. Seriously, this is just a money trap for Tourists and as underwhelming, as are the band!

Had the Lump Crabmeat Au Gratin. Decedent blend of crab, cheese, heavy cream and cajun seasoning. Hard working band playing live had patrons up and dancing to the Cajun music. Great atmosphere.

All the right ambiance for NOLA and all things Cajun! Pricey yes but also delicious and definitely go hungry!!!! The shrimp and corn bisque was great but I was extremely happy with the Redfish and Crawfish cream sauce! Do not skip the coleslaw SO GOOD and do not substitute the twice baked potato.

My Sorority sisters and I arrived at this place starving so we place our food order with our drink order waitress takes at least 35mins to come out and tell me that what I ordered wasn't available they ran out why did I have to wait an half hour to find this out if my order was put in with my drink then my sorors food comes out lukewarm. It was just a disappointing the wait time for our food, the food it's self everything.

In town for a trade show at the convention center. I was walking by and heard a great zydeco band playing. Stopped in at the bar for a cold one and some jambalaya. The place was packed. No tables to be had. Coming into town again next week and will definitely stop in again (maybe even make a reservation). This a great place to go if you don't want to deal with the French Quarter.

This restaurant is close to where we stayed. We gave it a try it was great. The waiter we did not know the name he was very attentive. We ordered a grill platter and a seafood Gumbo they were all great! Small size Gumbo is good enough. The live music show was very nice and. Number of old couples went dancing. It was cheerful. If we visit back NOLA will come back here again!
