Mt. Everest Academy used to be a very good school....

Mt. Everest Academy used to be a very good school. It fostered a good environment and allowed their students to flourish. Their motto told all, Do school differently.

They provided a safe and nurturing environment for their students and allowed them to go their own pace. In short, Mt. Everest Academy was definitely the best school I d ever gone to during this time.

Now, fast forward to current times and this school has completely gone downhill. Please don t let their placement in the top schools fool you, they are not the same school they used to be and I m willing to bet that they ll lose that place fairly soon, considering their disorganized nature. Additionally, their number four place has definitely gotten to their head.

The reason why they continue to look so good is because of one thing they don t tell you. If you drop below a certain grade (typically a C), instead of giving you support like they used to, they threaten to kick you out. If you continue to produce such results, they proceed to get rid of you. Now, they do this because of numbers. If a student is doing subpar, it brings down their numbers a bit, which makes them look bad. They no longer care about their students.

Why is this so important? Well, they used to be a sort of sanctuary for kids who were bullied, struggling to fit in socially or in traditional classroom settings, and for those who practiced the arts or other extracurricular activities, but they no longer stand for this. They are a pitiful and toxic shell of what they used to be.

On another note, they don t care about the students. So much so that if you do attend this school, do make sure that you do not struggle in your personal life or take a medical leave. In a few cases, they will use this against you (no matter if you ve gone through an important surgery or an older brother is in a coma, both actual cases of why a couple students got kicked out). They don t care about anything but their numbers, and their attitudes, as well as how they handle things, is a blatant reflection of this.

Unfortunately, there are a few teachers here that are amazing and are too good for this school (namely, Mr. Greenwood, Mr. Huy, Mr. Spiegelberg, Ms. Pachon, and Mr. Nielsen). This being said, Mt. Everest Academy s classes are not the problem (mostly). These teachers in particular care deeply about the students and are genuinely good teachers and people. There are some teachers (which also happens to be the majority), however, that do not care at all about their students, don t communicate, and are horrendous teachers, and sometimes people, as a whole. They even keep a teacher who teaches physics here, even though he s been retired for years, because he works part time and (from my understanding) he s free. They do this, despite receiving several complaints about him sharing and mocking students grades to other students, consistently losing paperwork, and overall, being a severely substandard teacher in general.

In conclusion, I thoroughly recommend that you reconsider sending your kid to this school. There are so many better alternatives for nontraditional schools and I plead that you do not let their numbers fool you and become nothing but a statistic to add or remove from their image. Many students were cast aside in order to obtain a certain reputation, and I honestly think that a private catholic school has more respect for their students than this disgusting excuse for a school.

I couldn't have found a better fit for my child. This school allows for great flexibility and learning outside of school. The principal, counselor and teachers allow the children to be asynchronous in subjects. At MEA my child was encouraged to find an appropriate level of challenge. Why this is not the norm in education, I'm not sure. I'm very thankful for the forward thinking leadership here which is allowing my child to thrive.

It was great for my kids and I as an alternative to regular school and home school. Everyone is so helpful and friendly and genuinely interested in the kids. I feel my kids benefited so much from this school and Im so thankful I found them!

I don't like the school part, but I don't like the school part in ANY school. Its pretty cool that I can get my work done faster though, cuz then I have more time to surf and skateboard. It would have infinite stars if there was no school, but that's not really an option.

Yo! I've been at this school for the past two years (8th and 9th grade). This school is totally accepting of everyone; bullying and peer pressure is nonexistent. Mental health also takes priority, and students are able to go at their own pace. The teachers and school assignments are super flexible, but at the same time, it teaches you time management and other skills that are quite useful in the real world (*cough* college *cough*)! If you have a hobby, sport, or passion you wanna pursue outside of school, I really recommend MEA!

Great school. Students learn much more than the subject matter of the classes. They learn time and resource management, and how to advocate for themselves. Skills not really thought about in standard schools. This style of education is not great for every student, but for those that can rise to the challenge, it will pay off later in life.

What an excellent school I wish I knew about it before. My Son is going here 10th grade and he loves it. The teachers are great. The principal is very involved in all aspects of every child and teachers and school.
