Monster Pets Review

We go to this pet store occassionally because we need lots of feeder fish and sometimes live feeder mice/rats. We can usually get those elsewhere, but some days we don't have much choice. The store and staff is kind of a mess. They have a great selection of specialty pet foods, which looks very organized and maintained. But then the live reptiles, live fish and aquariums can look rather neglected. I haven't yet seen an employee who hasn't looked like a homeless person directly in off the streets. Fortunately they do all seem very friendly and helpful. One time we were there, one of their young ball pythons was laying dead in it's tank, for who knows how long. We informed staff who promptly removed it (are staff doing rounds to look in on the live animals regularly?) There's always a lot of dead fish, which is inevitable in a pet store, but they should try to remove them a bit more frequently to keep things looking a bit more clean and cared for. I think feeder fish prices are good, but feeder mice/rats are ridiculously expensive.

I also want to add that they are so friendly there. Every time I bring my dog they give him a treat and are so nice. Thank you

I love this one they dont try n tell u what to buy for your fish or what type of fish u should buy for the size tank u have like the one in the plaza or Oregon ave

Closed...it was the largest pet store in the area, but somehow it didn't make it...i wish it was still there

It's good but not as much variety as petland but nice select items

Sure friendly people working there the day I went in. I asked a bunch of questions about fish tank sizes. They answered all of them. They also have a huge selection of damn near everything you would be for all your pets needs. Shop here.

Only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because some of the salespeople are very young... Most lack The knowledge to answer questions

Wow.... going downhill it seems. Well stocked accessories and food. Lifeless seemingly unhappy employees. Fish department low stock with many unkept tanks looking empty. Purchased a few filter items and left. Hardly a word spoken to me in 20 minute visit. Won't be back unless it's an emergency.

Need something for my cat found what I was looking for and was very impressed that the store had what I was looking for

They have everything you could possibly need for your pets

There has be a change in management and it has started to go down hill. If it wasnt for the girl Leigh-Anne working in the fish department I wouldn't waste my time. The manager says they will order stuff and weeks go by without supplies or particular fish. Sad the old manager Chris is gone and the only other person I trust in the fish department Nadia rarely works. Such a real bummer the only shop with aquarium stuff left in the neighborhood is falling apart. If you do plan on shopping there ask for Leigh-Anne, shes great and one of the only people that will assist you with real info not just the first google article they see on their phone.

Always treated kindly and the staff always tries to help with any questions you may have.

In and out with friendly people at the counter.. works for me.. the girl even threw in a little freebie for my puppy!

SNAKE OWNERS they sell live mice. Live mice can injure you're snake during feeding. Also I saw an employee shake a bag of fish repeatedly. This store does not know anything about exotics. I will never go again.

Me and my boyfriend started going to Monster Pets about a month or two ago when he moved to Philly. We wanted to scope out some pet stores that weren t Petco or Petsmart, etc... and we ve been loyal customers ever since! Generally, the staff is friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I were impressed by the aquatic section and the selection of fish that were offered. We also have a puppy and they have tons of treats and toys to choose from. The only thing I wish they would improve is their leash/harness and pet-clothing inventory... But that is me being picky! Overall I would recommend this place for anybody who is looking for a positive pet-shopping experience.

Update to the fish section is BEAUTIFUL. Change in management was much needed. The animals look healthy and happy now! Anyone who previously had issues should try again. I get my guinea pig and lizard supplies here when I m around and these bows did NOT disappoint!

I love supporting pet food stores that aren't the big giant chains, and the prices are reasonable.

Dirtier and stickier than the average pet store but good selection and good prices. Fish have always been healthy bought from here. Don't expect most the staff to be knowledgeable though.

It is a nice place and everyone is nice. However the smell when you walk in is strong.

It smelled so bad in there. I didn't even want to walk around. Me and my daughter walked right out.

They did a good job upgrading the place from what it used to look like. It's clean now, well kept, all animals look great, reptile cages clean, fish tanks nice, great supply of dog foods and accessories i highly recommend

Great selection of food and supplies. They have lots of different toys and stuff that you can't find at the big box stores. The employees are all super friendly as well.

Best pet store in Philly. Good prices and the animals are all healthy looking. Located next to a beer and wine store if you need something to go with that new goldfish.

On 2-21-17 at approximately 12pm, I went to this store to use the do it yourself dog wash. The water was very hot and not adjustable and the dryer had no heat! Cold air came out of the dryer hose. What was supposed to be a $10 wash and dry for my dog turned into a $20 wash and dry because I had to put in an extra $10 to try and get her dry enough to take her outside. If that wasn't bad enough I purchased a few items and when I went to the checkout I told the young lady who was working the register about the water and cold air problem and she just said "oh" and looked at me as if I had three heads. Never said anything like "sorry for the problem, we'll look in to it", I'll report it to the manager" or anything. She acted quite rude and ignorant! Not a good way to treat your customers regardless of what they're in your store for.

This is one of those pet stores that gives pet stores a bad name. You walk into place stinks of rotten dying animals. The fish tanks are all black and have dead fish in them. And all over you look it says they do not take refunds or exchanges. So they know that their fish are going to die before you get them home, absolutely positively do not buy any fish from here

It's not the best kept store in the world, but they've got good crickets and a very nice selection of pet stuff, including food and habitats for reptiles, amphibians and fish.

They sell reptiles, amphibians, spiders, Guinea pigs, rabbits, & birds, too.

God suplie of aquarium stuff but i buy some feder and now my tank is infected with ick

Inventory is alright, fish so so, staff is clearly more intested in socializing then fast service. Had to interrupt a personal phone call for help with fish and check out took 3x the time that should have been needed. Only stop here when I have to.
