This venue is amazing. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!! We had no problems on our wedding day!!we had ceremony and reception here with 200 people. It was perfect!! People post about the egg smell of water but it s a venue that is old and can t change to city water so it s well water. They cook and serve purified water and filtered water for drinking. I suggest buying bath and body works candles for bathroom, I had leaves scent all around the castle and it was the perfect touch for our Fall rustic wedding!!! CAROLYN IS THE BEST!! Hire her for coordinating your wedding. She made sure everything went smoothly and that my husband and I were very happy with everything. I would suggest this venue to anyone. My family and other guests are asking me how I found this Castle and how much they loved the food! It was Chicken Marsala we went with!! It was amazing and roasted potatoes are insanely good!! I have no negative things to say about this venue. I can t wait to see our pictures from this BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL CASTLE!! How many people can say they got married in a castle!!! AGAIN CAROLYN WAS AMAZING!!! Kept in contact with me about everything!!! HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE!! 10-9-20 wedding day!!

We had our wedding at Meyers Castle over the weekend. The property is beautiful. The Coordinator Carolyn did an amazing job at pulling everything together. She was a saving grace for us. She was prompt, professional, and a pleasure to work with. The biggest issue that we encountered was working with the owner Elizabeth. Elizabeth is cranky, unprofessional, and does not work well with people. The only thing saving her business is that she doesn t have a lot of competition in the area and who wouldn t want to get married in a Castle. Our original Coordinator quit after 2 months and we were never informed. The original Chef quit and we had to wait for a new Chef to schedule our tasting. The cleanliness of the bathrooms and other areas of the Castle are sub par. The parking situation is horrible and signs are not well displayed, lastly, the staff talks about how unhappy they are and how horrible Elizabeth treats everyone. I wouldn t recommend Meyers Castle to anyone. Find a beautiful banquet hall in a different city.

Thank you for your reviews. I was looking to have a grand celebration for my graduation here. After these reviews of unprofessionalism and lack of integrity, it has caused me to look elsewhere. I appreciate the information shared and I will heed the alarming findings of those who went before me.

The venue had an amazing and beautiful site. Absolutely beautiful!! However the bridal suite wasn't so great. No hot water or towels. And there was a foul rotten egg type smell when water was ran. Really need to update bridal suite. Service was wonderful

Had our wedding here last July. The venue is beautiful and our wedding was amazing. We did get assigned a different coordinator 3 times but when we got our final coordinator she did a great job. The food was great but the day of a few of the bathrooms were out of order.

It's a cool place but needs some major repairs and updating. Only 1 toilet worked in the ladies room. The line was out the door. Food was ok. One of the servers was super disgruntled and was muttering obscenities while slamming plates and cups down on the table.

This place is horrible! We got married here and I will never recommend it to anyone else! First the food was cold and tasteless! Much different from the tasting that was required doing the wedding planning! The owner was in approachable and had a nasty attitude! It s totally overrated plz don t waste ur money! I m a very patient person by nature so this review is definitely needed! They should know when getting married it s supposed to be a joyous time but very stressful as it is just planning! Ur establishment should never add trauma!

We had an appointment to see this venue and the tour was ok and the lady who showed us around was nice. The venue itself was dirty, dark, and smelled old. After the tour she had us meet with the owner in the office. we were standing outside for more than 15 minutes before the woman let us in... She was cold and unprofessional. She gave us the pricing sheet and asked us if the price was "doable" as if we could not afford the place!

My fiance told her that we had a few tours scheduled that day so we cannot commit to anything yet. So she dismissed us and saying something along the lines of: well, call me when you decide you want it here. Rude, unprofessional, and honestly not impressive as all.

Took 2 and a half hours to receive a dry steak. Most people were leaving by the time we finally got our food. I needed to ask three times to get my drink, because the two other times I asked the waiter forgot. The only good thing I can say about this disaster of a place is that walking around gave you a couple of nice views.

Would have given it 5 stars if the parking lots were not so complicated. This place is huge though and accommodated me and the rest of my class reunion. There was also a wedding reception taking place in the next hall next door that didn't disturb our function at all. This is a FANTASTIC place to do celebratory things in your life. Just be ready for the weird parking where shuttles have to drive u to your destination and then drive you back to your car to a parking lot that's pitch black! Oh and there are free walking peacocks walking around as well...they are cute but LOUD!

We had originally planned on having our wedding there. Big Mistake! We should have listened to the other reviews. At first they were quick to respond to our emails and phone calls, but after receiving our $2,500 Deposit and paying another $5,000, dealing with them became a nightmare! They would rarely respond to emails within a week and never answer the phone when we called. My fiancee is vegan, they told her that she can have some fruit and vegetables for the dinner. Eva is a nightmare to work with, all she did was stress me and my fiancee out over every little detail. Finally we decided that we had enough and that it was time to look for another place to have our wedding. We called Eva and let her know that we understood that we would lose the $2500 deposit, however we would like the other $5K refunded to us. She stated that "that is not how it works, you lose everything". She told us however she does not handle that, to email meyers castle. We Emailed, and no response, then called, no one answered. Finally got a Voicemail from a guy named Sergio who told me that he was keeping my entire $7,500 and that basically there is nothing I can do about it. We only met with Eva once and talked to the florist once, we never decided on anything because whenever we asked when we needed to sitdown and get these things taken care of, we were always told "oh you have time" its just another way that they have for ignoring you. They bassically Stole $7,500 from us. Sergio called me and stated that he was not going to give me ANY money back because we want to have our wedding elsewhere and it doesn't matter that the contract only states a $2,500.00 Deposit is non refundable he is taking all of my money. sounds like they already spent my money and cant pay it back. Now we have to get the attorneys involved. What A Nightmare! DO NOT EVER HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS! Let's be clear the deposit was not what was stolen it was the $8000 of other payments you all asked for over a year and a half out despicable. Also Sergio cussed me out on the phone about his contract after I explained to him that his contract states The first payment of $2000 is the deposit and not the following four payments. Then Sergio wouldn't admit to being the owner even though I did a reverse UCC search on Meyers Castle and he was listed as the owner. When I asked who the owner was he would not tell me. Oh and thanks "Sergio" our wedding was magical! Mad possible By Walt Disney World! All for less than you quoted for your crappy service! With all the bells and wistles and VIP treatment of Disney! If you are thinking of having your wedding here think twice and then go have it at Disney! You will be more than satisfied!
Lawsuit is forthcoming. Sergio I'd like you to post the wedding contract that we had... just so readers can decide on their own.... your contract stated a $2000 deposit you kept the entire wedding amount. I will buy a billboard outside of your place to show how crooked you are if I have to

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The 1 star earned is just for the old castle itself. Just left after my Mother's Day reservation at 1pm. The service was horrible and the food was mediocre. You're better off going to a steakhouse and get better food for less $ and better service. The server kept apologizing but he kept forgetting about us. Took our drink orders and then it took an hour to get our appetizer. When we finally got our calamari it was all bread crumbs covering the plate to make it look full. I ordered my meat well done and it was still red/pink. When we complained, they offered to comp our drinks, but we didn't want more drinks, we just wanted to get our check and leave. While waiting for the check, we saw the tables next to us had already received their drinks and salads and we had barely received our dinner, and they gave us our salads AFTER our dinner. Never going there again. I wanted a nice mother's day lunch with my mom and it killed the whole experience.

Went to a family members wedding a few days ago. Was very excited being that I had heard many good things about this place. The experience was different from what I was expecting. Immediately after the ceremony, the guests were told to leave the area because another wedding was scheduled right after. Then, the guests get sent to a cocktail bar where the mixed drinks were served flat and it smelled like a sewer line exploded. Nobody could enjoy the cocktail bar because of the smell. Most of the guests ended up sitting in chairs in the courtyard waiting for the reception to open.

Finally, when the reception opened up, the room was beautifully set up and It had a nice space with a patio area.

When dinner was served, unfortunately the food was served on a very hot plate, however, the chicken and beef was cold, and dirty plates were stacked up on the table for quite awhile. Felt bad for the one server that was trying to deliver food and drinks and still clear the tables.

Over all, beautiful wedding, and was glad to be able to share the special day with family.

My family and I were just there for the Mothers Day brunch and I must say it was everything but. We waited 1:30 min for our food to come and it was cold when it arrived. A table who sat down after us got their food before us. I will NEVER visit this once great establishment. It is a dump now.

We had a couple's dinner here and unfortunately it was not a great experience. They set us up in the porch area which has been converted to an "indoor" porch. Meaning the tables are in a line. You can only socialize with the table next to you. Water was on the table but you had to walk to the end of the porch for pop or coffee. Salad was just lettuce, carrots and a large slice of red onion with a red wine vinegar dressing. Too bitter. The food was disappointing. Cold meats including a leather belt they tried to pass off as steak. Box mashed potatoes, frozen vegetables, and a dinner roll that was hard. At least the chicken was good. But all the food was under temp. The bathrooms are in the basement that looks like where scary movies come from, dark and not well maintained. No soap in the mens room. Luckily my wife was down there with me and I was able to wash my hands in the ladies. This place has so much potential but needs maintenance and better catering service. Beware!

Horribly weird & slightly scary experience.

Horribly weird & slightly scary experience.
Hi, my name is Dawn Kirk posting here.
Today, 6/21/2018, my long time friend & I were looking at nearby storage facilities since she is selling her home& needs one. She mentioned she has never been to Meyer's Castle so as the sign was near, I said I would drive her to see the castle & maybe dine there soon.
First, THE GATE WAS OPEN at 3pm.
Secondly, THERE ARE NO POSTED SIGNS saying to keep out.
We drove around to the back, not sure where the restaurant was.
Birds overhead were screeching (presumably the peacocks but we couldn't see them)
I started to turn around in the parking lot & all of a sudden, a grey SUV came BARRELING down the hill while hitting the horn over & over in rapid succession. Also, more birds or one bird was screeching like some demented bird alarm.
It was a man with dark facial hair who drove right at me in a t-bone style sideways so I was pinned in my truck space & had to back out. Did he call out, "Hello, ladies, Can I help you ?"
(like a nice gentlemen & possible business owner would be expected to do?) Did he say politely, "Sorry, but we're closed at this time." No.

He yelled at us & asked us why were there, when I replied, that my friend (who is 70 years old- she really enjoys having some strange man yell at her & order her out-
asi, tratas tu mama? )
has never seen the castle before & we thought there was a restaurant.
he stated that there was no such thing & that he would immediately escort us out as we were ordered to leave. I left while he followed close behind.
As I waited for a minute to turn right into traffic, he stayed right behind us.
It was as if he were a single man SWAT team & we were going to be hauled off & killed if we didn't obey. Maybe an exaggeration, but WHO does this stuff?
Everyone is a potential customer, but we will probably never be.
It was rude & completely baffling.
I would NEVER recommend dining at Meyer's castle at this point.
If you don't want the public to drive into your castle, then take your sign down & lock your gates.

The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because the shower/bathroom in the bridal suite wasn't great; the shower didn't have any water pressure, couldn't get hot, and smelled terrible. I had to go back to my hotel room to shower.

Otherwise, the venue is absolutely beautiful! You can tell they take great pains in the care of their landscaping; the flowers all throughout the venue are beautiful, not a single one seems wilted! There's an enclosure for the live doves they own, and the peacock (who I later learned is named Pete) strutting around before and during the ceremony was comical. The reception hall in the west canopy was lovely, with dim chandelier lighting and a beautiful balcony with seating for both areas.

Overall, a lovely venue, with needs in the area of plumbing infrastructure.

Just went to a wedding here. This place is a mess. The signage on the street is hard to read and very confusing on where to go once you turn in. No signs saying there is a shuttle to take you to the event. Many people were trying to walk it. Food was horrible and late coming out. When we left after 10 the dirty dishes were still on the table. The bartenders had zero idea how to make even a simple drink. When asked if they had scotch they suggested gin?? Not the same. Cupcake bar had no plates or napkins to put it on...i guess you could use your dirty dinner dish?? Please please do not use this place for your wedding!! Dont let them ruin your big day!

Seriously a magical time. You can't find a restaurant like this anywhere. Meyer's Castle was an experience and I have gone back numerous times. The ground are just beautiful and taking a shuttle to the castle starts the magic. You get so much food you start turning waiters down when they come by with swords full of meat.
Love the place-highly underrated and very up-scale.

Book your wedding here only if you want to be disappointed on one of the most important days of your life. The food I had for the tasting was nothing like the food that was served, my flowers were wrong (and you have to use their florist), the cake was average (you have to use their baker). Service was horrible in every aspect! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Very, very unprofessional!

Complete waste of time and money. We had reservations for Valentines day, and not only did they lose our reservations, they did not have what they described on the website. We were supposed to get a shot and an empanada to start off with, then be directed to the Tapas Bar (seafood/ salad/ cold meats) followed by a pasta bar with a chef who would make pasta to your specifications, and an endless array of prime meats served at our table. My girlfriend was really looking forward to the pasta chef and I was looking forward to the sea food, but instead of a Tapas Bar and a pasta bar, they had what we can only assume was a cheaper way to serve the hoards of people that made reservations (we were not in the actual restaurant- they overbooked and put us all in a hall). Instead of a pasta chef and seafood, they had a buffet with containers with cold bread rolls, bow tie pasta with marinara sauce, fettuccini alfredo, and rice. Not really what I would call "pasta made to your specifications", and as for seafood, they had some sort of potato salad with shrimp in it. That was it. They had a cheap iceberg lettuce salad, and 2 types of dressing. No vegetables of any kind were anywhere to be found (unless you count cold mashed potatoes). The meat was prepared well, but the server we were supposed to have was not allowed to serve us- that is to say, our waitress introduced herself to us as another girl rushed up and argued that she wanted our table and was taking it. She never offered us drinks; I had to call her over and ask- and we didn't get our drinks for at least half an hour, and a simple glass of water finally came with our dessert. Also, the table was so big (probably big enough for 6 people) that we could barley talk to each other the whole time, as there were two chairs at opposite ends and no room to sit closer without sitting in the row where servers were walking. All of the people around us had pieces of cake (at an additional cost, not a problem) that were at least four inches thick. when we ordered our dessert, it was obvious that our *wonderful* waitress had cut a piece in half and put it on two plates, and charged us for two. THEN it took an HOUR to pay the bill! We are FURIOUS and will never go back. I talked to a man who introduced himself to me as the owner, and he did not seem to mind that we had the worst dining experience ever. When my girlfriend walked up to him and said "Hi, I heard that you are the owner and I need to speak with you", He literally said "I'm not the owner", turned around, and walked away from her. A server who was nearby told her "that is so crazy, he IS the owner, are you OK?". We will NEVER go back, and we will tell everyone we can how horrible our experience was. I hope they close down, or sell to an owner who would care about their customers.

RIVELLI RISTORANTE???? Wasn't this place called Rodizio just 1-2 months ago??
You see, this is how Meyer's Castle attempts to hide the fact that they have been closed-down several times for rodent infestation, including dead rodents actually found in their kitchen sinks and mold also found in several areas in their kitchen. PLEASE CONFIRM THIS WITH THE LAKE COUNTY HEALTH DEPT. IN CROWN POINT; IT'S ALL DOCUMENTED.
They just hope that nobody puts 2 and 2 together. That's why they are always changing the name of their restaurant. Quite clever.
It just goes to show you: You can put lipstick on a pig...
The truth will catch up to you eventually Urquiza and I've got all day..

I have no idea why this place has such negative reviews! We just had our wedding there 2 days ago and it was PERFECT! Seriously. Have your wedding here. You will not regret it! Every single guest raved about the food, the ambiance, the decor, the friggin peacocks!!! It was perfect. I was very very dubious based on these reviews, but decided to go forward with it because it is just SO beautiful and who doesn't want to put "castle" on their invitations?! There is a hefty fee for the coordinator but READ THE CONTRACT- she does a LOT. She's essentially a planner, not just a coordinator. Eva busted her butt to make every detail happen, even when I would text her in the middle of the night for vendor advice, requests, etc.

Pros
-it's a stunning unique venue with gorgeous landscaping
-they have peacocks!!!
-in-house florist is experienced and reliable- my flowers were amazing.
-coordinator makes the wedding day run like clock work- everything was on-point. She kept all the vendors in line too. Worth every penny.
-food was amazing- I'm a huge foodie and love steak and theirs was restaurant quality cooked medium to perfection and big portion (we did a combo plate...chicken was good too)
-price is reasonable compared to other MANSIONS- you cannot compare this place to a banquet hall. It's not on the same level. Banquets are about half the price- but this is a MEMORABLE unique venue.
-includes a lot of stuff like a banquet would - food, chairs, linens, flowers, cake, etc.....you really only need to research music and photog....although they have that too if you want it !
-the bridal suite is BIG and really convenient. I had 4 hair and makeup ladies and 8 girls getting ready. There was more than enough room.

Cons
-fees fees fees- DJ plug- in fee, coordinator fee, shuttle bus fee, etc. There's lots of them ...but nothing is hidden or a surprise. Just read the contract carefully and you'll be fine. It's all spelled out right there.
-speaking of reading the contract- they can be pretty strict with some rules (outside food and choosing outside vendors) with that being said, they ended up being pretty accommodating for us- for a fee, or course.
-Their baker is meh- I was not impressed with my cake. It was ok and pretty enough, but not exactly what I pictured.
-really consider your timeline- the included number of hours I think only take you to about 10 pm or so. We had to pay many thousands to get the place with open bar for an extra couple hours (music must stop at 11:30)
-a little run down in certain parts, but they seem to be working on it. There was a bunch of construction going on before our wedding.
-you'll have to be patient with the employees. They know what they're doing and trust that your actual wedding day will be PERFECT, but leading up to it there were some miscommunications.

The cons should be considered but nothing that can't be overlooked. Our wedding was seriously SO perfect! Every single guest was in awe of the venue and left full, impressed, and happy.

Have your wedding here!!!

Went for the Mothers Day brunch yesterday. The food was absolutely horrible! We had a 2 pm reservation and at that time food needed to be replenished however it never occurred. My daughter ordered orange juice and it was completely watered down! At $3.50, I would expect better! Our server gave us poor service. We kept having to ask for our drinks after she had taken our drink order. Somehow they did not have decaf coffee? I can't understand how a restaurant doesn't have decaf coffee. The little food that was in the hot servers was dry and stuck to the bottom of the buffet servers! Since we had a party of 6 out server automatically got a 30% gratuity for doing a horrible job! She tended to our needs extremely poorly! WILL NEVER RETURN FOR ANY BRUNCH THERE! TERRIBLE!

Meyer's Castle is a beautiful setting, however, the venue can use some updating/repair (ladies bathroom, and the lighting in some areas). There was no soap in the ladies room.
The catering leaves a lot to be desired. For example, the salad was served at least an hour before the entrees and the water pitchers were never replaced/refilled unless you asked.

My Wife and I were married at Meyer's Castle and the experience was mediocre at best. Obviously the ambience is nice but as it relates to service and preparation, etc., they have a ways to go.

Our Reception was an awful experience for most of the visitors due to the Air Conditioning "not working" on a hot day. We could have complained for reimbursement for some amount afterwards but simply didn't bother.

Everyone was sweating and very uncomfortable - and I assume there was probably "nothing" wrong with the air at all; they were simply trying to cut cost and make more of a profit by not running the Air. I have no proof of this as this is simply my speculation.

Needless to say; I would not recommend Meyer's Castle to any Family or Friends for that particular type of event with so many more professionally managed options out there.

We had our wedding at Meyers Castle and it was absolutely amazing! Eva was our wedding coordinator and she really out did herself with communicating with us and making sure everything was perfect. She was so accommodating with everything we wanted and even made great suggestions for the reception. Eva would check on us multiple times throughout the night to make sure if we needed anything and kept telling me to not worry about anything she had it under control and she did. The venue was absolutely gorgeous and fit with our theme to a t. The grounds were really kept up nice. Overall great venue and wedding coordinator. I wouldn't have changed anything.

I had my wedding here a month ago and I would not recommend having it here. I had many complaints from my guests regarding the staff and they were not helpful in planning the event either. They have been ignoring my calls/emails since our wedding event.

This place is dirty and disgusting. The bathrooms had toilets that leaked and half the sinks don't work. It makes the whole place smell like poopy diapers. It looks pretty from the outside and photographs well, but is ran poorly. The staff works hard but management is a joke. They sit and watch as their staff struggles. If you are planning a party in the area just go to one of the country clubs in Munster instead.

We ordered coffee and first got cold yellow water. The host was wearing a sweatshirt at Mother's Day brunch. We were charged full price for our 7 year old. I was there in April 2019 DJ a wedding. I must say the coordinator was a great help and tried the best she can to make the event go smooth, however they have zero tolerance for loud music. I had to turn down all the base in the DJ equipment or else they would end the party. Im sure they didn't tell the Bride and Groom while they were planning the event.

So if you plan to have a DJ or Live band, this is not the place.

Went for Mother's Day brunch and was not impressed. All hot food on buffet was warm at best.
Ordered coffee and it came cold. Hash browns were burnt and cold. Bacon was not crispy and was sitting in greasy water at bottom of tray. Deserts were OK. They are very limited on their food selection.
They charged $30.50 per person plus they charge you $3.50 per glass of soda and $3.75 per glass of orange juice. No Free Refills!
The place is looking run down and for a table of 3 people, we paid $120.64 without tip.
You get much better food and all your drinks are included at the Patrician in Schererville, I would recommend going there instead.

My daughter is getting married at Meyer's Castle in May. Elizabeth was the first person we got in touch with and she was most helpful, responsive, willing to negotiate and very cordial. My daughter and her fiance visited the property and absolutely loved everything they saw. Carolyn is assigned to us to be our coordinator on the day of wedding but she has been super responsive and accommodating beyond that and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about her. We so much look forward to the wedding and I will post an update thereafter. Highly recommend the beautiful Meyer's Castle and their staff.

My sons wedding was at the castle. It was stunning! Beautiful fairy tale wedding! The food was also fantastic our guest continued to make comments that they could believe how good the food and desserts were. Before the wedding during the planning stages management was also a blessing to work with. They also assigned a awesome wedding Cordinator to us Eva. She was awesome she made it look easy and our guest attendance was 280! Thank you Meyers castle and Eva for a awesome wedding for my son and his wife!!

Visited this venue today for my wedding. I was so...

Visited this venue today for my wedding. I was so incredibly disappointed. The pictures of this venue look absolutely beautiful, but I came to find that it was all smoke and mirrors...a good photographer that took pictures at the perfect angle. This place was completely filthy and our appointment was at 2pm (plenty of time to clean before our arrival). The flooring and stairs were completely broken. The stairs are uneven...I actually hurt my knee going down them. The flooring on the inside is buckled and I felt like my foot was going to go through the floor boards when I walked. The tented area (where the wedding reception is actually held) was not secure...the top of the tarp felt like it would rip off if the winds were high enough. There are air conditioner units and ventilation systems that are not well hidden (very tacky). This place would be absolutely beautiful if they put about $40,000 into its maintenance...as it is...very run down...incredibly disappointing...the pictures were incredibly deceiving.
