I'm very happy that I switched to Banka & Co several years ago and no longer have to worry about the 'billed by the minute' attitude of some of the larger accounting firms I used to deal with. I've used Banka and Co off and on over the years as my accounting needs have been more/less complicated (partners vs single, rental properties, etc). They always have great customer service, their responses are timely, and they provide an easy-to-digest summary for each tax season. Their administrative staff are very willing and helpful.
Terrible service and extremely unprofessional.
We were given a quote by one of the staff and when the final invoice came in significantly higher than the initial quote, the principal accountant told us that the staff member was not authorized to be giving a quote and that she was not aware of such a quote being given.
The firm uses an hourly billing model (which is common, although it is a fundamentally flawed model as it incentivizes inefficiency), but they do not keep track of their time and cannot produce a record of what the time they bill to a file was actually spent doing.
The system they use to collect the information needed for a file is incredibly inefficient. Communication is mediocre at best and responses to our questions were vague and not useful at all. The staff accountant we worked with was constantly asking for information and files that we had already provided (and then billing us for that time).
We tried discussing our concerns with the principal accountant, but she did not seem to care at all. Overall, no effort was made to listen to our concerns or try to provide a positive experience.
This firm represents exactly what is wrong with many professional service providers: they make money because they bill hourly and they do not seem to care about the client experience or the value being provided. Would not recommend.
