Donate life.

Donate life.

Be an organ donor.

Make sure that your family knows your wishes.

A high level of excellence and driven by respect and honor, MTS deals with the families of the donor as they struggle to say good-bye to their loved one, while giving a recipient and their family the support needed in the waiting time. It's a delicate balance that is done beautifully by the staff everyday, with compassion and care.

I received my liver transplant January 2013 and was fortunate enough to attend my first candlelight ceremony July 2013. MTS did a spectacular job in bringing both we recipients and donors together, treating us with dignity and respect. They were kind, compassionate, and caring which made it easy to for us feel comfortable. The respect shown to all of us was incredible, and the ceremony was absolutely breathtaking. I was proud to be one of the hundreds with tearful, thankful eyes for being a part of such an extraordinary event. The greatest hero I never knew was the organ donor that saved my life. God Bless us all. May we find comfort and warmth in His loving embrace.

My grandfather Archie Mays died 3/26/17. Practically 30 minutes after he expired we got a call from Mid-America asking us to donate skin tissue, my aunt still distraught told the rep she'd think about it but if she didn't hear back that meant NO. We get a call from Granberry Mortuary telling us he couldn't be released due to Mid-America holding his body. When I called them the lady was rude and not very concerned. I understand transplants save lives but my grandfather didn't believe in it and we owed him the right to respect his wishes. Very insensitive company!

This note should NOT discourage anyone from donating organs, but MATS should DISCLOSE truths.

Today I went to the license bureau and the frequency and fervency of the staff to get customers to agree to organ donation by giving the state advanced permission was noticeable. I couldn't understand it until I realized that at least three St Louis area license bureaus are owned by Mid-America Transplant, including the one where I went today. I also noticed on their website (MTS), that they forget about Step 12 of the tissue donation process. It should be noted that human bone, tendons, ligaments, etc. are "sold" to bone and tissue banks, processed, milled, packaged and sterilized and then re-sold to hospitals which sell it to patients reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, ObamaCare or private insurance companies. They are NOT DONATED. I get the benefit of organ donation (heart, kidney, lung, liver, etc) and from what I know, these are indeed donated at no cost--outside of the labor and services to explant, transport and implant them-- and at the time of necessity, that decision can also be made by survivor(s) and doctor(s), but there should be more disclosure in the tissue segment. Human tissue is a FOR PROFIT business. I am also suspicious that a human organ company should own a license bureau where people make decisions about giving organs and seemingly push hard to get people to "sign up."

From a transplant recipient and MTS volunteer perspective, I've had incredibly positive experiences with MTS. My life has been saved twice with the help of this organization, and I have also recieved aid in the past from them during times of significant financial stress while trying to survive. I have only ever witnessed true reverence and intense appreciation for donors and donor families from the staff and volunteers that work for this organization in the decade that I've been associating with them. Through MTS I've had the amazing opportunity to connect with donor families that also volunteer for the organization. It's been such a beautiful and rewarding experience to be a part of.

I work for a funeral home in St. Louis, MO and was absolutely mortified by the treatment of one of our families at the dishonesty, lack of integrity, lack of compassion and overall uncaring attitude displayed by Mid-America Transplant. While I believe in and support organ donation, if Mid-America Transplant is involved, I will leave instructions not to donate. They dumped a families loved one on us because they were too cheap to do the right thing. They don't care about your loved one. They only care about making money off the donation with the least amount of cost to them. Sara at Mid-America was unprofessional and I simply cannot believe how they treated the family that gave their loved one for a donation.
