Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association: Providing Hope and Homes for Children in Need
Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association (MFCAA) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the needs of children in foster care and adoptive families since 1999. The organization was founded with the mission to provide support, education, advocacy, and resources to foster and adoptive families in Kansas and Missouri.
FosterAdopt Connect is one of the programs offered by MFCAA. It is a comprehensive program that helps individuals or couples who are interested in fostering or adopting children. The program provides training, support groups, case management services, respite care, financial assistance, adoption services, post-adoption support services as well as other resources to help families navigate through the complex process of fostering or adopting a child.
The need for foster care and adoption services has never been greater than it is today. According to statistics from the U.S Department of Health & Human Services Administration for Children & Families (ACF), there were approximately 437000 children in foster care on September 30th 2018. In Kansas alone there were over 7000 children placed into out-of-home care during fiscal year 2019.
Children who enter into foster care have experienced trauma such as abuse or neglect which can lead to emotional distress such as anxiety or depression. They may also have physical health problems due to lack of medical attention while living with their biological parents. These issues can make it difficult for them to adjust when they are placed into new homes.
MFCAA recognizes these challenges faced by both children in need of homes as well as prospective parents looking to provide them with loving homes. That's why they offer a range of programs designed specifically for each stage of the fostering/adoption process.
One such program offered by MFCAA is called "Family Connections". This program provides opportunities for birth parents whose parental rights have been terminated but still want contact with their child/children after they've been adopted by another family member/foster parent(s). Family Connections offers supervised visits between birth parents/relatives/foster parent(s) so that everyone involved can maintain relationships while ensuring safety measures are met.
Another important aspect provided by MFCAA is post-adoption support services which include counseling sessions aimed at helping adoptive families cope with any challenges that may arise after an adoption has taken place such as attachment issues between child/parent(s), behavioral problems exhibited by adopted child(ren), etc.
In addition to providing direct assistance through its various programs/services mentioned above; MFCAA also advocates on behalf of all those involved within this system including social workers/case managers who work tirelessly every day trying find safe permanent homes where kids can thrive emotionally physically mentally spiritually socially academically etc..
