To say our experience with Monolith exceeds expectations would be to make a huge understatement. This company is AWESOME! For perspective, we re owner/builders; we designed and built our own passive solar, super-insulated home and in the process we ve dealt with a LOT of contractors. Monolith is at the top of the list for doing what they said they would when they said they d do it. As anyone who s dealt with contractors knows, that can be a BIG problem, but not with these guys. The best part, what really distinguishes them from most every other solar company is they re local. We never had to talk on the phone with some guy in California looking at Google Earth on his computer. No, we d make a phone call to Rensselaer if there was some issue and an hour later someone like Gary Despart (lead consultant), Chris Williams (foreman) or Danny Palmer (PV technician) would be on site. Very impressive!
Monolith Solar installed solar panels for us on our garage this fall. From start to finish, this process was explained to us in terms that we could understand by my Energy Consultant, Lindsey McEntire. She explained how the entire project would work. How the solar would benefit us and explained the finance aspect, and tax credits as we had no knowledge of any of this at all. She helped up applied for the federal tax credits as well. When it came time for the project to begin, the workers arrived when they were scheduled, introduced themselves, and were polite and friendly. The project was completed on time. Best of all, the work crew cleaned up their work area before they left. After the project was completed, Lindsey called to check that everything was to our satisfaction. It certainly was.
If anyone is interested in getting solar in the future for their home or business, I would certainly recommend Monolith Solar. It is a wonderful company to have worked with. Lindsey McEntire is the most thorough and thoughtful person that you could have for an Energy Consultant. She is certainly knowledgeable of her job.
This was a truly great experience. Everyone was extremely professional and they conveyed that there were interested in you as a consumer and not just another sale. Very happy with the quality of work as well.

Monolith was like doing business with a family owned business. Steve, CEO, was great to work with as the entire crew was too. Had a problem with the inverter a year after installment and they were on site asap after I called them. Reccomend Monolith to family and friends.
Beware: Solar Panels Installations Can/Has caused Leaks into Storage Units.
I have concerns Monolith targets Storage units for solar, but doesn t appear to be upfront with the reality of solar panel installations able to cause Leaks in the roofs, destroying peoples precious property.
They installed solar panels on the roof of the storage unit I pay nearly $200 a month to keep my belongings safe, Nobody alerted me to the possibility the panels and installation could cause leaks in the roof of my storage unit, while it had been leaking for a couple months completely destroying an entire box of my most precious priceless family heirloom belongings.
My belongings included generations of families baby books, my deceased families military honor commemorative letters signed by the presidents, with photos of presidents signed, deceased families paintings, some belongings so destroyed I can t even tell what they are soaked with water, and covered with horrible mold.
The company did quickly come to the storage unit to fix the leak, as one worker told me this has happened before, and assured me their actions to caulk the roofing around the Panels would fix the leak, it s what they did to the previous Storage facility that leaked from their solar panels.
I truly hoped this situation would stay simple, and sincerely hoped Monolith would simply do the right thing, but As some time has passed it doesn t appear to me that Monolith is interested in resolving this issue and the priceless damages they ve caused. Unfortunately it appears that I now need to waste my time contacting an attorney for resolve.
I noticed Monolith keeps saying Customer Service is important to them, however I ve contacted the company a couple times to speak of this issues, but the owner has not returned my call. Will see, and update how this unravels.
From the information coming from the Storage unit working with Monolith, it doesn t seem like they are telling the entire truth about these installations to the Owners, they Can and Have Caused Leaks to Storage units.
Hands down the best solar company in the area. Not a single detail is overlooked throughout the entire process, from the initial paper work to the installation. Monolith Solar takes care of everything to make this an easy, stress free and enjoyable experience for the homeowner.

I compared 7 different companies and they were the most efficient. Dealing with their staff, especially Lindsey, was tremendous. We started our system around January and haven't looked back.
The crew that installed the system were tops no complaints there. very clean very professional. BUT,
I am so sorry I used them. bob S. the sales man blew so much smoke up my A&&. He said that the company would help me with any problems I might have. once they installed the system they could care less on who I was. after the system was installed then bob is a yes man he will yes you to death and do nothing. they are so bad on the business end they screwed me out of money. I had to go as far as calling the state attorney general and I filed a complaint of fraud and deception . I can not go into to many details but, once I sue them ( just for the amount that they screwed me out of.) I will.... I have no problems paying the contracted amount.. they are the nicest people up front but, deception is the game.
Monolith Solar just installed a system on our home a few weeks ago. My husband and I could not be happier with Monolith s customer service and commitment to excellence. Monolith s energy consultant showed us that the benefits of purchasing a system far out weight the benefits of leasing. We own our panels AND our monthly utility bill has been reduced to $40 per month! We also want to comment on this company s professionalism. Steve Erby, the Vice President of the company called and spoke to my husband and I just a couple days after signing. To have one of the owners call and speak to us personally to introduce himself and reassure us that we would be taken care of was HUGE. What other solar company, let alone any other company in the area, takes the time to do this? The entire process was quick, easy and flawless. We could not be happier with our decision and experience with Monolith Solar. Even weeks after out install, we still keep in touch with Steve and our energy consultant. I have thought about going solar for awhile. I researched many companies in the Capital District, most of which have only been around for a couple of months. Finally, a friend at work recommended I check out Monolith Solar, who have been working in the area for 8 years. Everything with Monolith Solar went exactly how they said it would. The paperwork was totally done by them. Anytime I called, I actually talked to a person, not a machine. They were with me the whole time. I would get update emails every week or two about my permit status. The guys were punctual and respectful of my lawn. I am a garden fanatic, and they made sure to work around my tulip beds, which I really appreciated. The install went exactly like the renderings that were given to me.Solar was a big undertaking for my husband and I, and I am happy to say that I selected a dependable company, I highly recommend making the switch to Monolith Solar!

Going solar is a process that requires the solar installer to accompany the client through the various
stages. I found the experience with Monolith Solar to be superb every step of the way. We were particularly impressed with the high-info, low pressure approach taken by the sales representative, and the friendly and competent way the designer worked with us to make sure we would be pleased with the result. We talked with two other installers and found their sales pitch and tactics to be insulting. Obviously solar has become an extremely competitive business, and Monolith Solar has delivered a quality product in a professional, dignified way that the others don''t match. Solar installation through Monolith Solar One of the best satisfying decisions.
I generally do not post any review but this time I felt like writing about my solar installation by Monolith Solar.
I did my research before going for solar and checked with some big names as well as some local installers too. Most of them offer the leasing option as that is in the best interest with the company. One of my friends referred me to Monolith and it offered me the best deal for purchasing the solar unit.
My project was handled by Lindsey and she is the best. She is very efficient in communication and managing the project. She explained me all the details about the installation and post installation processes and helped me for all the communications to power company.
The installation team is young, energetic, caring and very accommodating. It was windy and light rain on the second day of installation but they completed it even though they had to stay late.
The best part is when the 3rd party electrical inspector checked the system. He said I like the company s work. Because they have used good quality product and done a nice job . That was a very satisfying moment for me to hear a comment from an independent tech, who inspects so many solar installations.
Everyone in Monolith care about customer. Even the VP - Steven Erby called me to make sure the project is handled to my satisfaction.
Do not recommend. From beginning to end our project has been horrible. We started out by their representatives not being able to help us properly get the loan as promised, we had to call directly for proper information (should have known then). When the loan finally came though it was not setup the way it should have been.
Despite being told through the process we could change the details later we couldn't and now we are stuck with a much larger bridge loan than we wanted.
Then the stall game began. Even though we were told the process would take a month to 6 weeks it took nearly 5 months to get our panels installed. We kept getting pushed off and jerked around about the delays (in reality it is becuase the company is struggling). Finally the panels came in and got turned on. They worked for less than a month and a part broke. We were told we were "lucky it was covered under warranty!" (Um yea.. they haven't even been running for a month!). So here were are now with non working solar panels.. (now on week 3 of no solar production) with no end in sight. So..we have an electric bill and a loan payment.
People at the office are less than helpful and do not give any information or updates.
Technicians are nice enough but even those who told us to contact them directly ignore messages.
*as with previous poster our inverter also went. But we are on week 3 of waiting for it to be fixed. Not hours.
Beware. Do not use them. So terribly disappointed.
Oh. And as of this point in time the people who recommended us haven't gotten their referral payment yet.
UPDATE on the above. Finally for monolith to give me solar edge direct number after they kept blaming them for the inverter delay. ("Its not our fault its solar edge fault!") I contacted solar edge directly and they immediately expedited the issue on their side since the delay has been sp long. Something monolith couldn't manage to do for us.
So... add lying, stalling and deflecting to the list...
Now lets see how long it takes them to come install the part.
Good news is NYSERTA is coming to inspect. Cant wait to tell then the story!
Friendly and technically savvy staff. Provided me with a rooftop system with support for a (future) battery back-up system. The team at Monolith Solar answered all my technical questions along the way and kept me apprised of status throughout the planning and installation process.
They seemed nice at first. My solar panels aren t producing and they won t return any calls. Bring business elsewhere!
We are pleased with our Monolith experience and would recommend them - since December 21 (Winter Soltice) we have been steadily gaining and now love having a $17 Nat Grid bill! Give them a call and ask for Lindsey or Bridget - they are the best!
I learned about Monolith Solar through our community's Solarize Program. Throughout the process the company met its target dates. The engineering team is young, talented and include a lot of Rensselaer Polytechnic grads. The installers fulfilled our request have the cables from the rooftop panels to the inverter follow an interior route. This complicated their job, but their was no hesitation about doing it. They just did it. I cannot imagine how any other contractor could have been better than Monolith.
I was interested in Solar Panels. Spoke with a rep. @ Home depot from Solar City. He was vague about the work, cost of the job, and how my power bill would be affected. I did some checking on the internet and looked into the Solar City Company. On their own site was nothing but disgruntled customers. Sloppy work done, unfinished work done and total customer unhappiness. I spoke with friends and some strangers I found out used Solar City and they also warned me to stay away. I then called Monolith. The Sales Representative came to my house, brought me a quote that was easy to read, informative, and answered all questions I had. She was pleasant, intelligent, and professional. Best move I ever made. Not only did they promise and do everything they originally told me, but I made changes in midstream that they did without additionally charging me. I wanted an electrical wiring pvc pipe moved and no problem, It was done. Chris the installer was a treat to work with, The Sales Rep. was a treat, every one I encountered was pleasant and professional. Do yourself a favor, contact no one else but Monolith. You'll be sorry if you don't!

I ve had my system for almost a year and experienced a problem with the inverter not producing any power. I called the office number and got an after-hours person who quickly had the on-call tech, Danny Palmer, get in touch with me. He was amazing! He kept me informed of each step he attempted remotely and Monolith s communications with the inverter s manufacturer. I told him I bet he would have to come to my house to fix it and he responded that he was up to that challenge. Hours later it was fixed remotely. Communications were great. Customer service was great. Danny was awesome. I expected problems getting help since the system was bought and paid for and a year old already. I was very pleasantly wrong in my assumptions! Great job Danny Palmer!!
I had a great experience working with my consultant Janelle Calkins and everyone at Monolith Solar. They just installed my panels last week so I am actually looking forward to my next electric bill. The panels are on the front of my home but you can barely tell because Monolith uses a very sleek black panel, which blends right into my roof. I am very happy with my decision to choose monolith and recommend them to everyone.

Monolith installed a 4kW system on my flat roof in early April. Through the entire process the support team was very professional and answered all my questions. On the day of install, it took the crew one day and the system was up and running the next morning. Great Job!

This is a 5 star company. I was very impressed with the professionalism, expertise and sincerity of this company. I recommend them to anyone interested in solar. I was hesitant to go solar at first but Monolith didn t just tell me about solar, they took the time to educate me about solar and they made sure I understood everything before we even discussed signing anything. Their transparency and honesty surprised me the most. I felt like other companies were trying to hide their costs and the equipment they used, but not Monolith, they were the most open company I spoke with, which ultimately made me choose them. They were a little more expensive than some of the other companies, but you are paying for top of the line equipment, warranties, and above all workmanship. They do not cut any corners. Typically I am not someone to write reviews unless the company is AMAZING or TERRIBLE. My boyfriend and I were referred to Monolith by a family member and I have to PRAISE their company. I am so excited to be producing our electricity right on our very roof. Everyone at Monolith was a pleasure to work with, and Lindsey (Our Rep) actually educated me on how the system works, how to file for the tax credits, and why purchasing is the best option. Lindsey was extremely attentive to our needs throughout the process, and made sure that every detail of the installation went seamlessly. Her response time to my emails was within minutes, which is unheard of in today's world.
Bottom line, I am a very critical consumer. And if Monolith is able to make me this ecstatic about electricity, take my advice and call them.

This company was great. They handled every detail of this process. The panels were put up with no problems. Very neat and looks great. I find it very rare for a company with so many people dealing with different aspects of a process to be on the same page and work together. It was truly a seamless transition to Solar. Great company, great service. Meter is running backwards after only 1 month.
