I had the very same experience several years ago with the gift cards ! I had received several as gifts and saved them up for something special - when I went to use them the merchant told me they were at less than half their value because of the little hidden $2.50 per month fee !!! I was under the impression that gift cards did not expire or have fees attached !
I was very disappointed and thought they had resolved the issue to warn others to prevent this happening in the future but sounds like from the previous review this is still happening !
I have never supported this business since as a result of that experience and won t .

I think they continue to use this dishonest practice on purpose to their financial advantage.
No one should support this organization until they stop ripping off Missoulians

This incredible group of smart people is responsible for ensuring downtown Missoula is vibrant and full of unique, fun businesses. They hold great events which draw people from around the region to the downtown area AND they sell one of my favorite gifts to give and receive: Missoula Downtown Gift Cards.

Despite being against federal and Montana law, the Missoula Downtown Association exploits people by pocketing the cash that people spend for gift cards. After a year of inactivity they begin deducting $2.50 A MONTH from your card. Seems cut and dry to me that when someone spends money for a gift card that it should NEVER expire, especially when it does not align with state or federal laws. Do yourselves a favor and give someone $25 and a note. At least you will know they will actually get to use your gift. DO NOT SUPPORT THE DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION unless they change their policies.

My son received a downtown association gift card as a Christmas gift. He lives in Washington but periodically visits Missoula. He wanted to use the gift card but found that the balance on the card was zero. Even though Montana law and federal law state that gift cards cannot lose their value, the downtown association does not follow this policy! Why? DO NOT SUPPORT THIS ORGANIZATION.

About Missoula Downtown Partnership

Missoula Downtown Partnership: Revitalizing the Heart of Missoula

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana, there’s no place like Missoula, and its Downtown is certainly no exception. With its unique shops, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, events, and even a river running through its core, Downtown Missoula is a place where everyone can find something to connect with.

At the heart of this vibrant community lies the Missoula Downtown Partnership (MDP), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing downtown Missoula as a cultural and economic hub for residents and visitors alike. Since its inception in 2011, MDP has been working tirelessly to revitalize downtown by creating an environment that fosters economic growth while preserving the area's historic charm.

One of MDP's primary goals is to attract new businesses to downtown by providing resources such as business planning assistance and marketing support. By doing so, they hope to create a diverse mix of businesses that will appeal to both locals and tourists alike. In addition to attracting new businesses, MDP also works closely with existing businesses in order to help them thrive in today's competitive market.

Another key aspect of MDP's mission is community engagement. They believe that strong communities are built on strong relationships between residents and local organizations. To this end, they organize numerous events throughout the year designed to bring people together for fun activities such as live music performances or outdoor movie screenings.

MDP also recognizes the importance of preserving downtown's historic architecture while still making it accessible for modern use. They work closely with property owners in order to ensure that buildings are maintained properly while still being able to accommodate contemporary needs.

In recent years MDP has made significant progress towards achieving their goals. Thanks in part due their efforts over $100 million has been invested into downtown since 2011 which includes over $30 million worth public investment from city government alone which shows how much trust people have on them when it comes revitalizing downtonw area . New businesses have opened up shop alongside established ones creating an eclectic mix that reflects both old-world charm and modern sensibilities.

Overall,Missoula Downtown Partnership plays an integral role not only in revitalizing downtown but also fostering community spirit among residents who call this beautiful city home.Their tireless efforts have helped make Missoula one of Montana’s most vibrant cities – one where history meets innovation at every turn!
