Beautifully Displayed.. Nice tribute to the air force.. Magnificent Air Craft
Facilities aren't adequate for personnel stationed there, parking is horrendous, no use of pool must use the local one. Galley is awful. Good fishing off base and lovely running trails.
I loved living here when I was a little kid I miss the place now
Passed by on the way back to Seattle. Amazed by the monument next to base.
I love NAS Whidbey, but you guys really should seek approval from Jeanne Joer before launching flight operations.
I guess it's all in why you are going there. Has had some nice air shows open to the public. Located in some of the most beautiful outdoors. Beautiful views of Puget Sound.
Stationed here '01-07. Having sat on base closure list for so long this Station never seems to get the funding it needs to maintain current buildings and structures. But still remains one the best in the Navy.
My first real job was here, teenaged, a Nuclear Sub valet, parking them enriched cake rides.
NAS Whidbey is a wonderful fixture in the area and the nearby city of Oak Harbor, along with all of Whidbey Island and neighboring Anacortes, benefits greatly from her presence. Along with the direct economic benefits, Oak Harbor enjoys the strong sense of community that is the hallmark of being a 'Navy town'.
The periodic airshows that have been taking place in the skies around NASWI for over 70 years offer area residents an opportunity to support the people who make their freedom possible, and the community gains a strong sense of pride knowing it is 'doing its part' as it has for generations. The EF-18s are quieter than the older Prowlers that have been flying here for 50 years, so even the handful of grumbly complainers have something to be happy about.
Best base in the Navy - top NAS 5 out of 10 years per DOD excellence award. Great military (VAQ and Wing X). Very supportive community.
In my 20+ years in the Navy, this was my best duty station. The town and area is a great place to live. I liked it so much I came back about 21 years after I retired. Have lived here for the last 18 years, and it is the finest place I hace ever lived. Everyone knows about the noise, and signs a form to that affect. Sometimes the noise is a pain, but THE SOUND OF FREEDOM is worth so much to those who care about this great COUNTRY, and not just there own wants.
Nice place! Btw here's a quick map of everything on base.
I have never been in the navy and have lived mostly in quiet rural areas. So it's a bit of a surprise to me that I love hearing the jets fly nearby, always look up to watch and say a quick prayer for them.
I was stationed here from 2009-2010 and served with VAQ-142 grey wolves. It was a great time, and I met a lot of cool people. The area is beautiful and as far as duty stations go, you could do much worse. Washington is a beautiful and serene state.
Noise? Really? It's an "Air Station". Anyone familiar with the military knows there is noise from aircraft. If you dont like the noise be a gentleman(or lady) and go elsewhere. Dont complain about those who would give their lives to protect yours.
Late on the night of September 11, 2001, I was listening to the unsettling silence and thinking over the horrendous acts of that day. Suddenly, I heard a faint roar in the sky that quickly grew louder and I recognized it as the sound of jets from Whidbey Naval Air Station. That was the most AWESOME sound, the sound of FREEDOM, and I was (and still am) grateful for it.
I worked on the base in 1990 drilling observatory well,s. This place was one of the best experiences I as a master well driller of the state of Washington experienced hydrological effects of the ocean vs.freash water water interning. I was working with the best PHD in hydrological and geological scientists I ever encountered. The base was perfect. The Blue Angeles flew over one day. I was so proud to be a productive American of the USA. M.k
My first duty station from 2014-2020. The cost of living is little high but perfect place to raise kids. Lots of outdoor activities available. The base itself is beautiful and surrounded by trees.
All of you complaining about the noise well that is the sound of freedom!
It is excellent having the Naval Air Base here. Approximately 80% of our economy is based on their presence on the Island. Many of its citizens are retired military folks.
Beautiful Sunrise & Sunsets. GREAT ppl
Here too. VAQ 136 THE GAUNTLETS
Great Group
Thank you to all the brave men and women fighting for our Country or Freedom and keeping us our community's safe thank you so much for all you do and God bless you!!!!
How do you rate a military base? It was professional, by the book, and efficient and just happens to be in a geographically beautiful area that's also strategic. Downside: weekend traffic can be the stuff of nightmares.
Nice base. Awful cell and GPS reception as usual, though.
Terrible jet noise all day and night which can be heard from local camping when what we want is nature!
The base itself is okay.
-25mph through nearly all of base is whack.
-The fast food choices here are whack.
-The lack of alcohol on this base is whack.
-Cellphone service is whack.
-The wifi in the barracks is whack.
Beautiful views and awesome display of aircraft taking off and landing! The sun sets right on the water here too with easy access; highly recommended if you are in the area! Downside is that there isn t a whole lot of grocery/supplies on base.
if I could give 0 stars I would. will not be coming back or recommending to anyone else.
I was stationed here in the early 60s prior to shipping over for carrier duty aboard USS Ranger. Caught my first link cod off the Deception Pass Bridge. Weekends spent on Mt. Baket and many travels to Canada. I am quite older now and do believe God put Whidbey Isl. where it is for me to dream about and one day, if time permits, for a travel back in time to a wonderful place.
Love the place. Do ship work ups there. Cold and raining. Love the Navy. Wore the brown boots though.
My favorite place and the place that i came into this world at ,my paradise ,my Island
