I've been in the community-based program for over a year, and it's been amazing! Everyone I've encountered has been great. The application process is long, and I can see how it deters people, but we are talking about being responsible for someone else's child--so yeah--it's necessary and worth it. I have had nothing but a fantastic experience so far!

Been a long time big for over 5 years and it has been the best and most rewarding experience in my life. The agency matched a perfect 7 year old for me and now he is almost a teenager! Crazy seeing someone grow up so fast. There are a lot of events they set up like cooking classes, free Bulls/Bears tickets that are free and have really enhanced the match.

If I could give no stars, I would. After numerous interviews and criminal background checks it took them a full year to match me with a little, but that happened a week before pandemic, meaning only one session. However, then they did another interview with me and a week later, they sent a letter of rejection - this is just bizarre to get rejected by BBBS! The level dysfunction is unbelievable!

Mocha Sisters Chicago - Non Profit: Empowering Children through One-to-One Mentoring

Mocha Sisters Chicago is a non-profit organization that aims to empower children and their families through one-to-one mentoring. The organization is a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, which has been providing mentoring services for over 100 years.

The mission of Mocha Sisters Chicago is to create positive change in the lives of children who are facing adversity by matching them with caring adult mentors. The organization believes that every child has the potential to succeed in life, and it strives to help them achieve their goals by providing support, guidance, and friendship.

One-to-One Mentoring: A Powerful Tool for Positive Change

Research shows that one-to-one mentoring can have a significant impact on the lives of young people. Children who have mentors are more likely to graduate from high school, attend college, and become productive members of society. They also have higher self-esteem and better relationships with their peers and family members.

At Mocha Sisters Chicago, the focus is on creating strong relationships between mentors and mentees. Each match is carefully made based on shared interests, personalities, and goals. Once matched, mentors commit to spending at least four hours per month with their mentees for a minimum of one year.

During this time together, mentors provide emotional support, academic assistance if needed or just be there as someone who listens without judgement or criticism when they need it most. They also expose mentees to new experiences such as cultural events or outdoor activities which they may not otherwise get exposed too.
