Muir Wood Adolescent and Family Services Review

In comparison to another residential facility, we found Muir Wood to be focused on helping the child vs. just running a business. The Dr. s and therapists were great, our child made progress after a long time of spiraling downward, and expenses and the entire process was transparent. Additionally the classes and group sessions offered to parents were exceptional.

My son has just left Muir Woods after a 7 week stay. I wish I could convey the level of insight, care and empathy that our family experienced. He was very sick- physically, emotionally, psychically- with an addiction that was even deeper than we were aware of. We were desperate for help but also extremely cautious in turning over our most important piece of ourselves to strangers. We were scared, reticent, a little suspicious maybe about sending him away. Eventually you realize you must. We researched many programs in many states and landed on Muir Woods. From the first moment of outreach to our arrival at their doorstep to understanding the complex world of insurance to planning for our son s transition- the team has been responsive, informative, supportive and loving. Yes, I said it. Loving. Our therapist ( whole family is in recovery! ), psychiatrist, administrators, RAs- the best. The space feels like home (but a really nice home with an incredible chef!). The parent weekends were informative and welcoming. I know if you re reading this, you re in a dark place. We were there too. My son is still a work in progress- we all are. But hope has been restored to our lives through the Muir Woods Experience. I wish every young person in crisis could be granted this gift.

Muir Wood is an excellent option for your struggling teenage son. I recommend this treatment home to all those looking for a safe and effective option to help get your son back on track. It worked for our family.

I cannot say enough positive things about this facility. The staff is excellent and the Clinical Director, Liz Fischel may very well be an Angel on Earth. Keep in mind that the major hurdle to your experience here will be your insurance company. We have Kaiser which is another blessing that made this experience so positive. Have faith that Muir is there to help your son!

Muirwood is one of the most beautiful campuses I ve ever visited and the staff is highly compassionate and experienced. I would strongly recommend this program for anyone in need of help for their teenage son.

I was here for 90 days. It s a scam. Don t send your kids here. I ve stayed in contact with over 40 kids I went with and only one is still sober. The owners are in it for the money. The chef is great though. And Keith. Everyone else was mids.

Muirwood has made a lasting impact on my life, I miss all of the staff, they treated me like figures in my life I have always wanted, the other clients made my last day one of the best days of my life, the home cheff made food equal and better to that of some very expensive restaurants I have been to. I can say 100% I miss being in this place. The counselors taught me tools I used just 10 minutes ago and I am so thankful for my time spent there. I would recommend to anyone. Scott Sowle and the rest of his entire Team work magic with their Clients and Families. Scott is an industry expert that is sought out by many for his counsel and guidance. He is known throughout the county as a pioneer that builds treatment programs based upon the foundation of solid clinical curriculum. Scott is has integrity, is ethical and incredibly knowledgeable. His Team comprise of national speakers that educate on mental health, addiction and family systems. His facility is gorgeous. It is an environment for young people to begin to explore their inner challenges and create long lasting solutions. The families continue to experience positive results, therefore I will continue to refer Clients.

Muir Wood has been a blessing for our family. The entire staff was unbelievably supportive, not only to our son in his time of crisis, but to our entire family. While everyone's journey is different, and the future is ultimately up to the individual, the Muir Wood experience gave our son the reset he needed, and taught him the skills necessary to continue on his path to sobriety when he returned home. Can't thank you all enough.

Muir Wood Adolescent and family services is a caring and professional environment. My son loved it there. Our experience With admitting him was emotionally easier because he did ask to go away for treatment and we knew he was struggling with some mental health issues. The dual treatment program was an excellent fit for him and I feel it is for most boys since many suffer from anxiety. It is a home-like-setting that is beautiful and comfortable. My son wanted to stay longer if insurance would have allowed it. He stayed 37 days which 45-60 was what I was hoping for. He came along way in those 37 days. His whole attitude and insight on his life was more positive. It gave his body & brain a chance to heal and it was tough he said for a few weeks with the transition but after that he loved the positive & caring atmosphere. He bonded well with the other boys and staff. The psychiatrist is amazing doing a full psychological evaluation and being more on the holistic side yet listening to the boys symptoms and figuring out the right medications to help them. The group therapy and individual therapy is awesome. Food was amazing my son said. He learned how to be accountable for himself and learned great coping skills with stresses. The parent support groups were so useful for me as well as the family therapy sessions. The program treats the teen as a whole including the family unit. The teacher there is amazing with putting no academic pressure on the boys since they are healing yet helps them get ahead if they can. My son said it was so nice to be around other boys that share in the same struggles and are all working toward the same goal to stay sober.
My advice for other parents is that there will be ups and downs with emotions and some kids do ask to go home but my son assured me that they really are in the best care at Muir Wood. The transition home was good and he is still using the coping skills he learned.
