What a great experience, the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Pat was incredibly patient with my three children while outfitting them with hockey equipment. Defending the Blue Line: Empowering Military Kids through Sports
Defending the Blue Line is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that aims to keep military kids healthy and active through sports. Founded in 2009, Defending the Blue Line has been providing gear, camps, grants, and special experiences to children of military members who are serving or have served our country.
The organization was started by two Minnesota National Guard soldiers who wanted to give back to their fellow service members by helping their children stay connected with sports while they were away on deployment. Since then, Defending the Blue Line has grown into a national organization that serves military families across all branches of service.
At Defending the Blue Line, we believe that every child deserves access to sports regardless of their family's financial situation. That's why we provide free equipment such as hockey sticks, skates, and helmets for ice hockey players; baseball gloves and bats for baseball players; soccer balls and cleats for soccer players; basketballs and hoops for basketball players; footballs and pads for football players; golf clubs for golfers - you name it!
We also offer summer camps where kids can learn new skills from professional coaches while making new friends who understand what it's like to have a parent in the military. Our camps are open to all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
In addition to equipment and camps, we provide grants so that families can afford registration fees or travel expenses associated with playing on a team. We know how expensive youth sports can be these days - especially if you're moving around frequently due to your parent's job in the military - so we want to make sure that no child misses out on an opportunity because of financial barriers.
But our support doesn't stop there! We also offer special experiences such as meet-and-greets with professional athletes or tickets to sporting events so that kids can feel like VIPs even when their parents are away serving our country.
Our mission at Defending the Blue Line is simple: empower military kids through sports. We believe that participating in athletics not only promotes physical health but also builds character traits such as teamwork, leadership skills, discipline, perseverance - qualities that will serve these children well throughout their lives.
